Other Situation How I got my motel voucher step by step

Hello all, this is how I got a hotel voucher. Step by step. If you have any questions comment or pm I will try to help you

LONGTIME on and off homeless/vagabond here. Just a little bit about me, Im originally from the Midwest traveled most of the central and west united states and a few other countries years ago. Im a single male. Im in my 30s and im disabled and applying for disability

I kicked drugs and alcohol (im on subs and use medical mj but that's it) and I was just coming out of jail on probation with a huge number of years over my head with nowhere to go. So I went to treatment to give me

some stability (and as part of the plea agreement) 🄺

After rehab I rented an apartment with my families help long story short the landlord was a scammer. I lost everything I owned except my wallet and ID. So here I was on probation, addicted but sober, with nothing and starting over AGAIN... SO... I got on the phone and started calling...

I started calling churches. The first one I did told me they would talk to me that day. That same day they got me a week at a hotel. They ended up getting me one more week after that.

Those two weeks gave me enough time to keep googling and calling. Im on MAT meds for fentanyl addiction (suboxone) so I googled "Housing for people on MAT meds" and it told me about a program called the fresh start program and that they will pay 10,000$ worth of rent and give 1,500 furniture stipend.

I asked my probation officer about these programs and she told me she had never heard of them. So I called more places and more places until I realized the same place that prescribes me my medicine is in charge of this program.

It got really irritating and took me being pretty much annoying to the case workers. I kept calling and texting. Saying how badly I needed help and finally I got the number to the "right" caseworker after 5 days of trying. I explained to her I had been scammed before and that I was a felon and that Noone would rent to me.

I told her the hotel I was already at would be perfect because they have monthly rates and I dont have much besides clothes, a backpack, and my phone anyway. A couple of more days passed with me not giving up and continuing to call. Finally she agreed to meet the hotel owner with me. I made sure to always leave rooms nicer than I had found them. I kept to my own business and always never had anyone over to any room I was at and these hotel owners love low maintenance paying tenants.

It worked. We all three talked. All of a sudden the state is not only helping me recover with medicaid and my suboxone keeping me from fentanyl they've paid a year at this hotel.

This is only one of several programs in my area. Google AI is really good at finding some of these programs but you gotta call call call and call. Leave messages. Be persistent. Make sure they know exactly how much you need this.

Im sure bluer stages will have more programs to help than red states but im originally from a red state and they had some similar programs where im from. But they want to see you trying. If you get in a program and a free spot take care of it and dont have people over that are going to tarnish it and get you removed.

Happy travels and best regards fam

this is super embarrassing (especially as a kid coming to Reddit to try to find help for their mom) for a bit of context to my situation me and my mom currently live in a hotel room and have been for 2years since my dad died but it’s getting hard for her to pay for the hotel (she’s going to pay for two more days after that i don’t really know where we can go) so is there anything that could possibly help? she has a job and is trying to find a better paying one as I type this she’s getting ready for an interview but we also don’t have a car and take public transport so I don’t really know how’s she’ll get there at 5am everyday (Sorry if this doesn’t really make sense)not asking for money or anything just seeing if maybe there is anything that could help us at the moment (dm if there is any resources you know of Ty for taking time to read this<3)

Seeking Advice Only Got a Question

Should I just up and go somewhere I know I can't freeze to death in the winter without staying in a shelter? Even if I gotta walk or pay one way and be broke for a month straight panhandling..? :/ Here if I'm out on the street during the cold my survival is measured in minutes or hours.Somewhere else I wouldn't have to worry about where I sleep at night and sleeping at night is the biggest problem. I'm actually thinking about just greyhounding somewhere warm it's been a topic on my mind for a while. I can't freeze to death. I can panhandle if I need to until I get on my feet. It's not like wasilla or Sioux city, if I go to San Diego or somewhere. Id have to choose the perfect climate cuz in California I can't carry a knife that I need to carry and in Arizona it's too hot. Also here I have a thing with a woman and I don't want to leave her I want to be here anytime that she needs something and I actually love her and she knows that and I know that but if I have to choose to be homeless in Nebraska or Iowa it's just not reasonable. I can't stay with her. I'm asking you a direct question I'm not asking you for a workaround or something about get a job or something about being disabled or something about anything stupid like that I'm literally asking a direct question. It's a lot deeper than that and that's just like the overhanging question. Using my money to not freeze to death vs the other obvious factors food water. Oh I've moved to Alaska and then Iowa first so I know the cold side of it. :)

Eviction People that went homeless with their pets, How???

Going to be kicked out of my apartment in a few days and trying to figure out how you manage? I start a job soon and tried to rehome my cat but no one really was interested.

Besides one lady, offered to take her but she has two dogs. Both pits and im honestly scared to send her there because she’s never been around dogs and I think it’ll frighten her.

And if it doesnt work out she I wont be able to get her back as easily, since I dont have any form of transportation. I really dont want her to end up in a shelter.

So im wondering how some of yall managed to keep your pets while homeless.

What do I do for myself and the dogs?

Location: notasulga Alabama

I (19f) have been forced to take care of every animal my family has ever owned. Whether it be something as small as fish or something as big as sheep and pigs, I've had to take care of them all since I was very little. It was something I did almost instinctively because my family are the type to get a pet for the aesthetic appeal and not to actually take care of it. So they'd buy a pet, and let it slowly die until I started taking care of it. I've done it more times than I can count.

And unfortunately, this includes dogs. For the past couple years I've been taking care of all the family dogs (a Rottweiler, a basset hound, 2 grown poodles, and their three litters of puppies). One is supposed to be my mom's, the other is my younger brother's, and all the poodles are my dad's. Back towards the end of August me and my dad got into a huge fight, probably the biggest we've ever had. He was screaming at me that all I did was "sit on my ass" and complain about having to take care of the dogs and that I needed to get a job. But that's the thing, I've been trying to get a job every since my last boss ghosted me. He's literally watched me fill out job applications for months and then not even get a response to them. He himself has also complained about the job market and how difficult it is to keep a job, yet alone find one. So idk why he expects me to be an expectation to that. Along with not being able to find a job, neither of my parents even actually want me to get one. They're trying to pressure me and my younger brother to get a job so they can get out money, but they don't actually want the consequences of me getting a job. If I worked, I wouldn't be able to take care of the dogs, and they can't fathom that.

During that same argument, my dad also said he was going to stop paying me for the dogs but he's literally never given me a single penny for them. We had a whole agreement after I took care of the first set of poodle puppies that I would get some money for having been the sole person taking care of them. Then the same agreement was made for the second litter, and he's never paid me for either. My mom gave me some of the money for the first litter, and it wasn't even the amount agreed to. My dad just spends all his time complaining about not wanting to give me the money I'm owed. And now I'm on the third litter of puppies because he never got of his ass and neutered the dogs like he claimed he was going to, and I doubt I'll be paid for this either.

After the argument though, I told my mom the next day that I wasn't gonna take care of the dogs anymore if he was gonna be disrespectful to me about it. And that included her dog and my brother's dog. She said ok and that she'd work on getting them sold, but now it's October and they're still not gone. She claimed she was gonna feed them herself, but they're going multiple days at a time without food. Often without water as well. She lies and says she feeds them everyday, but she never goes outside to feed them, and my brother sure as hell won't take care of his dog. Don't get me wrong, when I took care of them they definitely weren't super meaty, but now that my mom is supposedly feeding them, they literally look pitiful. You can almost see their bones and it's even worse towards their back legs. They're skinny as hell. I use to feed them dog food and dinner scraps everyday and now they're only getting fed dinner scraps every couple of days. One pan of scraps had to be split between them and it hardly lasts them a day. So they're starving by the time they get fed again. I feel horrible and I don't know what to do. I wasn't gonna keep taking care of the dogs inside the house, my dad's adult and puppy poodles, but then he went on a month long trip right after the argument we had. He claimed it was for work, but never got a damn paycheck for it. And because no one would take care of them or help the dog when she had her third litter, I started doing it again. I'm cleaning up puppy pads everyday and feeding them and if I don't, the house becomes a dump and the blame gets put on me again. I don't know what to do and I need advice. I've been told to call the police and that they can do a check on the dogs, but we've had to call the cops for domestic violence problems before and they literally just stand there and don't do anything. There's maybe two animal shelters near me, but I can't drive to them to surrender the dogs, and every time I've tried to call them they say they don't take dogs from my area, despite me being in their damn area for services. I keep having to take care of these mutts and I'm losing my mind. But if I try to sell them or anything, I know my parents will kick me out. They don't technically have to take care of me anymore. I've been trying to work up a plan but living here in the buck-fuck middle of nowhere notasulga Alabama, I can't go far. My parents won't let me have a car or get a license. They keep me locked in this house. I don't have any friends now that school is over, none of them live near me anymore. I have some family upstate but it's little to no guarantee that I'll be able to move up there, so I just don't know what to do. I can't stay here, because it's unsafe and exhausting. But I can't easily leave either since I've got no job, no car, and no family or friends to easily run away too. What do I do?

Other Situation We're screwed

My husband and I ran out of options so my husband has been working 9-5pm 7 days a week for the motel we're staying at in exchange for rent. I can't work since my motorcycle wreck in April. We've been eating out of dumpsters and going to food pantries. We have 2 dogs. We moved here (lake Jackson) from Houston to have a place to stay. My husband is a very hard worker and has really been working hard for the owner. There's no time for him to go look for side work.

The owners have been giving him a hard time since day 1 and we've been here for about a month. He doesn't get proper breaks or lunch and nothing in the room works. Our toilet doesn't flush, there's no bathroom sink, and we only have one light and 1 working outlet.

A few hours ago the owner told us to start packing because my husband took a lunch break at 3pm. He was only inside long enough to eat a sandwich.

We are now stuck out with our 2 dogs in a town where we know nobody, our car is so packed we can't even sleep in it. My husband has plenty of work in Houston, we just need to get there.

Right now we didn't even have enough gas to leave the parking lot. Neither of us have any family to ask for help.

Seeking Advice Only How do I get out of this situation? I've been trying so hard and nothing has been working

F20,this is going to be a long read so I apologize, I'm not gonna get fully into details because it's too much to list off but I've had a really messed up and traumatic life, I was also made homeless as a teenager by really shitty parents and never finished school, lost my emotional support animal and my best friend, moved from state to state by myself, having no real family or friends, desperately trying to find my home, never had a job in my life, also have diagnosed autism, anxiety, PTSD and depression, I'm currently living out of a hotel with a friend, this guy is a compelete bum and I don't really feel completely safe here and he's just so unselfware, like he's cool sometimes but like he doesn't have his priorities straight at all and is draining my money, I have nowhere else to go though and don't wanna stay at a shelter again, I keep messing up interviews because of my lack of experience and bed memory and just overal being bad with questions on the spot, even if I prepare for them I fuck them up, I haven't been able to come up with or scueed with any good side hustles, tried desperately to sell what little belongings I own but nobody buys anything, I don't want this to be my life, I'm tired of relying on people, I'm tired of hanging around people who do nothing but drink and do hardcore drugs all day, I'm tired of doing drugs too, I'm tired of living like this, I've been trying my hardest to get out of this situation, he hasn't been doing anything, but continues to use words like "we" like "omg we need to lock in" or something but like no dude YOU need to lock in, I've been trying, people out here can't drive either and I almost got hit like 10 times and yesterday I did actually get hit by a truck and she dipped right after, completely destroyed my electric scooter and made me spill my groceries and made them uneatable, I don't have the money to fix this shit or get more food, everything is like an hour or two walk away, my bodies in so much pain, I have horrible social skills, Im tired of not eating, there's no good programs over here, I feel like the only escape for me is death, maybe that will be at least a little more nice to me than this life, I'm tired of struggling, I'm tired of people not seeing all the work I put in, I'm tired of being misunderstood and looked down upon, I just feel so helpless, why did I have to be born into such a shitty family, why did I have to be put through all of this, I just want it to be over

These past 4 years have been brutal for me. Single mom of 3 waiting on disability to come through after 4 failed back surgeries over these last 2 years resulting in staph infection in my spine. I cannot lose my home. I am behind in my mortgage by 2 months. That’s $3,250 that I cannot find under any of my couch cushions. I need support in accomplishing this task so that one day I can pay it forward.

Seeking Advice Only 20-year-old father homeless with my son in DFW — eviction on my record. Where do I start?

I’m 20 years old and currently jumping from hotel to hotel with my son. I’m trying to get us into stable housing, but I have an eviction from last year and still owe money to my previous landlord. My credit is also in the 500s, so I’m worried about getting denied everywhere I apply.
I’m trying to figure out the fastest realistic way to get us into a place of our own. I don’t have the luxury of spending months applying to apartments that are just going to reject me, and hotel costs are making it harder to save money.
I’m located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area of Texas. I’m willing to consider private landlords, smaller apartment communities, income-based housing, shared housing if it’s safe and appropriate for my son, or any legitimate program that could help us get stable.
I’m also trying to find steady employment that pays enough to support us while working around my son’s childcare schedule.
I’m not looking for a handout or expecting someone to solve everything for me. I want to work, provide for my son, and get us back on our feet. I just need to figure out the best place to start.
For anyone who has experienced homelessness with a child or had to find housing after an eviction:
What did you do first?
Did any organizations actually help you find housing quickly?
Were you able to rent from a private landlord with an eviction on your record?
Are there programs in DFW that help parents with children who are staying in hotels?
What would you do in my position over the next 7–30 days?
I would really appreciate any practical advice, resources, or experiences you can share.

Hi, I’m between jobs and struggling to cover essentials, rent, food, and prescriptions... If anyone knows short-term help or resources nearby (south Florida area), I’d really appreciate it. Also if anyone knows good places for help with cat food/litter etc. it would be greatly appreciated!!

Squatting

I’m disabled, on oxygen 24/7 and my ssdi does not cover my meds, food and living. My local social service case worker purposely cut off my Medicaid 6 months ago. No meds or way to get to the doctor. It has taken all I have and my son has to keep us going to this point. He is a single father of 4 to boot!
Just found out I won my Medicaid appeal but they have 30 days to request more docs from me to ā€œrestartā€ my Medicaid and another 30 days after that to process what I send to them. My medicare starts December 1. Honestly, I feel the city of Virginia Beach is just hoping I die before my Medicare can kick in. We are now squatting in my dead step father’s hoarder house (he died a few months back). No electricity or water. I have a cat. I can’t even get to social services office to ask for a supervisor. I won’t give up.. I’m not that person.. but, damn… Long term covid shredded my lungs. I’m in my early 50’s and feel like I’m a burden to everyone and just praying I don’t die on them. Please send prayers. Send encouragement… I feel like reality is gone and I have completely gone cuckoo for coco puffs!

Please help me i need as much resources as I can get and some sort of guidance of what to do. I have 2 months here, as I am living with my uncle. I would prefer to live in this state if I can. I originally live in southern California. All I have on me right now is my California ID and my social security card. I dont have my new debit card yet.

It might be important to note that I suffer from severe mental illnesses and originally a foster youth.

I only have 3 months to find a solution, advice?

Hi everyone. I’m 18F, currently living in Switzerland, and I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore.
I lost my mother to cancer, and my father, who struggles with alcoholism and has been abusive, kicked me out shortly after I turned 18. I lost the only home I knew, and ever since, I’ve been trying to figure out how to survive on my own.
I’m currently staying with my boyfriend’s family, but it’s not a permanent solution, and I’m terrified of ending up homeless. (My boyfriend is leaving in 3 months for military and his parents want me to move out till then. That will be January)
I’ve been desperately looking for a job, but nothing worked. Also i have no car or license so yeah..
I just want a chance to get back on my feet, find a stable job, and have somewhere safe to call home.

Does anyone have advice on what I can do? Are there organizations, emergency housing programs, or other resources that could help someone in my situation in Switzerland?
Any advice, personal experiences, or guidance would genuinely mean a lot. Thank you for reading. ā¤ļø
