Troubleshooting PC crashes and sometimes wont turn on or gets stuck in a bootloop, then it works for some hours and crashes again.

• Upvotes

Essentially it all started 2 days after an immediate power outage that lasted 1s.

Afterwards PC was working fine for 2 days and then suddenly it crashed (as if the plug was pulled) and it would not boot. Power was completely unresponsive.

After a while it booted, however, it always crashed after a while and boots into bios screen with BIOS settings reset and the clock being a couple of minutes behind.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

Got new PSU, same crashing.

Closed XMP.

Re-assembled the entire PC.

Left the PC running with onboard graphics to rule out GPU, still crashed.

Tried each RAM stick on A2, still crashed

Disconnected RGB controller and moved everything to MOBO still crashed

New CMOS battery still crashed.

Tested the device at another house and it ran for 24h without crashing.

Tested the power at my house with a polymeter, it seems fine.

Removed all fans besides CPU fan.

Removed all peripherals and cables while testing.

Tested on a different monitor.

Tested in a different room with a completely different power outlet.

Tested with different cables.

Ran CPU diagnostics all passed.

Ran RAM diagnostics all passed.

The device seems just not to care or it is haunted at this point.

I am either suspecting CPU degradation from the 14th Gen incident or Mobo power management got fried and is failing.

Build Ready? first time getting/building a PC

• Upvotes

From the title you know I possess no knowledge about building a compute, and yet here I‘m trying to get one in one of the most expensive years

Basically, I attempted to finish choosing components on pcpartpicker and realized how hard it is to check the clearance or compatibility. The list is basically finalized but I do think it is somewhat overpriced, especially when I was expecting something around $3000.

Here’s the link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MQvVfp

Not sure if the Lancool 216 works with Corsair shift but I choose them because they seem to tidy up the cables a bit and cables would be side-shifted. Has anyone used both? How did they work out?

Honestly, my biggest concern right now is how I purchase the part. I’m not sure about buying these off Amazon, and I don’t seem to know any local sellers or suppliers. I don’t know anything I’m missing too like thermal paste or Ethernet cables etc etc. What do yall think? Is there anymore I should be aware of?
Any opinions or insights are welcomed, I am still in the process of finding YouTube videos on literally how to build a PC… Thanks.

Troubleshooting ACER Nitro n50-600 PSU troubles

• Upvotes

My PSU caught fire so I ordered this PSU to replace it. https://www.newegg.ca/asrock-pro-series-atx-3-1-compatible-650-w-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply-black-pro-650g/p/N82E16817955024?item=N82E16817955024

I can't get the PSU to function. A friend of mine seems to think it is missing a specific cord or connection.

Does anyone have any insights on this?

Troubleshooting PC won't get past mobo logo.

• Upvotes

While playing Enshrouded i suddenly started experiencing something that looked like high ping. My character would rubberband.

I wanted to run cmd and ping to check if it's my internet but Start menu wouldn't show up. Task manager wouldn't show up. Start eventually showed up, tried launching event viewer but it just wouldn't launch. The computer was overall extremely slow. I hard reset the pc.

After reboot i tried to open event viewer immediately but no luck. I managed to download windows media creation tool and launch it. Pc bsod'd somewhere at the end of preparing the usb drive.

I got the usb ready on a laptop. But now pc simply will not boot into it. Won't even boot into windows. It just gets stuck at mobo logo, without the loading circle.

I can get into bios without issue.

I unplugged all drives one by one, unplugged and swapped both ram sticks, tried disabling xmp and resetting bios.

What else can i check?

Build Upgrade SSD question

• Upvotes

I just built my first pc a few months ago and its been awesome! My question is around adding another nvme to my build. I was able to buy a 1TB ssd, the one I got is KLEVV Cras C925G 1TB 3D TLC NAND PCle Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Drive. I recently was gifted a used Samsung PM981 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD pcie gen 3 and I was wondering if I would be able to use it as extra game storage for my build. Ive already cleaned it, and prepped it to plug and play with my laptop that showed it was "healthy." Let me know what you think!

Build Ready? First time PC buyer, how is this build from microcenter?

• Upvotes

https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=2800b21b-140e-4eb0-9636-d5a49d0c0914

I've been off gaming on my PS5 and, funnily enough, using my MacBook Pro for gaming much more often.

Here is a setup I got going for me; it will basically replace the PS5 (couch gaming).

The goal was, of course, improving my gaming performance-wise, while still keeping budget in mind.

I will also be downgrading my laptop and running a remote development setup with this build, but first I just wanted a solid rig to play on my TV.

I am aware, too, that this is probably the worst time to buy a PC, but I don't know if it will get better soon. My main reason to leave is for more buying opportunities, a performance boost, and access to more games.

**I am aware this build is missing an OS and a case.

For the OS, I was going to give Linux a try; I have done it in the past for development, dabbled a bit in gaming, but the laptop was crummy, so I didn't do much.

For the case, I am going to ask and browse the options there in person. It will be a smaller HTPC case I am going for. It will live in an open front-and-back media console; not too worried about airflow, space is the limiter. 15" deep, 22" wide, and 13" tall cube area.

Build Help Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro case

• Upvotes

Hi!
I recently bought a pc, i got a 9800x3d, 9070xt, 32gb DDR5, 2tb nvme, a gigabyte b850 eagle wifi7 ice motherboard, and an 850W power supply. The biggest issue was the cooling and case. I got an arctic liquid freezer 3 pro, and the krux exo rgb case. The issue is i can’t fit the AIO inside the case, me and my friend tried multiple ways, it’s just impossible despite the shop assuring me it won’t be a problem. I can return the case, but obviously i need a new one. I did a little bit of research and supposedly Montech King 15 pro should fix my issue. I really want the fish tank style case, that will fit those specs without an issue. I also don’t want to pay a lot for it.

TLDR: I need a budget friendly fish tank case that will fit Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 Pro with a Gigabyte B850 Eagle WiFi7 Ice case.

Thanks!!!

Build Upgrade Struggling which gpu i want to buy for gaming and ai-related work

• Upvotes

I’m a student studying AI, so I need a GPU with a decent amount of VRAM that allows me to train small to medium-sized machine learning and deep learning models. I also enjoy gaming, so I’d like to run AAA games at decent settings, although I don’t need everything set to ultra.

I’m planning to buy either a 1440p or 1080p 240Hz monitor. My maximum budget is €900, and I’m from the Netherlands. So far, I’ve been looking at the RTX 5060 ti 16GB and the AMD RX 9060 XT or RX 9070 XT. However, I’ve heard that AMD GPUs may not be compatible with as many Python libraries and AI tools as NVIDIA GPUs.

My system now consists of:
- amd ryzen 7 5700g
- 32gb ddr4 ram 3600 mhz/s
- 1000 watt gold psu
- asus rog strix b550 wifi 2

Build Help Need build advice (€1500 limit, France): AM4 / AM5 / LGA 1700 ?

• Upvotes

I'm trying to get a PC with a strict €1500–€1550 budget (buying from France/EU).

I got gifted a 1440p OLED 360Hz monitor. Right now I'm playing on a laptop (i7-12700H / RTX 4060) which is fine for Valorant, but I want a desktop that can actually drive AAA games at 1440p.

Here’s my current PCPartPicker draft (~€1583 total):

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F (€140)
  • Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin (€44)
  • MB: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX (€127)
  • RAM: Patriot Viper 16GB (1x16GB) DDR5-6000 (€291)
  • SSD: Silicon Power 1TB NVMe (€155)
  • GPU: XFX RX 9060 XT 16GB (€630)
  • Case: Corsair 4000D RS (€98)
  • PSU: MSI 750W Gold (€98)

With current RAM & SSD prices taking up almost €460 for just 1x16GB and 1TB, it severely chokes the GPU budget. I can barely fit a 9060 XT and I'm already over budget.

I see a few options:

  1. German Prebuilts (Memory PC ): Since they get bulk deals on RAM/storage, is a prebuilt the best way to get a better GPU (like a 9070 GRE/9070) for €1500?
  2. Go AM4 / Intel DDR4: Drop down to something like a 5600X or 14400F with DDR4 to free up money for the GPU?

I'm open for some ideas/deals, thanks

Peripherals Looking for a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED monitor for PS5 and PC gaming

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first OLED gaming monitor and would appreciate some recommendations.

I'm mainly buying it for my PC but I also have a PS5 I plan on using for GTA6 and I want it to look as good as possible. I'm leaning towards a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED and want to make sure I get one that works properly with the PS5.

My PC specs are:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
  • GPU: Radeon RX 6750 XT

What I'm looking for:

  • 27-inch, 1440p QD-OLED panel
  • Proper PS5 compatibility
  • HDMI 2.1, ideally with HDMI VRR support
  • Good HDR and colours for single-player games
  • Good value for money

I'm not too bothered about getting 360Hz or higher since I dont play many competitive games that id get anywhere near those frames anyway.

Which monitors would you recommend, and are there any models I should avoid? Also, is HDMI 2.1 essential for what I'm looking for, or would a good HDMI 2.0 monitor be enough? Also do display ports even matter for PC?

Thanks!

Build Ready? weird situation with my PC

• Upvotes

I had a Core i5 12600kf, but I accidentally dropped it and it broke. I bought a Core i5 14600kf, updated my BIOS, and everything was fine. The problem arises when I turn it off and then try to turn it back on. I turn on the PC, and the VGA light is on, but when I turn it off and on again, it boots up normally. When I try to restart it, the VGA light stays on, but if I turn it off, it boots up and starts up normally.

Build Help First Time PC Build, €1.5k budget (Spain)

• Upvotes

Hi all! I am diving in the world of pc building. I want to build something that allows me to play current games (e.g. Control resonant) at least at 1440p and 60fps on high, but at the same be good enough for 1440p for the years to come. It is impossible to know future game requirements and the next gen consoles power but would be nice to be able to keep gaming at 1440p and hight as much as possible.

Would you say that this could be enough? The price is about €1.4k

Ryzen 5 8400F

ASUS Prime A620AM-K

Gigabyte P650SS 650W

Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB

24GB DDR5 6000MHz CL28

SSD NVMe 1 TB PCle 4.0

Also, don't know if I should go for W11 or steam OS for better experience and driver compatibility.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion GPU recommendations for an i7-14700 build used for gaming and IT learning

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm getting a second-hand PC from a friend who works as a programmer. The computer originally came from his company, which is shutting down, and it's approximately two years old.

My goal is to use it for learning IT skills, experimenting with Linux and virtual machines, and playing games such as CS2 and World of Warcraft.

These are the main specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i7-14700

RAM: 64 (CL46) GB DDR5 5600 MHz

SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 1 TB NVMe

Motherboard: Gigabyte B760M DS3H (LGA1700)

I'll need to check the exact models of the power supply and CPU cooler.

I'm currently trying to decide which graphics card would make the most sense for this system.

A few questions:

Which GPU would you recommend for CS2 and WoW? I'm looking for good value for money and would consider both AMD and NVIDIA cards, including used options.

How much should I prioritize VRAM? Would 8 GB be enough, or would it make more sense to look for a 12 GB or 16 GB card?

Does DDR5-5600 RAM have any meaningful impact on gaming performance? I'll check the exact timings and CL rating, but I'm curious how much they matter in practice.

Are there any compatibility or hardware issues I should be aware of? In particular, I'm wondering about the motherboard, power supply requirements, CPU cooling, and the power consumption of the i7-14700.

I'll be using the PC for both gaming and practical IT learning, so I'd appreciate recommendations that balance gaming performance, reliability, and value.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Peripherals Can I use this cord with my UPS?

• Upvotes

Hello all,

I recently ordered these from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9LPFDB

I do not have any room on the back of my UPS to plug my new cable modem into. It uses a larger brick-style power block than my previous one did.

The issue is that I have no room/space left on the battery backup side and am forced to use the modems power brick on the left side — which is just the surge protection. I am wondering if I can use one of these little “extension" plugs to give myself some space on the battery backup side and plug my modem into that.

Thanks in advance!

Miscellaneous Designing a custom dual-chamber NAS + AI workstation case from scratch — looking for advice from people who have built their own cases

Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on a project called Tower Cube — a completely custom PC case designed to combine a high-capacity NAS, an AI workstation, and a powerful multi-GPU system in a single enclosure.

>>Tower Cube<<

I've spent quite some time looking at existing cases, including the Jonsbo N5 and various server/workstation chassis, but none of them really meets all my requirements.

So I decided to explore designing my own case from scratch.

I'm now at the stage where I have a preliminary layout and I'm looking for feedback from people who have experience designing, fabricating, or modifying custom PC enclosures.

The overall concept

The case consists of two separate horizontal compartments stacked on top of each other, mechanically connected but with independent airflow.

Lower compartment — NAS/storage:

  • 12 × 3.5" HDDs in the initial configuration
  • Three removable HDD cages, each holding four drives
  • Preparation for an optional second row of 12 HDDs (24 total)
  • Dedicated, airflow-isolated PSU compartment
  • 3 × 180 mm front intake fans
  • 3 × 180 mm rear exhaust fans
  • Optional middle fan bank if the second HDD row is installed
  • No hot-swap backplanes — standard SATA data and power connections

One of the main design goals is HDD serviceability.

I'm considering making the entire front and rear fan assemblies removable, allowing access to the HDD cages from either side without having to disassemble the upper compartment.

The HDDs would be mounted with vibration isolation and approximately 45 mm center-to-center spacing, leaving around 19 mm between drive bodies before accounting for mounting hardware.

Upper compartment — workstation / AI:

Current hardware includes:

  • ASUS Pro WS Z890-ACE SE motherboard
  • Intel Core Ultra 9 285 CPU
  • 128 GB DDR5 RAM
  • Intel Arc Pro B70 GPU
  • Broadcom / LSI 9500-16i HBA
  • 3 × M.2 NVMe SSDs
  • be quiet! Dark Power 14 1200 W PSU in the lower compartment

For CPU cooling, I'm considering either a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 or an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 420 AIO.

The long-term goal is to support couple high-power GPUs, potentially RTX 5090-class or RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell-class cards, plus the HBA. I know this will require revisiting the PSU capacity, PCIe card placement, and cooling.

Cooling concept

My priority is a quiet 24/7 system with enough cooling capacity for heavy workloads.

After comparing 140 mm, 180 mm, and 200 mm fans, I've decided to design around Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-18 PWM 180 mm fans.

The idea is to run them at low RPM during normal operation and automatically increase speeds based on HDD, CPU, GPU, and internal air temperatures.

The upper compartment currently has:

  • 3 × 180 mm front intake
  • 2 × 180 mm side intake
  • 1 × 180 mm rear exhaust
  • A separate side-mounted 420 mm AIO radiator with its own fans, or alternative case fans if air cooling is used

The compartments would be separated by a solid panel, with protected cable pass-throughs to prevent unwanted airflow between them.

Mechanical design

The preliminary footprint is roughly 730 × 540 mm (29 × 21 inches), although dimensions are still being refined.

I'm considering either:

  1. An aluminum extrusion frame with custom sheet-metal panels.
  2. A fully custom sheet-metal chassis with folded structural reinforcements.

Other planned features include:

  • Removable side panels
  • Modular, replaceable fan assemblies
  • Removable four-drive cages
  • Solid metal feet approximately 100 mm high, with rubber vibration-isolation pads
  • Separate cable routing for HDDs, PSU, fans, and motherboard
  • Enough room for future hardware upgrades

I'm also looking into professional fabrication companies that could help with CAD design, mechanical engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing a one-off enclosure.

What I'd really appreciate feedback on

Can anyone recommend a company in Europe that can design and manufacture a one-off custom PC chassis?

I'm based in the Czech Republic, so European manufacturers would be ideal.

I've attached the preliminary top-down layouts of both compartments. These are still conceptual drawings, not final production-ready CAD models.

I'm very open to suggestions, especially from people who have already gone through the process of building a custom enclosure.

My goal isn't simply to build a huge PC case — it's to create a quiet, modular, maintainable NAS and AI workstation that I can keep upgrading for years.

Thanks in advance for any advice, experience, criticism, or recommendations!

Troubleshooting Help, my headphone jack doesn't make sound

I use a 3,5mm headphone jack to the front panel jack on my pc. Recently, I decided to use the Bluetooth version on my headset so I could lie in my bed and watch videos. This sadly made the audio 300ms late. When i tried to use the headphone jack again, nothing worked. I used the green one on the back; I checked the physical jack and the connection to the motherboard. I've done some of the Win + R things like mmsys.cpl, services.msc, and msinfo32. I downloaded the drivers for my motherboard. I honestly have no clue what to do. If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate any help.
