News / Meta Important Update for 21XX Keyboards Purchased Through KeyGem

We have fully received and QC'd the 21XX Keyboards and addons originally meant for KeyGem. Here is what we are offering for KeyGem buyers, and what we need from them to get them their order.

KeyGem buyers qualify for the following

  • Their full order at original GB pricing (USD)
  • A $200 discount per 21XX Keyboard ordered

KeyGem buyers need to provide us with the following via screenshot/PDF by emailing us at [support@cannonkeys.com](mailto:support@cannonkeys.com)

  • Name and shipping address (we will allow address changes if you have moved, just let us know)
  • KeyGem order number
  • Order date
  • Order contents
  • Email (This must match the email you contact us with)

The keyboards and addons are ready, so once we get everything we need and make the custom discounted orders, they should be shipped out relatively quick. Within a few business days. We also want to extend a huge thank you to the designer of the 21XX, Pontus, who is giving up their design cut on the units purchased by KeyGem during this period to help us offer this discount.

Here is some additional information

  • We will hold off selling any extras to the public for at least a week. If a KeyGem buyer contacts us after this period, we will do our best to get them their order, but we might need to swap the specs of the keyboard or offer different addons. The discount will still be applied
  • If you have an issue with your order, you will be treated the exact same as if your original order was made on CannonKeys.com. This includes support should you have questions about your order/keyboard, or run into any issues.
  • KeyGem buyers can remove items from their order, but cannot add items. For example, if the original order had an addon aluminum plate, the plate can be removed from the order but not swapped for a carbon fiber plate. We only have a limited amount of items so this is necessary.
  • If a customer orders a 21XX Keyboard directly from our website and later requests the $200 refund, we will evaluate the request on a case-by-case basis.
  • We offer delivery duty paid (DDP) shipping to most EU countries, and this discount will hopefully help bridge the price gap between international and domestic shipping.

Thanks for sticking with us,

The CannonKeys Team

We are posting this to reddit as we do not have the emails of those who joined 21XX with KeyGem. This is our best option to try and let those who joined know about the situation.

Builds Big blurp 🫐

Atelier Rien Syrin TKL with GMK CYL Blurple, SW Ham switches, and Knight v4 stabilizers. I built it with the matching bluish purple aluminum plate, a hotswap PCB, the purple gasket mount, and the included plate and case foam.

This is an elegant board, inspired by graceful reeds, and CYL Blurple is a perfect fit for the bluish purple case. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful internal engraving on the weight, and I love how the weight is placed towards the front of the board, resulting in a 50:50 weight ratio for the upper and lower parts of the keyboard.

I also really appreciate that there are multiple options for mounting styles (two diff of gaskets— black and purple— and two top mount options — “soft” and “hard”). And although I usually don’t build with foam, I don’t hate it here at all — this setup is still crackly and bright, and it doesn’t have the subdued sound profile I would’ve expected from foam.

All in all, a beautiful board with lots of customizability and a truly beautiful anodized finish 🫐

Builds Athena75, my first custom board

Hi all, finally got to around to build my first custom keyboard :)

Coming from Ducky Mecha that I've been using for the past 5 years I decided to go with Athena75. At first I was hesitating between it and Neo75, especially since literally almost all of the reviews/soundtests that I could find were with FR4/CF plates, which are very clacky. But the looks and the gimmicks really made it stand out to me, so I rolled with it and don't regret whatsoever.

My only problem with this board - the plastic dust cover somehow doesn't fit it? Like it is a little smaller than the case, very odd.

https://youtu.be/RXKrYbPAEYg - Soundtest

Config:

HMX dirty pink + HMX Bad Sweetheart for long keys + KG Y2 for the spacebar
PC plate
All foams/pads etc.
Knight V4 stabs
Keychron Camel keycaps

The Shrimp Pinkey. It comes with a wrist rest. I think it got discounted because it seems like the company does not produce these anymore. The website is at least not updated. I just thought it was cute and colors fitted my setup.
Really wish it was a bit longer so I could play CS on it without messing with settings.

I feel like this deserves another post after fixing the horrendous layout issue I had due to the lack of stabs available ( missing 7u wire ).

Definitely an underused or underrated set imho the gmk bkre is absolutely fun and quirky in its own way.

Build:

Gmk bkre Hmx yogurt s Knight v4 stab + maiz ( v4 for the sb and maiz for the shift / enter ) Pom plate

I've been on a bit of a green kick lately but I thought I'd shift over to blue for a bit just to give it a shot on here.

The Preonic custom walnut case from FNCTL CO is definitely a must have for any of you Preonic users looking for some good looking chonk on your desk. It was a blast working with him on this thing! I've still got many more keycap combos to keep trying with it (MTNU Skyriter anyone?).

Keycaps: MT3 Fairlane

Switches: Cherry MX2A Nixies

Case: Custom chonk of walnut

Keyboards with southpaw support are pretty rare!

I'm right-handed, but I actually find it more comfortable to have the numpad on the left when using my mouse.

The Luminkey98 V2 is pretty cool since you can switch the numpad between the left and right sides while keeping the 98-key layout. Such a neat feature!

The design is really clean too. I especially love the machining marks on the weight. They look so good!

Obsessed with how this came out!

- Weikav Nut65
- Zealios v2 78g
- GMK CYL Windbreaker

Types like a dream! I may have been a bit enthusiastic with the 78g, fingers get tired but the weight and bump is unmatched. The photo doesn’t do the colors justice, and my coworkers can hear me typing from a mile away (they describe it as “meditative legos”)

been using the black gmmk pro (brass plate, filmed lubed spring switched jwk quartz ,tempest and tape modded ) or at least 5 years now or so.and ive decided to replace the pcb since there are rgbs that are always on already.but functionality wise its still a solid board.i found a used barebones with an alu plate and rk linears for a aolid price and was able to snag and transplant the board to the one im using (i dont use rgb.) and i decided to build the 2nd board out for my so since the board is fine and the rgb she uses.the donor kb was scratched up so i decided to have it powdercoated in a rose gold color and it turned out great! will now decide on a cap set for this (maybe white or something) and give it to her when she comes back to my city

Builds My first mechanical keyboard, bought with my own money: URX Core 75

Post image
9 Upvotes

Got my URX Core 75 today and I’m still grinning like an idiot.

Until now I was typing on the built-in keyboard of an old Dell laptop, so this is a massive jump for me. It’s the first keyboard I’ve ever bought with my own money, and I was a bit nervous about whether it would be worth it. It is. The build feels premium, the sound is really satisfying, and I’ve been typing random stuff in Notepad for an hour just to hear it 😅

Build details:

  • Keyboard: URX Core 75 (75% layout with a knob)
  • Switches: Stock switches that came with the board (not sure of the exact model yet, will update when I find out)
  • Keycaps: Stock black set with red legends
  • Lighting: Stock RGB
  • Mods: None yet, completely stock
  • Firmware/customization: Nothing yet, still learning

Nothing fancy, just a stock board, but it means a lot to me as my first one. Planning to explore the hobby slowly from here.

Thanks for reading!

Builds Keychron Q1 V2: Stock caps vs. Womier shine-through Cherry caps

Post image
3 Upvotes

Before and after swapping the stock keycaps on my Keychron Q1 V2 for shine-through cherry profile Womier keycaps I nabbed from aliexpress for 17 bucks

I wanted something that would let the backlighting shine through the keys while giving the board a lower-profile feel. This keyboard is stock, comes complete, but man those stock caps are tall.

These caps feel much better than the stock caps, but since the leds are on the bottom of the switches, they don't shine through at all. However, while I'm not in love with this keyboard, it's way better than the super low profile mac one that preceded it.

What do you think of the change?

Weighs 5KG, took me over two hours to assemble, and sounds amazing. The buckling springs feel and sound perfect. The end game of heavy clicky keyboards. I have an original IBM Model F XT from 1983 but this modernised version is sooo nice. Modelfkeyboards.com if you want one.
