How do I turn off the fan on my Lenovo Ideapad?

For reference, I'm specifically using a Lenovo Ideapad 5 and no matter where I check in my settings, I can't find anything regarding turning the fan off. I want to get more into voice acting by next year, but I don't want my fan causing interference with my recordings, so any help at all would be appreciated

Just got a forced bios update while in a meeting. I guess Lenovo does not care about work times. Sadly other people do 😂

Keyboard Backlight not working on Lenovo 14 Chromebook Plus 16gb

Just upgraded my chromebook to a Lenovo 14M9610 14in MediaTek 16GB 256GB. Nice piece of kit.

Got my accounts set up, wallpapers etc - now realised the keyboard backlight doesn't work. Have used the backlight button on the F8 key and also the Alt+F6/F7 (keyboard brightness) keys which work fine on my old Chromebook.

Bit annoyed to say the least. Anyone else had this? Anything else I can check before i box it back up and return it?

This is the one I bought - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8566742.

Lenovo USB-C Businiess Dock (and many other docks) doesn't charge my Laptop with 100W

• Upvotes

Hey folks,

by now, I'm somewhat frustrated with my Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14APH8 (Gen 8). I just want to use Ethernet, HDMI at 4K 60 Hz, and one USB-A port through a single USB-C cable while charging. Data connectivity is easy, but charging is a whole different story.

First of all, I understand that a USB hub/dongle also needs power. So, with a 100 W power supply, around 85 W should be left for the laptop. That should be plenty, but the laptop enters a weird state where the CPU only uses 15 W under a stress test. Unplug the hub, and the CPU immediately uses almost 50 W with the Ryzen 7 7840HS.

I then spent over a month talking to Lenovo Support, but the only answer I got was, "Please check the compatibility matrix and use something listed there."

So, I bought the USB-C Universal Business Dock, which is listed as fully compatible. But even with the 135 W charger, I still can't get more than 15 W of CPU power while charging through the dock.

The firmware is up to date, and I even ordered a brand-new Lenovo cable, but nothing works.

Any help?

Thanks in advance

Issue getting through to Lenovo support

• Upvotes

My university gave me a grant to buy a laptop with, and I have to provide them with an invoice showing that I have paid.

I've been trying to get through to customer support for this for a few days but humans on the phone either provide me with the standard "unpaid" invoice that you can already get from the orders page, or they don't understand the question.

The "Leo" chat bot says that customer support can help me with this issue and generate a paid invoice, but I can't initiate conversations on the websites built in live chat because of my order starting with "K", and not being recognized as a real order because of it, which seems to be something mentioned on this subreddit a few times by others.

Any advice? I'd rather not have to return this one and go somewhere else. I'm loving the French Canadian keyboard on it for my schooling.

Lenovo says my motherboard is dead, but my laptop can still charge my phone from its battery. Could it be repaired?

Hey everyone,

I have a Lenovo Legion Y540 with an Intel i5 9th gen and GTX 1650. It's around 6 years old, and recently it stopped turning on completely.

I took it to an authorised Lenovo service centre first. They told me the motherboard was dead and needed to be replaced, which would cost around ₹25–30k. They also said that manufacturing of this motherboard has been discontinued.

After that, I took it to a local repair shop. Initially, they said the motherboard was mostly fine and suspected a faulty IC. They quoted around ₹7,800 for the repair.

They spent 3–4 days trying to fix it, but unfortunately, they couldn't get it working. They said the Intel CPU was okay, but another Intel chipset was showing 0.00 V. Eventually, they also concluded that it couldn't be repaired.

Here are a few things I've noticed:

- Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing. No lights, no fans, nothing.

- The charging indicator used to work intermittently, but now it doesn't turn on at all.

- Interestingly, I can still charge my phone using the laptop's battery while the laptop itself is switched off. (Always on usb port)

- The DC charging jack was replaced around 5 months ago, and it worked normally for months after that.

I'm confused about the chipset diagnosis. If the Intel chipset is dead or not receiving power, could the USB port still charge my phone from the laptop battery?

Does the 0.00 V reading necessarily mean the chipset itself is dead, or could a power-management circuit or another motherboard component be responsible?

I was charged ₹909 for diagnosis at Lenovo and ₹250 at the local shop. I haven't gone ahead with the ₹25–30k motherboard replacement.

I'd appreciate any advice from people familiar with motherboard-level laptop repairs. Is there any realistic possibility of repairing this, or should I accept that it's gone?

Thanks!

ThinkBook Gen 8 vs Thinkpad T14 gen 2

Hi,

Which one should i get? Between

-ThinkBook Gen 8: Core 5 210H, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM, 5600 MHz, 40 cycles 500 GB NVMe SSD

-ThinkPad T14: Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U, 16 GB of RAM, and a battery reported at 100% capacity but with 648.

The difference is 80usd.

For university and programming in .NET.

I plan to upgrade the RAM to 32 GB in the future.

Lenovo L27h-4a Monitor: Audio/Video stuttering over single USB-C on macOS — Is this a known limitation?

I recently picked up a Lenovo L27h-4a monitor, and I'm running into a frustrating issue when connecting it to my MacBook Air via a single USB-C to USB-C cable (using the factory-provided SuperSpeed USB 3.1 cable).

Here is what's happening:

  • The Problem: When I route audio through the monitor (using its built-in Waves MaxxAudio speakers), the audio is heavily cracked/patchy, and media playback (like YouTube videos) starts severely stuttering and lagging.
  • The Workaround: The moment I change my Mac's audio output back to the built-in laptop speakers while keeping the exact same USB-C cable connected for video and power, the YouTube video instantly plays completely smooth.

Troubleshooting I've already tried:

  • Tested with the original factory cable and different USB-C ports.
  • Adjusted sample rates in macOS Audio MIDI Setup (tried 44.1kHz / 48kHz).
  • Reset CoreAudio daemons and WindowServer.
  • Cleared all downstream USB peripherals plugged into the monitor.
  • Disabled hardware acceleration in browsers.

Since the monitor is advertised with USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode + data) and built-in speakers, I'm wondering if this is a known macOS audio-clock synchronization quirk with Lenovo's firmware/audio chip, or if I happened to get a defective unit (since it's brand new out of the box).

Has anyone else experienced this with a Mac setup, or found a fix that allows single-cable USB-C audio to work smoothly? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Would a Lenovo Idea Tab Pro be perfect for this?

I've used computers forever but know zero about tablets, so no doubt this is a stupid question...

We use a PDF script at a ceremony a few times a year. I tweak the script for each one. Today the team uses a binder with a paper copy. I'd like to modernize. It seems the the Idea Tab Pro would be perfect for that - inexpensive and large enough to have an image similar in size to a sheet of paper when turned sideways. I'd think this would be a trivial conversion. Am I overlooking something else I should consider? Thanks.

Is Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16IMH9 (Ultra 7 155H + RTX 3050 6GB + 16GB RAM + 2K OLED) good for video editing & college?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm considering buying the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16IMH9 with the following specs:

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB VRAM

RAM: 16GB LPDDR5x

Storage: 512GB SSD

Display: 16" 2K OLED

My Main Use Cases:

Short-form video editing (Reels/TikTok/Shorts in 1080p and light 4K) using Premiere Pro & CapCut.

Daily college commuting and productivity.

My Questions for Owners/Users:

How is the thermals and fan noise during video rendering/exporting?

What is the real-world battery life on light tasks (web browsing/docs) with the 2K OLED screen?

Is the weight and 16" form factor manageable for daily backpack carry at university?

Any known issues with the OLED panel or overall build quality/hinges over time?

Thanks in advance!

A good deal or a mistake?

I recently bought a Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 10 with an i7-13645HX, RTX 5060 and 24GB RAM, but I cant find any reviews of this configuration. Seems to be unique for the place where I bought it from?

My previous laptop died, likely due to overheating, so I’m particularly concerned about cooling and longevity.

Does anyone have experience with this model? How are the thermals, and should I be worried about the Intel HX processor? Would a Ryzen version be a safer choice?

I got it pretty cheap for Swedish prices (like 1350€) but wondering if it’s a better idea to return it and hope that I’ll find a better one during Black week/friday.

Thanks for any advice!

No wifi icon / Available connections problem

Ive tried everything I could think of; Reinstall/update drivers, restart WLAN on services.msc, forced shutdown, open the case and check the wifi card, ensure its not my router, netsh winsock reset and even using my phone and usb to go for an optional firmware update. It has been like this since yesterday (since the second our old wifi plan was cancelled because we changed providers) and I feel frustrated already, so if anyone would be able to help I would appreciate it a lot.

Power Button LED Headache

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone, hope everyone's doing well. As you can see from the specs line, I'm using the Legion 5. I've loved everything the legion line stands for. I almost got a LOQ, but I'm really glad i coughed up the extra money for the Legion.

Embracing this year as the year of Linux (LOL), I switched to CachyOS + KDE Plasma 6 as my main OS, with MicroSLOP windows just for kernel anti-cheat games. But one of the main things that troubles me is the Fn + Q mode switches. There is not a distro that I've used that supports the fn + Q OSD (the small indicator that comes near the center bottom of the screen upon change of your performance mode).

I've turned off the LED on my power button, because I do alot of my work in the dark or dim lit situations and the pesky bright Always-On LED below the crispy OLED display is a big turn off.
Is it THAT hard for Lenovo to give a blink LED when switching performance modes thing? Or If anyone has an app that notifies the switch of performance modes in arch based distros. Help a brother out.

Thanks!
