So basically i really want to build a pc, i do have a gaming laptop so i wont rush making the pc right away but one main thing i wanna know is if only ram was made hard to get for building a pc or are other parts hard and expensive to get too. I have no idea how building one works so id like to know abit of how the market is looking rn to at least make something decent, nothing extremely insane.

Like the title shows I’m curious if it’s worth upgrading to a 9070 GRE I refuse to pay close to $1000 for a High end GPU. My current set up is 5800x, 3060ti, and 32gb DDR4. I found a 9070 GRE for msrp at my local microcenter and I know it’s impossible to get anything close to msrp with the current market. Advice?
Update: I’m about 99% sure I’m going to get the 9070 GRE thanks for all the feed back. I’m going with it because it’s $560+tax. Considering all other options it’s the best one for me the 9070 base is $700+tax and I don’t think a 25% price increase is worth 9%-16% performance boost is worth it for me.

At launch of 5k series I bought a top of the line pc with a 42" OLED 4K panel. I've definitely enjoyed the gaming at 4k on ultra with the 5090, and at the time \~3k was worth the price to me for the card. Checked today and a 5080 is still \~2.1k in my country new however a 5090 is selling for \~$8k used.
I'd never in a million years buy a graphics card for 8k. However here I am with one and a single point of failure on my desktop pc.
I have disposable income and don't need the money, however I feel like a chump for not selling this card. That's ~$6k I could be investing into ETFs if downgrading cards
Is a 5080 that big of a downgrade? Im super on the fence on this. I do play mostly AAA games, however id be totally fine with running dlss at balanced + frame gen and toning down ray tracing etc a bit to make up for the difference. Or would it be worse than that?
What's reddit think? Hold the line or sell?

First off, I live in Canada, where availability and especially prices for parts is pretty poor. I'm upgrading from a 3050 8GB, play at 1080p (will go for supersampling if performance allows), and always try for high settings and framerates in mostly single player games. I don't care for raytracing, although a couple of newer titles I'm interested in require it.
My system has a 5800x (a little overkill for these cards, but I got it for $C230), 48GB of before-times RAM, and the biggest issue, I still play off of hard drives. Before-times-me never considered games would demand SSDs before he'd buy one large enough for games, I guess.
Also, haven't really looked at the used market, mostly for fear of getting a brick and ghosted.
With that out of the way, the two cards I'm looking at (13% sales tax included, prices accurate to time of posting) are the Arc B570 and the 9060XT, about $C500 and $C876 respectively.
There is also the bonus options of of the 9070GRE, which has one currently going for C$960, but feels like it'll fall out of my price comfort zone at any moment and the B580, which has units in stock starting at C$80 over the B570.
My biggest concerns are
VRAM, 10GB vs 16GB. While trying to "futureproof" your system is kind of stupid "how long until 10GB of vram becomes not enough for 1080p?" is something that, with prices likely to never get better, keeps me thinking in circles.
Drivers. Not really about stability, although I know Intel has been working on that, but more general experience (which I guess includes stability).
The price delta. This is basically the whole point: is the 9060XT 16GB worth the extra ~C$400 over the B570, for native 1080p in modern AAA games?
This is the PCPP list I'm using to gather pricing and availability data. Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post and any grammar issues, posting from mobile.

Hi everyone! I'm kinda new here. My pc is slowly dying, and my 1060 not handle any new games good :(
Which is why I started thinking about almost completely replacing the components in the near(i hope) future. I've decided on the memory and processor.
First guestion about cpu. I'm looking on r7 7800x3d. Is Gigabyte B650 UD AX good enough for this? I'm not planning on boosting memory, card or processor.
And second, main question about gpu. Long enough i planning to get rtx 5070, but due to ai problems in the world, and cuz my country is shittiest place in the world in last times, i've read a lot about the fact that it's not the most reasonable option to take a card from Nvidia right now, but it's better to take one from Amd. So i started to thinking about 9700xt. In my country it doesn't cost much more, but it has 16 GB of VRAM. I'm not really interested in dlss5 things and path tracing, but framegen might interest me cuz i heard that on last rtx cards it extremely imperceptible. So I can't figure out who I want to take the card from in the end.
In general, are there any obvious problems with amd cards? Or i can safely consider this option at the future? I'm considering on this card "PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Reaper", is it good?
Thanks for answers ^^

I am planning to build new PC.
AMD Radeon RX 9070XT
Ryzen 5 9600x
Other than these 2 I have no idea what to put in. Can you guys help me?

Hey everyone,
I recently bought a PowerColor RX 9060 XT 16GB from Micro Center for $499.99, but I’m considering returning it and exchanging it for the PowerColor RX 9070 GRE Reaper 12GB, which is $549.99 at my store.
The GRE is only $50 more, and I’ve seen people say it’s significantly faster. However, I’m unsure whether it’s worth giving up 4GB of VRAM, and I want to make sure my current PSU can handle it before making a decision.
My current PC specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
- GPU: PowerColor RX 9060 XT 16GB
- RAM: 32GB DDR4-3200
- PSU: EVGA 650 BQ 650W 80+ Bronze, semi-modular
- Motherboard: ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4
Resolution: 1080p currently, with a possible upgrade to 1440p in the future
The GPU I’m considering:
PowerColor RX 9070 GRE Reaper Triple-Fan 12GB
Micro Center’s listing specifies a recommended 650W PSU and 2 × 8-pin power connectors. My EVGA 650 BQ is rated for 650W, but I’m not sure whether it’s a good idea to run the GRE on it long-term or whether I should upgrade to a 750W PSU.
I mainly play Escape from Tarkov, including demanding maps like Streets, along with other games. I want good overall value and a GPU that will last through a future CPU/platform upgrade.
My questions:
1. Is the RX 9070 GRE worth exchanging my RX 9060 XT for at only $50 more?
Is 12GB of VRAM enough for 1080p and eventually 1440p gaming, or would I benefit from keeping the 16GB card?
Is my EVGA 650 BQ a reasonable PSU for the GRE, assuming it’s in good condition and has the required PCIe connectors?
Would I need to buy a new 750W PSU, or would that be unnecessary spending?
How much of a performance improvement should I realistically expect in games with my Ryzen 5 5600X?
I’m still within Micro Center’s return window, so I’d appreciate advice before making the decision. I’d rather make the right purchase now than regret it later.
Thanks!

Hello everyone! I first got my pc back in 2018 and I only upgraded my sdd and gpu since then. I mainly do digital art, sometimes vtube streaming and playing MMO games. I wanted to ask and get some recommendations on what should I upgrade first and choose what should I get..!
currently my build is:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
RAM16.0 GB ddr4
Radeon RX 570 Series
Thank you!

I’m a student studying AI, so I need a GPU with a decent amount of VRAM that allows me to train small to medium-sized machine learning and deep learning models. I also enjoy gaming, so I’d like to run AAA games at decent settings, although I don’t need everything set to ultra.
I’m planning to buy either a 1440p or 1080p 240Hz monitor. My maximum budget is €900, and I’m from the Netherlands. So far, I’ve been looking at the RTX 5060 ti 16GB and the AMD RX 9060 XT or RX 9070 XT. However, I’ve heard that AMD GPUs may not be compatible with as many Python libraries and AI tools as NVIDIA GPUs.
My system now consists of:
- amd ryzen 7 5700g
- 32gb ddr4 ram 3600 mhz/s
- 1000 watt gold psu
- asus rog strix b550 wifi 2

I'm trying to get a PC with a strict €1500–€1550 budget (buying from France/EU).
I got gifted a 1440p OLED 360Hz monitor. Right now I'm playing on a laptop (i7-12700H / RTX 4060) which is fine for Valorant, but I want a desktop that can actually drive AAA games at 1440p.
Here’s my current PCPartPicker draft (~€1583 total):
With current RAM & SSD prices taking up almost €460 for just 1x16GB and 1TB, it severely chokes the GPU budget. I can barely fit a 9060 XT and I'm already over budget.
I see a few options:
I'm open for some ideas/deals, thanks

I have a phantex EX5, so it has the isolated GPU chamber, which means I am height limited for my GPU. Since I am eyeing something like a 3090 or 5080 I do need the vertical space. When the x16 is slot 1 I have 93mm of clearance, that drops to 73 when I go to slot 2.
I am looking at putting a core ultra 7 and 2x16gb ddr5(adding 2 more 16gb later). I would like to have at least 2 NVME slots.
System will be used for gaming as well as 3d modeling and rendering.
I would like to spend in the $300 park. But would spend more for the right features.

Looking to see what people think or know is the best cpu for 65w work. Not just gaming, gaming I would like to be good but mostly looking for work related. Multi core score being important.
Have looked at 9600x and 9700x, but their multi thread score just seemed low.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/multithread/.
My old laptop right now is getting 28.5k with the 185h intel, and the 9700x is 36k but would really like something that can get above 50k if possible but 45k, or 40k is fine.
Not sure whats the best option, dont mind intel or amd. Just max performance at 65w's is desired if anyone knew with results. Of a say 270k plus downgraded to 65w performance. I know some mobile chips are available. But these are non socket types correct just stuck on whatever system their are installed on?
Under 350 dollars preferred but can go higher if its a good chunk better. USA

Hello was thinking of getting the 9070xt but it's a lot more expensive than the regular 9070 for supposedly only 15% perf upgrade.
The 9070xt is around 850 to 899...
9070 around 650 to 680.
I don't think I'll want a 4k monitor, probably a good 1440p with high refresh rate.
Is the XT still worth it over the 9070 if you don't have a 4k monitor ?
Thanks.

As the title says, I really need to upgrade my pc to be able to play new games again, so I've been eyeing a motherboard + CPU but whatever mobo I'll buy, the front panel connector won't fit.
My PC case is a 9 years old Asus M32CD, with a single casing front panel connector, the wires are in the wrong spot and the single "Closed" hole in the connector is also in the wrong spot.
I saw a bunch of articles/sites that state you can move the wires and open the closed hole to adapt the connector to the new motherboard, but I'd like to hear a second/third opinion on this.
This sub is about asking for advice yet won't allow people to post pictures to help understand, I'll see if I can post it in a comment.

I've started looking at building a new PC. It's been over 10 years since I last built a system. I used to tinker and build PCs 20 years ago but I haven't kept up.
I can't really upgrade my current system anymore. I have to build a completely new one. I'd like recommendations on the parts I'm considering, potential alternatives, and any ways I could get better performance or save anywhere possible but still keep performance.
Budget: $1,200, I'm willing to go slightly over but would love to go even lower if at all possible.
Location: NYC
Games: GTA VI and WoW Forever. I'd like a system that performs well now and gives me some room to upgrade in the future. This should last me another 10 years.
My Current PC
Parts I’m Considering
??? Should I pass
I've always used Intel in the past but I see AMD is now the better option? Is AMD the better choice for future upgrades and whether the RX 9070 GRE is the best graphics card for my budget?

Hi all,
My brother's PC is (imo) adequate-ish with managing of settings, but according to him, he wants to upgrade soon for new games like the recently released Modern Warfare 4 and potentially GTA 6 if the rumors of Q1 2027 are to be believed. Either way, I think he'd most benefit from a better CPU and GPU. As far as GPU goes, he will have to find a deal on one at some point, but that can be kicked down the road as a separate purchase.
For CPU, I'm not fully sure which path is best to take from the current specs and prices:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
4x8 Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL DDR4-3600 for total 32GB
EVGA RTX 3070 Ti XC3
2TB NVMe + some 500GB-1TB SATA SSDs
EVGA 750GQ Gold
Dual 1080p 165Hz monitors
Basically, I think he could buy a 5800X3D for roughly $300-350 to max out this (surely?) dead platform and get 2-4 more years out of it, or buy the cheapest Microcenter AM5 CPU/Mobo/RAM bundle for $400. The only issue is that that bundle has a 6 core 7500X3D with mATX and 1x16GB DDR5. I'm sure he can offset some costs by selling off his old CPU/Mobo/RAM, which can be used to buy another stick or a whole new 32GB DDR5-6000 kit and selling that one stick.
Is that 7500X3D worth getting as an upgrade over the 5600X and for the future socket upgradability? Will the 3D V-Cache bring his fps up at 1080p enough to run decently? After reselling old parts, he should be better off just having the same core count but with newer architecture + 3D V-Cache and upgrade path rather than maxing out the AM4 socket with a 5800X3D for marginal cost difference of $50-100-ish and no available future upgrades, right?
The GPU will need to be done at some point later regardless of the CPU platform, so we'll decide on a decent AMD GPU later.
Thanks.

I recently cleaned my custom built PC, as I have many times before. I used 70% isopropyl wipes (I know 99.9% would've been better but too late now), and a can of compress air. I then plugged it back in and turned it on almost immediately after cleaning like an idiot.
I must have messed it up and got water somewhere in the motherboard, because when I turned it on, a few things weren't working.
-The LEDs in ONLY my front intake fans weren't working, the fans were still spinning though.
-I was getting no video output on either of my display ports.
Everything else seemed to be working normally.
-Every other LED worked fine.
-All fans, including the ones in my GPU were spinning normally.
I then turned it back off, after about 30 seconds of letting my life choices sink in.
I came back tomorrow and hopefully tried it again. This time, as u flipped the PSU switch, I saw a flash coming from the IO panel. I then turned the PC on, only to get the same results.
My motherboard is replaceable within reason (B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2), but my GPU dying is another thing (RTX 4070). The complete lack of video output scares me to death, but the fans still work, so maaaaybbeeeee???
Anyone with more knowledge than me know if the no video output is a death sentence for my bank account, or if there is still hope?
P.S.
pls be gentle.

I’m looking to build my Girlfriend a pc she has a gaming laptop at this point, but she’s definitely in need of an upgrade. Not looking to break the bank though. Some games she currently plays are Split Fiction, Modded Minecraft, PowerWash Simulator, various other little indie style games. Her biggest thing right now is the modded Minecraft she’s not really able to get a lot of the bigger mod packs due to the lack of RAM and other components in her Laptop, but she has expressed that there is other games that she can’t play due to her laptop not being good enough. She currently has a HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop that she plugs into an actual monitor to game on. The build doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Budget between $1,000 and $2,000, would be purchasing within USA.
