hot take, harshly criticise me for it! "You never cared about women's sports till it came to the question of trans women competing in it" is the worst argument I have ever heard

Every time a debate about trans women in sports against cis women, I see this idiotic line being spouted. First up, I am a fan of women's sports, I enjoy watching women's pro tennis (I in fact model my game after theirs) and women's MMA.

Most importantly, why exactly must one be a fan of women's sports to feel that trans women competing against cis women is unfair? Hormone therapy may weaken the muscles, granted, but frame size does not change if one has gone through puberty. Being an MMA fan and casual practitioner, I know that the male skeletal structure is much more capable of throwing punches with force - broader shoulders and narrower hips make for much more turning force, and thicker fists and wrists deliver force better.

Take this argument and apply it to other social issues:

"You didn't care about Ukraine till Russia invaded it"

"You didn't care about Gaza till Israel started killing"

"You didn't watch pro cycling and care about Lance Armstrong doping"

This is silly and a bad faith argument. Please do better. Spamming this line everywhere only makes one think you are more of an idiot.

Edit: reworded certain wording on the last sentence as per mod advice, thanks

Discussion Feature Concept - Dead Raider Possessions Return System

Post image
0 Upvotes

Krita file

Just a little idea I had recently; what if you had the ability to return the items that a Raider brought in after you fail to save their buns from a Rocketeer (or another Raider)? Or secure your dead teammate's gear if there's an extract nearby?

I put this concept together in a short time so let me know if there are any terrible consequences you foresee with this or if this is a terrible idea altogether.

Edit: Addressing some of the replies in the comments,

What is the incentive for the depositing Raider?

Nothing, it would just be a kindness-of-heart mechanic, as rewards could incentivize griefing. I intended this to be a feature that isn't used very often, just something that goes along with the whole 'will I get shot?' or 'will I get de-fibbed?' PvPvE social dynamics.

Wouldn't this remove the risk from the gameplay loop?

In PvPvE, I don't think it will. This system wouldn't guarantee you get your inventory back, in fact it's unlikely, since a Raider can just keep your loot for themselves at no additional cost and there's no incentive to return items back to their owner. They could also just perish before making it to extract. At most, you would get some guns/blueprints returned to you every couple of matches. I would argue this mechanic adds more depth to the loop than it removes.

I also understand it would be less interesting in PvP/PvE only lobbies since either, items would never get deposited, or they would get deposited almost all the time. The later could be rectified with a per-raid deposit limit on the depositing Raider, as suggested by the replies.

I wouldn't remember what items belong to a dead Raider in my Inventory.

This is addressed in the infographic; the items that cannot be returned will be greyed out in the Deposit UI; the game tracks what items belong to which Raider.

I think I've addressed most of the concerns, and again, this is just a concept I came up with, there's no need to be combative/mean-spirited.

casual hot take Not voting isn't the problem, you don't like people who vote differently

I see a bunch of people talk about how not voting is a red flag and deal-breaker and then go on to talk about the issues that are affecting them personally. The explanation doesn't match the point. The explanation reveals that your actual deal-breaker is anybody who doesn't vote for who you did and that includes people who don't vote

When the truth makes somebody look ugly they choose hide it in lies and misdirection

Irish accent is hard to understand. During a match, 15-year-old English football (soccer) players left the pitch because an Irish player had called England player "Monkey." However, it was later revealed to be a miscommunication caused by the thick Irish accent. Irish had actually said "Muppet".

Community Event Nextfest Participants: Ask Steam to remove AI disclosure label in Survey

Should indie devs really have to suffer the consequences of being witch hunted and harassed when AAA developers are all using AI without disclosure willy nilly and get none of the hate? Let your voice be known in steam's survey for nextfest participants, remove the AI disclosure tag. A game should be measured by it's quality, not it's tag.

Forever When did dumb names become popular?

Are the majority of names now an attempt at a joke, vulgar innuendo, or getting some generic term as if it’s a prize?

I'm not saying every name has to be RP. Non-RP names have always been around. But I'm genuinely wondering what happened.

Old non-RP names were still kind of cool: like you’d see something like Aftermath, Battletoad, Safenuke. Now it feels like most of what I see is a joke, vulgar innuendo, or a generic word grabbed like it's a prize: Deerty Sloot, Ben Dhover, Orc Peon, Zug Penii.

I’m seeing people brag about names and it’s confusing as fug. Is it streamer culture, paid name reservations turning names into collectibles, or am I just getting old?

We took out $300,000 in loans, hand-drew 7,000 frames of animation, and made a game about a middle-aged dude in his underwear. Gennady is out today - AMA!

Hey Reddit!

We’re Feed 64, a small indie team. We spent nearly five years making Gennady, invested over $300,000 in development, and today we finally released it.

You know, the quiet life.

Who’s Gennady?

Your average, slightly out-of-shape, middle-aged dude. He finds himself in his underwear inside an alien meat factory and has to figure out how to escape.

“Figure out” mostly means fighting grotesque creatures, dashing through enemies, and using his own body as a weapon.

The result is a fast-paced action roguelike platformer with mostly black-and-white visuals and absurd humor.

Everything is drawn by hand. Yes, all 7,000 animation frames too.

In an age of AI slop, we’re especially proud to show off our artist’s work. All the artwork and frame-by-frame animation were created by hand, with no AI-generated images.

There’s an artist behind every movement Gennady makes and every disgusting alien creature he encounters. We’d love to talk about how we drew this world and brought it to life.

And it all started as a mobile game.

During development, the project grew into a game for PC and consoles. Along the way, we had to rethink decisions, tackle new challenges, and learn from our mistakes. Nearly five years later, Gennady is finally available to buy and play.

Answering your questions today:

- Denis Zorin - Art Lead u/Zealousideal_Rule_14
- Ivan Chikalenko - Game Designer u/Feed_64

Ask us about:

- How a mobile project became a PC and console game and what had to change.
- Why development took nearly five years.
- Where the money went and how we funded the project.
- What it’s like to draw thousands of animation frames by hand.
- The combat, enemies, and game mechanics.
- What inspired us, where we went wrong, and what we’d do differently now.

Or anything else. It’s an AMA - see you in the comments!

Gaming I hate how the fandom treated her

Post image
0 Upvotes

The video had the most cold takes everyone's already been saying about genshin (except for a few) and it had the most overblown reaction ever.

For context, this youtuber posted her first vid talking about the issues she had with genshin. And with these types of videos, they tend to be opinion-based as far as im aware. At first, most people seemed to agree with her in the comments. I know because I was there before the video blew up. But I think after a few weeks(?) there was just a massive influx of hate which im pretty sure mostly came from other content creators(like wattsfl) reacting to the vid

From what I recall, most of her points were already popular within the fandom. Example being: Natlan, female characters' clothing and writing, villain writing... but some were definitely new such as linnea being a creep so it was a suprise to me when the video was massively hated on when most of these points were already talked about? So after this, people started calling her a misogynist, a pedophile, racist, ableist all those words and their proof of that? "Well she called Linnea a pedophile! She called Navia a slut, Nefer a stripper.." which btw was a twisted form of what she actually said in the video:

"It reads as extremely fetishistic to me which is a problem to me when the people she's fantasizing about look like children"

"This design is basically a stutter version of a traditional French aristocratic gown"

"Nefer literally does the stripper crawl"

I'd understand why people were led to that conclusion for the first one but the other two? Completely different context and meanings. I'd also like to point out that alot of these arguments against her are parroted and I think alot of them came from wattsfl's video reacting to candybug. And if you thought candybug's video was bad? Wattsfl is just as bad if not worse imo. But yeah the fandom's reaction was horrendous, accusing her of every horrible trait in the book with armchair psychology mind you. I think the worst was when people started using misogynistic insults against her to defend her supposed misogyny to the female characters? An example I remember was someone editing a shirt saying "I love fictional dicks" on her sona which to me is so strange. If you're trying to fight against misogyny, why would you resort to misogyny to achieve that? And there was people accusing her of being an ableist for the linnea take when they in the same breath infantilise her and dismiss her crossing over boundaries because she's "autism-coded", basically stereotyping. I mean if youre gonna pull out the ableism card the character at least has to be stated that they're ND. And sometimes when I check my comment notification, there's still people to this day commenting hate on her vid which was like months ago

But yeah that's my rant I dont even know if people are gonna read this bcs I just recently remembered this situation

Discussion So, Kith’ix was supposed to be a secret boss, right?

Hey everybody - take a ride with ol' Orangutape as I cook up a conspiracy theory on the true design of the Venemous Abyss, what could have been and what got delayed in a workaround. I want to lay out a few obvious things before I get into detail on how I think this was all really intended to be laid out.

TL;DR - Kith'ix fits too well into the Venomous Abyss, I think he's another victim of cut content for various reasons

THE CONSPIRACY

Kith'ix was meant to be a secret boss after Ulatek, but got delayed for a number of reasons - mainly the timeline with Blizzcon coming up and tuning difficulties in this raid. It was cut to make sure raiders would not overlap and saves Blizzard a huge headache.

The previous raid had a secret phase, something we haven't seen in years. Let's follow it up with a secondary raid that has a secret boss, something that also hasn't been seen in years. Where's the problem? *How do we close out the third season if we already used up Secret Phases and Secret bosses?* For this reason, I think Kithi'ix was booted out to a farther raid.

**THE OBVIOUS*\*

Getting to Kith'ix
The entrance to Kith'ix chamber is located underneath the Ulatek fight. If you enter the raid from the underbelly you are clearly teleported back into the raid, it has a different set of doors that lead into the Ulatek's room only drained. Ulateks venom is draining down into the Kith'ix raid in the front section.

The name of the raid itself - Venomous *Abyss*
What about the raid inspires any abyss feeling? It's all flat and there are pools for poison, maybe you could consider the coiled altar to be an abyss? But overall it's fairly level throughout. Abyss has a shadowy connotation however, which leads me to think it had a void meaning originally which would be our surprise at the end.

The temple pictographs
Throughout the entire zone, there are carvings of Ulatek beating Kith'ix, so this one is fairly clear foreshadowing. If I wasn't lazy, I could take some screenshots but you're stuck with me.

The NPC's involved
This one is a little sketchy but I think it's fairly easy to explain on the fly. We have like 6 NPCS going into Kith'ix including Arator and others, but really only Liadrin matters. None of them talk to her except for those involved in the Venemous Abyss however. None of the NPCs showed up for Hulk Mushroom, so why are they so invested this go around?

**THE EVIDENCE*\*

The coiled altar fills with two colors - green and purple. Obviously Malacrass is voodoo energy or whatever, but his purple color scheme isn't represented anywhere else - except for with Kith'ix and arguably Vashnik. The doors leading to the Kith'ix raid are corrupted purple, but I really think that was the intended entrance that just got pushed to the new raid.

Ulatek has no voice lines. This is the first time a final boss hasn't talked shit to us in forever (?). That seems very odd, especially given Ulatek has shown up in Warcraft before and has spoken. Loa frequently speak regardless of their animal nature. Did she originally have voice lines that referenced something else that had to get removed?

Ulatek shatters the middle platform in the heat of phase 3.
Ok so this one is probably a reach but feels reasonable to me. So she gets pissed and smashes the middle section and that's phase 3. Going into the Kith'ix raid that area is clearly shattered from down below, which would make sense with the angry smash, and also leads into the Kith'ix being revealed.

Ulatek has no kill cinematic. In game or CGI made, this is the first boss in what feels like a long time without any kind of celebration of an end boss death. This feels extra weird, given that we are teleported to the side platforms where eggs are collected, and her corpse is just skeletonized and laying there. whoops Im wrong on this one, it was just very short and more focused on the twins.

Kith'ix has no exit, the entrance drops you into an ABYSS where you have to ultimately hearth out or get a portal. It has a big cinematic finish to it, and there are consequences to it (whether you enjoyed them or not)

**THE END*\*
That's all I got. Why do I care? I don't know I'm bored but I keep thinking about this when raiding and I feel like it's not talked about. Maybe I'm stupid and it's obvious. Yeah it's probably that. Orangetape outta here.

Discussion People who ruin the Witcher 3 with DLSS 5 mods – what are you missing in the original graphics?

Thumbnail

I can understand when people try to adjust some older games to their taste with this amateur DLSS 5 implementation. But I've been playing Remastered for a week and I can't see any scene which I would even want to ruin with DLSS 5. The lighting, the colors, the depth, the artistic vision - everything is great now when the latest patch has been released.

And Geralt has his unique appearance and unique expression. I don't remember a single DLSS 5 example where he'd look like himself. It's always like the slopified face was photoshopped over his real face.

I think CDPR didn't implement this tech for a reason. Instead, they upgraded path tracing to a level when each screenshot from this game looks like a masterpiece. And people are still not happy with the result looking for a solution to "improve" something that in my view doesn't need any improvement (not counting some RenoDX and other small fixes which mostly related to screen calibration, gamma and etc.).

Keskustelu Kasvisproteiinit lisäävät mieshormonien määrää miehillä

Tunnen satoja vegaaneja, olenhan itsekin. Yleinen nettikeskustelujen kulttuurisotailmiö veganismiin liittyen on "soijapojittelu".

https://www.uef.fi/fi/artikkeli/elain-ja-kasviproteiineilla-erilainen-yhteys-miesten-testosteronipitoisuuksiin

Politics Doctors: I-638 means "pelvic exam, test their genes or test their hormone levels" for girls to play K-12 sports

SEATTLE TIMES: Behind this fall’s ballot measure on transgender student athletes, one that’s pushed Washington’s youth sports into a national spotlight, is a web of ambiguous language that many health providers in the state are still trying to untangle.

Some parts of Initiative 638, a hotly debated measure brought by conservative political committee Let’s Go Washington, are clear. The initiative, if passed, would ban trans girls from participating in K-12 interscholastic girls sports. It would not require a new, additional medical appointment. It would apply only to girls, not boys, teams.

Other portions, like how the measure would alter the way health providers give athletic assessments to all girls, are murkier.

According to the first section of I-638, for example, “existing Washington state law and school district policies require students to undergo a routine physical examination prior to participation in interscholastic sports, which includes documentation of the student’s sex assigned at birth.”

Some health providers have immediate questions: Which state law? How is a “routine physical examination” defined? What “documentation” is the language referring to?

And while the initiative does not explicitly require genital exams for anyone, mixed messaging over how providers would have to verify student information has caused confusion, too.

“This is so clearly written by somebody who does not understand what I’m doing in a sports physical,” said Dr. Glenna Martin, a family physician who works at a Seattle community health center and who opposes the measure.

I-638 supporters say, in practice, the initiative wouldn’t change much for doctors, that it would just add a check box on a medical form. But the measure’s vague writing has left many health experts throughout the state uncertain or misinformed about what they could be required to do when signing off on students’ sports eligibility.

Campaigns on either side of I-638 have spent months arguing over what the initiative would or would not do, though much of that back-and-forth isn’t represented in the four-sentence description that appears on the ballot.

Many health professionals and expert organizations, including the Washington chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, have declined to comment publicly on the measure. In the state voters guide, no medical organizations are listed as supporting I-638.

Some, however, have spoken out in opposition, including the Washington Academy of Family Physicians, the Washington State Nurses Association and the Washington State Psychological Association.

Here’s what several medical providers from around the state say about how they’re interpreting the measure and how they would implement potential changes, should it pass.

How would sports exams for student athletes change?

To Martin, who specializes in family, addiction and abortion medicine, I-638 appears to require providers to confirm girls’ assigned sex at birth when analyzing their ability to play school sports, using one of three methods.

Those three methods are, according to the initiative, looking at “reproductive anatomy, genetic makeup, or normal endogenously produced testosterone levels.”

In other words, Martin said, she could give a young patient a pelvic exam, test their genes or test their hormone levels. (She added these tests do not necessarily determine somebody’s sex or gender.)

That does not mean that all providers would be required to give students pelvic exams for them to play sports.

It does seem to mean that providers could give pelvic exams — or a genetic or blood test — if they felt “legally obligated to comply,” Martin said. It depends on how individual providers would feel about enforcing a change to patient care based on the outcome of an election, she said.

“At the end of the day, I wouldn’t do it because I think it is completely unethical,” Martin added. “I would probably cross that part off and say, ‘this is not medically indicated.’”

he said she also opposes the measure because, despite being a point often at the heart of debate, there is not consistent research that shows trans girls have an athletic advantage over cis girls.

Let’s Go Washington counters that “sex-based athletic categories are necessary,” as supporters of the initiative wrote in the state voters guide.

Hallie Herzberg, spokesperson for the political committee, has a different interpretation of the initiative language when it comes to confirmation of assigned sex at birth.

According to Herzberg, providers would be able to confirm their patient’s assigned sex at birth “based on history of treating the patient.”

“In most cases, it would just be a doctor relying on existing medical records to check that box, so we don’t anticipate much of a change,” Herzberg wrote in an email.

She also noted, according to the initiative, providers would not be able to use birth certificates to confirm sex “because they can be changed in Washington state.”

Dr. Ken Gass, a retired pediatrician in Bellingham, said that even if the initiative allows providers to check assigned sex at birth with existing medical records, not all children have regular primary care providers who have those records.

Those students often, unfortunately, get sports physicals from providers they’ve never met before, like at an urgent care center or during a mass clinic in a school gym, Gass said.

It is true, as the measure language says, that state law allows school districts or regional interscholastic sports organizations, like the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, to oversee and manage their own rules for school sports.

It’s true that per WIAA rules, student athletes must receive a sports physical exam from a health provider in order to get certain medical forms signed.

It is not true that those sports physicals typically include official provider confirmation of a student’s assigned sex at birth, according to several Washington primary care and family medicine doctors.

“I’m not usually checking that off,” Martin said.

If I-638 passes, that would change.

Herzberg, of Let’s Go Washington, said there is a WIAA form that requires confirmation of assigned sex at birth, pointing to a medical history form-rev.pdf) on the association’s website.

That document, which does ask about assigned sex at birth and gender identity, goes into a student’s medical file, per WIAA, but it’s signed by students and/or their parents, not their health providers.

“They are official medical forms,” Herzberg wrote in an email.

The two WIAA documents that health providers usually sign are a physical exam form and a medical eligibility form. Neither asks for confirmation of assigned sex at birth.

“Now you’re in a situation where if you’re honest, you’re not going to check a box on a child you do not know,” without having to then turn to a pelvic or genetic exam for confirmation, he said.

As a result, said Gass, who opposes the initiative, he guessed that all students, including cis and trans girls, may be less motivated to join school sports. Or providers may be less likely to offer sports physical exams at all, he said.

“Doctors don’t want to put themselves at risk of signing a paper of someone they don’t know,” Gass said.

What do health providers typically check during sports physicals?

Some providers pushed back against the wording in I-638 about what state policies currently require around school sports.

Dr. Eloi Hoopman, a family physician in Pierce County, said the topic can come up, but “we just take (students’) word for it.” She doesn’t do pelvic exams or other testing to confirm kids’ assigned sex at birth for sports physicals, she said.

According to Let’s Go Washington, the initiative would allow providers to sign off on sports physical forms, using patient information they gather in annual well-child visits.

Most children in the U.S. receive annual well exams, but not all do, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Hoopman has said it’s misleading for proponents of I-638 to conflate the two types of exams, and called the measure “poorly written.”

Now, how provider roles could change when caring for student athletes is up to voters.

A “yes” vote on the initiative bans trans girls from girls K-12 sports. A “no” vote rejects the proposed ban, and maintains Washington’s existing policies that allow students to compete on teams aligned with their gender identity.

Ballots must be returned to official election drop boxes by 8 p.m. Tuesday. The U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing your ballot at least one week before Election Day, so at this point, drop boxes are a better option.
