Hi r/nus! I am soham a Class 12 student in India (CBSE Commerce: Economics, Accountancy, BST, Informatics Practices). No Class 12 Maths. Maths and I agreed to see other people.
NUS Admissions confirmed in writing that Economics meets the Industrial Design subject prerequisite, so I'm not completely winging it.
The path:
- Boards in March 2027 (currently negotiating with Accountancy)
- A gap year to build projects and prep for the interview
- Apply Dec 2027 for Aug 2028, with SUTD and NTU as backups
- Ideally ID + the iDP minor + the Entrepreneurship minor, then a few years working in Singapore
Projects so far:
- A payroll and inventory app for a small manufacturing unit (Python/FastAPI)
- A planned automated food dispenser (pumps, sensors, hygiene mode), currently somewhere between "prototype" and "very ambitious sketch"
-a management project too
Questions:
Any ID students here from a non-science background? How did it go?
What do the design exercise and interview actually feel like?
Does a gap year help or hurt?
Honestly, is this plan worth going through with, or should I change something?
Honest answers welcome. I'd rather hear them now than in 2028.
