Admin Post Weekly Recap | October 22, 2026

It's what day? That's right! Thursday! In addition to the various shapes and sizes of seasonal Reese's that I've been consuming, the neighborhoods around me are going hard with the Halloween decorations this year! There's at least three of those giant skeletons in various costumes within a two block radius of Casa Opus. I'm here for it, though! I'm also here for the Recap! Shall we?

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Wanted to start off with a thank you to everyone who has used the Help Navigator and left feedback! It's been super helpful and we are working on improving some of the answers based on your ratings! If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out here! We've also added that link to Post Guidance in this sub!

  • Mod World is this Saturday! If you're a mod, this is a great event that we've been doing annually for a while now! Sign up and show up! It's a good time with great information! And you never know who might show up. ;) There's more over in r/ModEvents!

  • Desktop Reddit had a moment yesterday where it just wasn't Redditing. Old Reddit and the apps worked, though! This was fixed up really fast, so major props to the teams that dove into this and got it worked out.

  • Little change to the ongoing For You and Following tab experiment. The "For You" tab may be called "Discover". Everything else is the same, including selecting which view you want and having that selection remembered.

  • There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format.

  • There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time in select communities.

  • Some users may see the "Popular" tab along with the For You and Following tabs.

  • There's still the experiment with the X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. If you don't have an X on a post in your feed, you can go into the post and hide it from there.

  • And there's an experiment where you may see Related Posts at the bottom of a post. There isn't a way to remove those.

  • Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove folks from experiments, but I can (and do!) pass along your thoughts!

  • Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". Reddit will never ask another user to contact you on our behalf. That is someone trying to scam you. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.42.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,193 posts. That's down 139 posts from the 1,332 that we had last week.

  • 3,770 comments. That's down 656 comments from the 4,436 we had last week.

  • 731k views. That's down about 45k-ish views from the 776k -ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - DELETING ACCOUNTS

Let's talk deleting accounts this week!

There are times when a user may want to delete their account. You can do this from the desktop site or from the app. If it fails on the app, try the desktop site and that should work better. To delete your account from the app, log into the account, tap your profile avatar, tap Settings at the bottom, tap Account Settings at the top, tap Delete Account at the bottom. From there, you'll see a message that says "Once you delete your account, your profile and username are permanently removed from Reddit and your posts, comments and messages are dissociated (not deleted) from your account." If you'd like to know more about that, you can click "Learn more" and it will take you to this Help Center article.

To delete your account on the desktop site, you can click your profile avatar, then Settings, and then scroll down to where you can click "Delete account". You'll get a pop up which will require you to enter your username and password, as well as a checkbox to click in order to delete the account. Reddit is unable to delete an account on your behalf.

Once your account is deleted, that's it for the username! Reddit does not allow for the recycling or reuse of usernames, so no one else (including you) will be able to claim that username or use that account after it has been deleted.

To summarize that Help Center article, when you delete your account, your content is NOT DELETED. If there is content on your account when your account is deleted, the content will remain, but the username will appear as [deleted]. The content will only be accessible with a direct link and will not appear in Reddit search. Deleting your content does not delete other users' content! If there are comments on your post from other users, that content will remain. You are unable to delete other users' content.

If you want your content to be deleted, you will need to delete your content individually BEFORE YOU DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT. There is not a way to do this all at once. There may be some third party apps out there that will do this for you, but Reddit does not endorse or support any of them. Reddit is unable to delete content that was on your account after your account is deleted.

While content from deleted accounts will not appear in Reddit search, that content may continue to show up in cached search engine results for some time after deletion. This is due to the way search engines work and is not something Reddit can control or force to update for you. The deleted information will eventually fall out of the results but we have no way of predicting how long that may take. However, Google has made it easier to request the removal of personally identifiable information and you can read about that in their help center.

Desktop Overwhelmed by unwanted "suggested" subs (desktop)

Yesterday my feed became totally cluttered by "suggested" subs that I've never searched or have interest in viewing. It's making the user experience aggravating in the extreme. I keep muting the referrals and indicating that I do not wish to see similar posts, but they keep coming from all over the topical map. Searching for a way to stop these suggested posts offered solutions that no longer appear to be in settings. Please, how can I stop this madness? It's totally eroding the Reddit experience.

Mobile Web Can't sort by hot

Suddenly today I can no longer sort my feed by hot. The only options are Best (which shows days-old posts) and New. I use mobile web, and Old.reddit doesn't work well on my phone browser. Are my options just 1) deal with it 2) swap to an app or 3) deal with old.reddit?

Profile How do I stop Reddit from recommending subs?

Post image
• Upvotes

All the answers I've found on google have a "suggested communities" option that I don't have. Maybe the answers I found are outdated, as Reddit loves to move options around and tick them back on, but for today's sake - how do I disable this?

Mobile/App More than 50% of my home feed is posts from subs I never subbed to and don't care about. Is this fixable? Popular is similar, mostly full of niche subs I have no interest in.

Desktop For You Page has returned, How can I remove?

The for you page on my home feed has returned. I want to remove it. I don't want pages I'm not subscribed to showing up on my home feed at all. This is something that I've commented on before.

Additionally, there's no longer the Hot sorting on my home page feed, it's just Best and New? Best sucks, and makes me quit out of reddit pretty consistently.

Overall, something has updated with the reddit feed, and it's seemingly been done to make me annoyed, which is a choice. Please revert or fix.

Desktop Help! I can't mute communities reliably

In the Popular feed, I keep muting communities. but they reappear. When I check my settings for muting, they disappear. It happens in the app as well. What can I do to stop seeing these terrible subs?

Mobile Web Homepage now showing recommendations! I don't want recommendations.

I'm purposely not subscribe to any subreddit and before today my Reddit home page had nothing on it which I liked, for some reason today it has a bunch of recommended crap that I don't want to see.

I don't want Reddit to push or force content on me.

Is there a way to disable this? As I do not see an options in settings.

Edit 1: I tagged this incorrectly it applies to desktop and mobile web.

Edit 2: Here's a workaround i found to stop this but requires you're running firefox with Ublock origin. Go to ublock origin settings, My Filters and add this:
www.reddit.com###interest-home-feed-main[data-faceplate-tracking-context*="for-you"] shreddit-feed

This blocks it on my desktop, i'll try on mobile and report back. - Confirmed, this works on mobile firefox as well.

edit3: adjusted filter to remove invalid row

• Upvotes

I uploaded a 1080p 60fps screen recording and posted it, and when i looked at the post the resolution of the video was smth like 360p (maybe even lower idk) is it because of my internet connection etc. or reddits fault?

Posting Why are my posts suddenly getting caught by Reddit’s automated filters?

• Upvotes

A few days ago, I had an issue with my account that was later resolved by Reddit’s admins.
Since then, I’ve noticed that many of my posts aren’t making it through Reddit’s automated filters, even across different communities.
I never had this problem before, and I’m not posting anything unusual or against community guidelines.
Has anyone experienced this after having an account issue resolved? Is this a temporary thing, or is there something I can do to get my account back to normal?

Admin/Dev responded Invalid Username and Password after password reset

I haven't been able to log into my account for over a year, resetting the password still results in the same error on login. I cannot login with email as it gives me this account instead. I sent multiple tickets to reddit support with no response.

The username for the account is mm_kay

Access Account hacked

As title states, my 9 year account was hacked (I think). I received an email this morning saying my OWN email was added to my account. I then was kicked out of my account on the Reddit app and now cannot get an email to reset my password. I checked my page from this one and there hasn’t been any new activity. I submitted a ticket with Reddit and hoping to hear back soon. Just wanted to check in and see if there is anything else I could be doing in the meantime?

Desktop Randomly started getting recommended communities now? (Desktop)

I'm for some reason now getting posts from random subreddits I'm not currently in/following, even though I specifically turned the feature off basically when I created the account. Now, looking in my settings I'm not even seeing the option to turn it back off. Did they remove the feature or smth?

Access Can no longer sort by top and a timeframe on the home page?

I used to go through the top posts of the week of all the subs I'm in in aggregate every week by sorting by 'Top' and 'Week' on the home page, now the option for top is gone unless I'm on a particular subreddit. Anyone else have this issue?

Mobile/App Search Bar

How can I get rid of that search bar that keeps blocking my screen? How do I return to my feed or to my home page when it popped up? TIA!

Desktop How do I get sort by hot back??

The new "For You" is absolutely only for ad buyers, not me.

The Following is giving me days old and zero karma posts.

Why even took Hot sort away?? If it's too good so Reddit hates it, then be assured it's only marginally better then New and Best.

This is beyond dumb.

As the title says, yesterday evening I was logged out and wasn’t able to log back in. Today when trying to log in it is asking me for the 6 digit code from my Authenticator app but I have no recollection of setting up 2FA

Profile Why is Reddit suddenly asking for me to verify my profile and asking about my "Organization" when there is none?

I've had this Reddit account for years, and now Reddit is suddenly asking me to have a "verified account email" and that it must be an "official email from your organization's domain" and is asking me for supporting documents. What organization? I just have a regular, free Reddit account and I've never been asked this before.
