It seems like many users have learned this technique:

1. Make a comment on a target comment. As rude or as offensive as you please!
2. Wait a bit.
3. Delete the comment.

The comment is gone from the sub and the thread it was in, but it remains in the notification list of the person who made the target comment. At least, I think this is how it works. For sure, it happens that a comment appears in my feed but the comment is gone from the thread. Sometimes, its innocuous: a duplicate, or later rewritten after being deleted. But my concern is the malicious, abusive usage.

People will use this techniques to get a stab in during a heated thread. The comment can't be reported because it was deleted. Can't even be fully read, truncated to some length dependent on the reading platform.

As a moderator, we can't help our users avoid that kind of abuse. And we're subject to the same abuse as the users.

This has been a problem for at least a year, and is just more bad UI and product design on Reddit's part.

Can something please be done?

When I post in my own sub, Reddit recommends that a better place for my post would be some other subs. Why does it do that? It's as if Reddit thinks I'm off-topic in my own sub.

This is a rather unusual one.

2 days ago there was a post containing a photo and personal details about someone, asking if anyone had any more information about the person. Moderators removed it under Rule 3 as doxxing with a ModTeam comment to this effect. (EDIT for clarification, Comment as Mod Team, i.e. user subredditname-ModTeam)

24 hours later, a different account posted exactly the same thing. Identical post with the same photo. This was also removed under Rule 3 with a ModTeam comment. That ModTeam comment was reported as spam but the report was dismissed, flagged as report abuse and the comment approved. A bit over 2 hours ago, that ModTeam comment was removed by Reddit.

Is there a way to get this reviewed as a false positive or community interference?

Reddit removed the ability to sort by Mod Notes / Bans when looking at a user profile, which means teams are sometimes having to scroll through hundreds of removals and stuff to find mod notes. Teams like ours use spreadsheets with predetermined rule violation repercussions (escalating bans that follow different tracks for different rule violations).

It makes it painfully difficult to scroll through all of the other mixed in automod removals, approvals, filters, and other actions.

It seemed like it was such a small sort button only available to make mods' times easier when viewing that log, and it's been gone for a while. We use mod notes as a clear tracker of a user's violation history, but it's becoming a huge time spend to scroll through the log on very active users to see if there is anything in recent history to consider when actioning.

I see that a really cool thing for selecting plugins for a community has appeared in this community , called App Finder.

I would like to be able to run a community analysis through it and receive a recommended selection.

yes I see we have an options but analysis and recommendation I can't see, yes I see "explain what you need" but not an recommendations

I think some moderators and especially new moderators may not know exactly what they need or maybe there's some cool app specifically for the kind of community person mod.

Would be nice, thoughts?

I'm somewhat new to Reddit and I try to be a good community member. I didn't see a community for something I am passionate about, Co-ops in NYC, and so I founded a subreddit about it. It's been a few years, we have wonderful members, and I really don't need to moderate with a heavy hand.

However, one of the threads we have up concerns a specific Proptech company. A number of different community members have shared their anecdotal experiences of working with the company. There is an overall general sense that it's too much tech, not enough people. I think the thread is fair (I have actual personal experience with this company, and too much tech is indeed one of its problems.)

Yet for months, this company has sent bots ("0 Karma"! "1 Karma"!) to try to get me to take the thread down.

It's been a drag, bordering on harassment.

And spookily enough, they're always indirect. It's never "Hi, I work at this company, and I wish you could take this down because it's not flattering" -- but it's instead, "hey this thread violates your subreddit Rule #3."

Today they changed their strategy and sent a user with actual karma, asking me to take the thread down.

What do I do? Part of me is like, "wow, this is too much unpaid work," but another part of me hates the whole fighting-in-the-shadows nature of the campaign.

we recently installed Read the Rules devvit app. but whenever it approves a post, and deletes its removal comment, Admin Tattler sends a modmail that AEO has unstickied a comment. its creating quite the inbox spam.

whats causing this? can I mute unsticky actions?

One of my subreddits has been having an issue where content that is not breaking any of our rules is being reported under a broader rule.

In reviewing the rule, I could make an excruciatingly pedantic argument that it sorta, kinda "violates" the rule. So as much as I believe it is done in bad faith, I cannot be certain.

I also don't know if it is a one off report, or a serial false reporter. Would I be right in presuming a solitary report is not report abuse? (The Reddit Cares system was not abused here, I know that is viewed differently.)

As to the Reddit Care reports, we have seen an uptick in posts where people are posting about how they want to give up. Usually, from accounts with no previous history. We are actually more concerned these are people looking for others to offer them financial support. I wouldn't want to see our members who believe those posts are genuine getting hit with a Reddit Cares report violation because the post indicated someone was at risk for self-harm.

How and to whom can I report accounts that are very likely bots?

safety_spamurai approved a submission that someone had reported.

The safety_spamurai account is a new one on me. Reading up about it in this sub, makes me understand it's an admin tool, but not one that approves unwanted posts.

Why would safety_spamurai approve a low-effort submission in our sub that someone had reported?

This has been an ongoing issue for months now. We have reported these accounts, their domain, and their obvious manipulation, but the admins aren't doing anything about it. What does is take to get the admins to actually do something about it?

Hello! I am a mod for r/tallyhall, a band previously in a 15 year hiatus, so, well, no tours or anything, so I have 0 experience with dealing about ticket scammers

However, this month they unexpectedly returned, and we've been getting a lot of scammers (however i do see a few reoccurring names) scamming fans for 100-ish dollars at a time

Is there any standard procedure to report these scammers? Do they just roam free?

So I’m a mod of a sub related to a reality tv show , some immature fans of a contestant keep reporting comments that are against that contestant for absolutely no reason.

I saw some new accs who made reddit acc just to discuss abt the reality show got shadowbanned because of excessive illogical reports against them

How to stop it? Is there any way possible to know who is using the report system illogically?

I am running into a persistent issue where I cannot reorder the moderator list, and I keep getting an error message every time I try.

Here are the details:

I have fully met the 90-day account/mod requirements.

I hold full permissions / top moderator status.

The issue is not limited to a single subreddit; I tested it across multiple subreddits that I manage, and the exact same error happens every time.

I have tried both the mobile app and desktop browser, but the problem persists.

Could you please look into this bug and let me know how to fix it, or if there's a backend issue affecting my account?

Hi there! OpusCroakus here! Guess what I want to talk about?? If you guessed account security, you’re kinda right! I do want to talk about keeping things secure, like your mod teams, for example!

If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you’ve likely seen posts from mods reporting that their account has been hacked! And then the hacked account has gone on to vandalize the sub and the mod team. =/ That’s no good. 

And while some users might not see the need for 2fa or a passkey (which are available for all accounts now!), if you’re a mod, you should see the need for additional security measures. You not only want your account to be secure, but you want your co-mods’ accounts to be secure as well. 

This is where I segue into inactive mods on your mod team. An inactive moderator account without additional security measures is just as ripe for hacking as a user who isn’t mod. How often do you check in with everyone on your team? Do you ever remove mods that are inactive, and if so, what period of inactivity is required before they are removed? What about banned mods? When do you remove those from your mod team? 

Finally, have you ever had a discussion with your team about 2fa and/or passkeys? Do you require them for moderators in your communities? What is your approach to proper security for your mod team? We want to hear it!

The most recent has just wrapped up and there's a few hundred license keys + some hardware winners to be contacted.

Would sending personalised DMs via the API or a reddit tool get triggered as spam?

What other options may be available?

At the moment my fall-back is to create a winners thread and send a Community modmail to all users.

Hi everyone, I moderate several mental health subreddits. I learned last week that the Free awards we can use are actually unlimited - this can be very valuable for the mental health community members who need to be shown some love.

However, some of my subreddits support them, but others do not. For example, r/Mentalillness allows awards to be assigned, but r/ToxicRelationships does not, and I checked and r/SuicideWatch does not allow awards to be used.

Maybe it's a setting I'm missing?

PS if you have any free awards, find a subreddit with people who are struggling and go hand some out. Cheers.

Edit - Awards can definitely be used for harassment. It would be great for mods to be able to control how awards are used in subreddits.

So I'm considering submitting a request for an abandoned sub. I've been a mod for a little bit now, but I've never set up a sub or been the primary user responsible for it, so a lot of that is new to me.

I kind of like to know ahead of time what I'm getting into, so my question is - if I acquire a sub through the request process, does the sub just suddenly become live again? Is there any "window" during which I'd be able to knock about and set up rules, auto-mod, aesthetic stuff, before people would be able to jump in and interact?

I'd be grateful just for anyone who's done this before to help me anticipate what to expect. Thanks!

Can someone please tell me the procedure for replacing an inactive top mod? Where do we go to apply?

Hi, I'm experiencing an issue where the Modqueue Nuke feature isn't working for me. I need to bulk remove over 400 reported items, which include both posts and comments. These reports span a mix of active and ignored reports, with some going back 4 to 5 years. Unfortunately, the nuke option fails to clear them. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is there a known solution?
