Do you ever get into the storytelling/rpg aspect? How so? How does that work and look like for you?
Here are a few things I’ve noticed myself doing or thinking as I’ve gone along:
Minsc is always looking for an excuse to use Charm Animal and it’s worked out amusingly a couple times. Minsc does not like it when we have to “put them down“ so sometimes he sends them into the fog-of-war behind us. (Sometimes it breaks at the perfect time to screw with me though.)
When Dynaheir got to learn Identify I (fighter/mage) really oversold how cool it was and lifted all the memorizations from my book to hers.
…May have oversold how cool sleeping in dungeons is to everybody too.
I’m the only one in the party that is willing to carry bandit scalps. (Minsc doesn't care, but Boo objects.)
Imoen might be cracking under the new pressure a tad. She’s a bit of a kleptomaniac, and she keeps running ahead and trying to see how many enemies she can get away with backstabbing before we get there.
When Imoen tries to Hide in Shadows she actually tries to find a shadow to hide in. Like the shadow of a tree on a bright sunny outdoor map. She insists it helps. I remain sceptical…
Jaheira’s kinda preachy. I can’t imagine what Khalid sees in her. I definitely wouldn’t be interested in her. No. No sir. Never gonna happen…

Hi all,
If anyone is interested, I’ve just released a new cross-platform save game editor that works with all the Infinity Engine-based games:
It’s available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, although I’ve only tested it on Linux, mainly with the Enhanced Editions.
It should work with mods too, since it reads the data directly from the game folders.
This is the first release, so expect a few rough edges. That said, it’s served me pretty well so far!
Disclaimer: If you decide to give it a try, consider yourself a beta tester rather than a happy customer! 😄

I guess because I cleared the temple before I had the 3 items…..sucks cuz it took me FOREVER to beat the black dragon.
Is there any workaround? I’m playing on an iPad.

So in remembrance of the 2020s hellscape and the death of Bioware, I figured I would do another replay of BG1+2. The good news being that it has been so long (apparently over 20 years...) that I don't remember a lot of the game aside from the major story beats and that it was an early version of the Bioware fork/join model of story telling.
I vaguely recall it was fairly easy to advance the world state accidentally and miss out on major things?
Can anyone point me at a (preferably low spoiler) guide to missables and points of no return for BG1 and 2? And I'll be playing the Beamdog EEs because I genuinely can't be bothered to set up the unified version of the classics.
Thanks.

In Baldur's Gate 2, Minsc had trouble controlling his anger and emotions, partly because of the trauma of Dynaheir's death, and Keldorn always helped him stay focused. Now in Baldur's Gate 3, more than 100 years later, Wyll is having a crisis of self-confidence, and Minsc talks to Wyll in the same style as Keldorn for Wyll to forget his worries and stays focused.
This is beautiful on so many levels!
ABSOLUTE CINEMA! 10/10!

Hello everyone, just thought I'd do some shameless self promotion for my first edited BG video. It's just a hobby, so apologies for the half-assed quality.
Happy about feedback or any roasting.
Cheers.

Previous sections thoughts:
BG1 Thoughts
Siege of Dragonspear
Kangaxx lol
I played mainly with Jaheira/Neera/Imoen (Nalia)/Minsc (Keldorn)/Mazzy.
This truly felt like an epic. Playing immediately after BG1/SoD, it was top notch. I'm surprised how well they adapted the high-level spells at the end of the game. The journey was well varied, the return from Spellhold story / gameplay felt very tight (which was my favorite part of BG1) and interesting.
The companions were fleshed out significantly more. The banter was fun. Mazzy is literally the most down companion for whatever -- get her a paladin class! Peak BioWare!
It was an incredible journey (sometimes daunting with how much to do) and well worth the play. I find the graphics endearing; the sprites are a ton of fun. Jaheira was remarkably well-written. She was very grounded and the dialogue had me completely hooked in her experience.
The inter companion dialogue they added was amazing, too! Aerie and Jaheira's dialogue were killing me at the start! And Mazzy always coming in as a certified homie. I'm genuinely impressed with the content.
The world presentation makes me interested in the Drizzt books and whatnot. I don't know much about a lot of these famous characters but I can feel they're legendary.
Excited to get into Throne of Baal. I'm curious what types of enemies I'll fight. I can't wait to how much more bonkers it can get! Let me fight Bhaal!

Doing the canon party, including dualing Imoen at 7 to mage.
I’m saving the aforementioned spots to speed her process along. Curious what other places you’d suggest?
I‘m thinking, when I dual her I might swap out the rest of the canon party for Rasaad, Neera, and Dorn for the story content, quest xp, and loot as well.

TLDR: a strat using Imoen to reach chapter 5 while staying under 32k xp, tested on bgee unmodded, insane difficulty, and works with any character, since Imoen is carrying the whole strat and CHARNAME is just dead weight.
A wand-capable thief can do this without Imoen and with invisibility potions, but this strat works for any CHARNAME class.
The cornerstone of the strat is to avoid recruiting any companion except Imoen, dual classing Imoen at level 3, then abusing invisibility and wands to breeze as a party of 2 through chapters 1-4.
Do the easy and safe xp quests like Marl and Melicamp. Avoid big fights, on insane difficulty a wolf can maul you. The goal is to get imoen to thief 3 then dual class her to mage, without basilisks. Just keep grinding easy xp.
Once she is a mage, she can cast petrification protect on herself and on CHARNAME. Then we are off to Mutamin's garden. After using korax to farm basilisk xp, she is a dual thief 3 mage 4 and her thief skills come back. She learns invisibility, she will need it.
Set off to collect wands: ankheg cave, alaric, nashkel. Travel invisibly to both caves, she disarms traps, gets to the treasure, grabs everything, then immediately casts invisibility on herself again, and leaves. She should learn identify so she can cheaply identify her wands.
Once she has wands you go to the nashkel mine and stealth through it without fighting. She needs to disarm traps. Monster summons are enough to get mulahey, though a fireball is the best way to clear his minions and a little paralyzation never hurts.
The bandit camp: same again, without traps. Stealth your way to tazok's tent, stay invisible and avoid talking, go stand by ender san, summon monsters, place them near the ranged enemies, then talk and throw a fireball or 2, congratulations on "clearing" the mines.
Invisibility lets you once again skip past the whole Cloakwood. In the mine, just keep disarming traps and avoid fighting. Davaeorn talks loudly and looks scary but monster summons and the odd fireball are enough once again.
Congratulations! You have access to all the areas, all the shops, and all the companions. CHARNAME is now a world famous mercenary despite having done nothing except walk while invisible and watch Imoen use wands up and down the sword coast.
At that point, have fun! Recruit your favourite party, buy all the stuff you want, just remember to go back to Beregost, Mirianne is getting worried.
Pros:
you get to enjoy late game characters for a mostly full game,
you get to largely skip the no-good-cloakwood,
CHARNAME is not altered in any way by the strat and can develop and become whatever you want, no other characters are affected except Imoen.
Cons:
It's quite a cheesy strat, not how the game is meant to be played, Imoen becomes essentially a single class mage with 3 random thief levels and a shortbow. She is decent as a mage, but hardly the best or canonical lategame version of herself.

I know the franchise from BG3, it was a mistake not to have played the other games before BG3.
Sarevok is very charismatic in BG2, I already liked his 80s villain style in BG3. I'm really enjoying his progression as a character in BG2. But just knowing that Minsc says he tried to help Sarevok, but he was rude with him and Sarevok was not satisfied with being an ordinary human and back to Bhaal ruined the whole experience to me playing with Minsc and Sarevok in BG2.
I will tell all my contacts to not make the same mistake as me.

Hi,
If import a character of (say) level 9, do the creatures you encounter scale accordingly?
Thanks

Asked a few days ago what weapons you got the most mileage with in ToB.
Now I’m curious, coming fresh out of the dungeon into Athkatla, what weapons/items do you aim for first?
What are some good, early, easy, grabs to bridge the gap before getting the stronger items?

I’m doing another play through BG1 and now in BG2
Im playing a Skald.
Then I have
Keldorn
Anomen
Jaheira
Arie
Jan
And I’m just so attached to my people this far I don’t know how to make room for anyone else. Came across Mazzy and would love to add her…have never had her in my party but I just can’t pick someone to kick out…honestly wish I could opt myself out! Haha just so many great characters in this series.
Have beaten BG1 many times over the years and have gotten deep into BG2 so I’m determined to get through now and ToB before finally getting into BG3.
Just had to share. Deep in this one and just haven’t connected with…myself.

I don't quite get this quest. You have these two pedos perving on these little girls, but you're supposed to kill one and not the other? What makes Voltine any less creepy than Gervisse?
Anyway, I always kill them both, just to be safe.
