Our AD&D 2e Character sheet

Post image
66 Upvotes

Had some interactions online recently and there was a fair amount of curiosity about the way we play, the systems we use, our homebrew and of course, our myriad of character sheets. Thought some of you might get a kick out of taking a look. This is our main sheet, though there are multiple others we use too

AD&D2e Twenty more new magic items for AD&D 2e...

As promised, I am sharing volume two of the library of new magical items I have been working on. The linked PDF contains twenty new items; some are combat-oriented, some are utility items, others are more for roleplay or world building.

All of these items are designed for my own campaign setting of Audalis, but can be easily dropped into any world or game.

This document includes three Anathari devices - the Anathari are an ancient lost empire in my world. Their magic works differently than contemporary magic, and may include elements of lost technology, as well. Generally speaking, these are more "quality of life" items as opposed to flaming swords or wands of power, although there are exceptions.

I hope that you enjoy!

I will share volume three sometime soon.

Starter Box 3e Adventure

Hi all,

I just got my hands on the German edition of the 2000 D&D 3.0 Adventure Game box (orange box, "The Adventure Begins Here!", published by Wizards of the Coast, in Germany by Amigo). It comes with Tordek, Jozan, Naull and the other pregens, plus the counters and a fold-out map.

The adventure book doesn't seem to have a title of its own, so I can't find much online. Has anyone here run or played it?

I'm looking for:

\- actual play videos, blog posts or session reports

\- opinions on how good the adventure is

\- tips for running it (pacing, tough encounters, anything you'd change)

Any links or memories are welcome. Thanks!

AD&D2e Kigariss, the Horrible Goose

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like for you to meet Kigariss.

Kigariss is a goose that accompanies the party that I DM for my kids. The players discovered this regular old goose - fully white, with one odd black feather on his neck. The goose took a liking to them, especially to Br'kar the kazari (felanoid) fighter, who gave it treats and pretended that the goose was a great warrior. As a joke, they named the goose "Kigariss" after a legendary dragon who was slain centuries ago after being a menace to the five kingdoms for many decades.

The goose followed them everywhere, even joining them in combat - where it inflicts at most 1d2 damage. Alas, Kigariss the goose is far braver than he is wise; the goose joined them in fighting binderaks (sort of cross between spiders and crabs, but the size of large dogs) one fell day, and he was slain in the battle, much to my players' dismay. They felt guilty, the players were genuinely upset; their characters built a small rock cairn and gave the goose a funeral.

Remember, this is Audalis - death is almost always absolutely final. Ressurections are the stuff of legend. You can imagine their surprise when later that evening, the goose waddled up to the campfire, honking for a treat.

The goose has since died two other times, including one time fighting a summoned demonic creature that it could not hope to injure. Each time the goose dies, it reappears shortly after.

The party tried locking the goose up in a building. Again, it appeared back with them shortly after, even though a goose obviously cannot open a barred door.

The goose has been part of hijinks, once chasing the cidal (halfling) around noisily to create a distraction for town guards while the kazari snuck in.

They detected evil on the goose - nothing. They used detect magic on the goose, and the wizard was baffled. The way I handle detect magic is that everything in the world has an aura - nonmagical creatures and items are still visible, they simply radiate no magic. Magical items, enspelled creatures, etc. radiate magical auras that vary in strength and type.

Kigarass the goose has no aura whatsoever. Under detect magic, he appears to be a goose-shaped hole in reality. Our wizard had never heard of such a thing.

The party took him to a powerful diviner. The diviner was even more upset - he had never perceived anything like it, felt that it was an affront to how the universe functions. Anti-magic fields have an aura, even wards that block divination have auras - Kigariss just doesn't seem to exist *at all* to any sort of divination magic. The diviner demanded that they leave and take their goose abomination as far from him as possible.

The goose continues to accompany the party. He has not scaled; he does not inflict more damage. He can still die - not that he stays dead. If the party forgets about him, he usually does nothing to draw attention to himself, but anytime anyone asks where Kigariss is, they look, and he has been waddling around the entire time; even if they are in some underground crypt, or have climbed some cliff, he is there.

The real story is that Kigariss is a creation of Thrikell, the lesser god of mischief. Thrikell loves nothing in the world more than a practical joke, and to him, an unkillable goose that cannot be prevented from rejoining the party is a wonderful joke. It delights him to no end when they seek some grand reason for the goose to exist, when they spout never-ending conspiracy theories as to what he actually is - there is a lot of support around the table for the idea that I as the DM influenced them to name the goose after a legendary dragon because he actually *is* that dragon (or another dragon) in polymorphed form, and the dragon is toying with them. Mind you, I did no such thing - they asked for the names of some dragons on their own, and picked the name (without my influence) as a joke.

Kigariss has accompanied them for more than three years of real world time in various sessions. He has become their mascot; they are certain that he holds some terrible secret, but now figure that they can't do anything but wait for the reveal. Meanwhile, they are providing ongoing amusement for a trickster deity.

And a goose believes himself to be a terrifying beast of legend.

Kigariss the goose battles enemies while Alfedor, paladin of Solanis (god of light, life, the sun) and Vicky, cleric of Shinara (luck, fortune) try to keep up.

My girlfriend’s dad gave me all of his 90’s DnD stuff. The Campaign box set has battle maps, posters, character art for the NPCs with their character sheets on the back, side quest books and a lot more. The Master Mage sets have all the pieces in the original plastic. He said he hopes I get some good use out of them, safe to say I’m a part of the family now. By far the coolest gift I’ve ever gotten.

AD&D General Polypropylene bag size / recommendations for storing softcover modules & box sets? 10x13" bags work great for hardcover sourcebooks, but don't fit skinny modules / fat box sets very well.

I've recently started moving my 1e-5e collection into polypropylene collector bags; I've been using BCW 10"x13" storage bags for hardcover sourcebooks and very beefy softcovers (128+ pages) - the BCW bags accommodate books up to ~ 1.25" thick comfortably ( ~ 32mm) and ~ 1.5" ( ~38mm) as a tight fit. Whilst they work great for your average hardcover sourcebook, they're much too thick / deep for storing individual softcover modules & accessories, which are often only a tenth or two tenths of an inch (several millimetres) thick.

I have dozens upon dozens of 32-96 page softcover adventure modules and they just swim inside the BCW bags - I could fit half a dozen+ 32 page modules into a single bag. Just trying to find a better fitting option for all the skinny books.

Exact same problem for box sets, except in the opposite direction - a few of the box sets (Dark Sun modules like Freedom, Black Flame, Road to Urik etc) are skinny enough to fit perfectly into the 10x13 bags, but most - like the various Campaign Setting box sets, Menzoberranzan, Spellbound, City of Splendors etc - are all quite thick at ~ 2" + (5mm +).

(I'd happily to accept recommendations for a particular item / brand, although I am in the UK so some might not be available). Thanks!

Greetings, travelers! I didn't introduce myself last time, but I am Oac the thief. With me are Althea the Magic-user, Raewyn the Druid, and Arhmin the Dungeon-Master. We have a few other characters such as Agate the Fighter and Valeria (another fighter) whose players haven't been able to make it for a while, so it's mostly been the 3 players + DM for a while.

We play in the Wild Coast area of Greyhawk and are currently in the town of Wyvernen, investigating a nearby stone quarry that has had some mysterious goings-on. We've investigated the quarry twice for information, and we'll (hopefully!) head back in the next session to stop whatever is going on there once and for all.

We play on Sundays at 12 PM NZT (UTC +12), which will be in roughly 23 hours from this post. We don't play every Sunday... busy adults and all that, but we're playing this Sunday, and our DM Arhmin streams the games live on twitch, so feel free to give us a watch if you're around, and hopefully I can do everyone proud!

AD&D General Using Patrons in Adventures - Dwarven Dungeon Blog

The dwarven dungeon is vast, with tens of thousands of rooms to explore. Although exploration can be exciting on its own, having a goal can make players' engagement much easier. To facilitate this, patrons become an important part of the adventure. Patrons ask characters to accomplish tasks in exchange for a reward. Some patrons offer payment to everyone, but some limit quests to certain classes or races. As characters complete quests, they will unlock new quests with greater hazards and greater rewards.

Some patrons start in Thelsberry. They provide quests to help the characters begin their adventures. These help players focus their attention on specific things rather than wander down the rabbit hole of passageways and rooms. Other patrons will arrive in Thelsberry once the characters exit the dungeon with an item. For example, an ancient religious tome might attract a cleric of that god. The cleric might desire more tomes or the location of temples. Their quests might focus only on clerics. Or artwork removed from the dungeon might draw a collector who will purchase paintings, tapestries, and the like at a higher rate from any group that finds them.

As buildings are built and new shopkeepers arrive, new quests might become available. The alchemist will commission adventuring parties to find components they need to make potions. By finding and selling the components, the characters not only get paid for their discoveries but unlock potions they can purchase. Even the thieves' guild, which will form over time, might offer to buy poisonous molds or venom sacs that they can turn into poisons that thief characters can buy.

Patrons are quest givers, buyers, sellers, teachers, and more. They offer characters opportunities to enrich themselves, learn new skills, and gain reputation as they become legendary heroes. Not every character will benefit from every patron, but a broad mix of quest-givers will ensure that all players can engage and benefit from the dangers they undertake.

AD&D General Help finding an old module?

Hi everyone, I have an unusual request.

When I was 10 years old or so (in the 00s) my father taught me how to play D&D, and let me read his old modules and advantures that he had. Village of Hommlet, Die Vecna, Die!, ect

These modules and books were tragically destroyed in a house fire around 2009 or so. What wasn't burned , got destroyed by water damage from the fire department, so I have no way to access them anymore.

One of the modules that really stands out in my memory was one where the players are in... I think the setting's equivalent of The New World, or a continent that was only recently discovered.

Anyhow, the thing that burned this into my brain was that in the module, the players enter a tavern and encounter a juggler who is juggling three live rats. The juggler tosses the rats to the players as they enter, and if the players manage to catch a rat they get some kind of blessing?

Does anybody know what module this could be? I'm sorry if this is jumbled or vague - it was literally around 23 years ago, I think, and I was a little girl at the time and just the memory of a juggler juggling rats and the players getting a blessing if they catch them has stuck in my mind for literally over 20 years.

Edit: it is either from ebberon and 3.5 in "Prophecy's Unwitting Servant" where the players encounter a urchin juggling rats, or %he New Easy to Master Dungeons & Dragons Game (Black Box) that also has someone juggling rats, and you do get a blessing for catching them.

Weapon Specialization: Is it OP?

Many of you helped quite a bit in my last question so I figured I'd ask this to you all as well. As mentioned before, I'm a returning DM who hasn't played tabletop AD&D in many years (we are using 2e). I allowed weapon proficiencies and weapon specialization as I'm familiar with them, especially from the old AD&D PC games, which I still play.

However, I'm wondering if specialization is really too strong. The fighter in our group is getting a +1 to hit, +2 damage as well as a starting 3/2 weapon attacks for his specialization. This just seems outrageous to me. Considering that a fighter already gets a strength bonus, I'm curious as to why the specialization gives so many bonuses. The Berserker in our party has a 18/45 strength, so his bonuses are really through the roof, especially if he goes berserk, although berserk has negatives along with it so I feel it's more balanced. I also see no reason why he would even use another weapon other than the broad sword, which he is specialized in.

Does this even out more later in a campaign, at higher levels? It seems quite excessive to me thus far. Do other DMs here opt to modify it or simply not use it?

I definitely want to keep proficiencies and specializations in the game but I'm wondering if specializations need to be tweaked a bit in order to make them more balanced.

Thank you again.

AD&D2e Twenty new magical items...

I have been working on a library of new magical items. The linked PDF contains twenty new items; some are combat-oriented, some are utility items, others are more for roleplay or world building.

All of these items are designed for my own campaign setting of Audalis, but can be easily dropped into any world or game.

This document includes five Anathari devices - the Anathari are an ancient lost empire in my world. Their magic works differently than contemporary magic, and may include elements of lost technology, as well. Generally speaking, these are more "quality of life" items as opposed to flaming swords or wands of power, although there are exceptions.

This is volume one - I already have completed volume two, and have a ton of other items in the brainstorming phase. I hope that you enjoy.
