Borders/Visas Proof of accommodation for entire duration of stay

Post image
14 Upvotes

Trying to get my Thai tourism visa at the moment and I plan on staying for 2 months, but they have just sent me an additional information request for proof of accommodation for the entire duration of my stay.

I dont want to have to book every place I plan on staying for 2 months as I will be moving around a lot on plans might change in that time, so is there anyway around this? Should I just book a cancellable accommodation for the entire duration then cancel the booking when I arrive in thailand or is this going to cause me problems?

(OP) Chiang mai has a special place in my heart. Though people usually skip this place, i would recommend this over other mainstream places.

Bangkok/Middle Bars In Bangkok Showing Evening EPL Games

• Upvotes

Are there any bars that would show games that kickoff at 20:00 in the UK. If not, how likely is it that my hotel room would have a channel that would show it.

So I’m an Everton fans and the games are Friday night and Monday night games, that both have 20:00 kick off times in the UK.

Bangkok/Middle New Years Eve in Bangkok

• Upvotes

I (M30) am solo travelling for a month around Thailand and Vietnam. I land in Bangkok on Boxing Day and will spend New Year there too.

I’m travelling solo and looking for any advice on what I could do? Has anyone done New Year’s Eve before in Bangkok? Any advice or should I use the days between landing and New Year’s Eve to experience New Year’s Eve somewhere else?

Any advice appreciated

Currency Bringing cash vs using ATM's

I see a lot of Americans on this sub that have questions about bringing cash and exchanging it. I also see a fair amount of Americans exchanging cash at the exchange counters now that I am here in Thailand.

Personally I chose to open an account with Schwab beforehand to take advantage of their ATM fee refunds. I have been able to pull out small amounts of Bhat whenever I need it and not worry about the fees as they are automatically refunded the next billing cycle. I feel like this is the best choice for me as I don't like carrying lots of cash on me. Schwab isn't the only bank in the US that does this either.

However with so many Americans opting to bring their entire vacation's worth of cash and exchanging it at a counter, it makes me wonder if I'm actually missing something and paying more than I should?

Other My first trip to Thailand - Need advice!

Hi all,

I hope everyone’s doing great! Like the title says, I’m going on my first trip to Thailand this December for my birthday and am very excited about it. I’m literally crying of excitement while redacting this post! I already have the itinerary as I will be going solo but will be joining a group tour travel company. I definitely want to travel with a carry-on and a backpack. However, I always end up overpacking. Can’t help it. I’m very looking forward to this trip. I really need the relaxation and the adventure. It feels so good to have something to look forward to, especially when you’re struggling with other things that no one sees. I’m glad that I’m able to do this for myself. I’d appreciate any kind of advice. I can’t wait to explore Thailand, the culture, the food — even though I’m a picky eater, so that’s going to be interesting. This is going to be my first time in Asia. I’m trying to get everything ready and make sure I do not miss the essentials. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Samui/Tao/Phangan What island to go to with family?

Hi all,

This January I'm going to travel Thailand with my mother (60+), brother (30+) and girlfriend. We want to go from Bangkok, to Chiang Mai, to Khao Sok and then to an island. We're looking in the direction of Koh Samui or Koh Pha Ngan - but any recommendation is welcome.

I was wondering, which island would you recommend? We prefer a beautiful island that isn't too touristy/party like but where the focus lies on nature, relaxing and unwinding. I've been to Koh Lanta already but didn't have that 'tropical' vibe to me which I'd love to have this time.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Bangkok/Middle An unexpected stop on our Ayutthaya trip 🐍

Filmed this during our Ayutthaya trip. Locals spotted a snake in a tree and called for help. These guys came and took it away while we stood there watching 😅 Definitely wasn’t on the itinerary.

Anyone know what kind of snake this is?

Transport/Itineraries DMK to BKK on a Sunday Evening

Due to some flight cancellations and subsequent re-bookings, my wife and I are flying into DMK (from MLE) on Sunday 13 Dec with a scheduled arrival of 18:55.

We have a flight out of BKK with a scheduled departure of 23:15 that same evening. We were originally going to fly MLE -> BKK but that's the flight that was cancelled.

We're getting mixed messages from various sources on how likely we are to make it to BKK in time for our next flight. These aren't on the same reservation so we're in a tough spot if we don't make it.

If we will not need to collect baggage at DMK (carry-on only), will we be okay? I've also read about some expediting services at DMK that can get through immigration/passport control quicker but am not sure if that's even worth it? We don't mind spending the extra money if the time savings will be significant.

We're flying business class out of BKK so it sounds like we will have expedited check-in available to us once we get there.

Thank you, sincerely, for any advice, recommendations, etc.!!!

edit: I searched for "DMK to BKK" in this sub before posting and most threads were at least 1-2 years old - apologies if this is asked over and over again...

Samui/Tao/Phangan Going to Thailand with a clear return project but no return ticket - is it safe?

Hello! So I'm going to Thailand for the first time in a few weeks (Eeeek! So excited!), and I'll be staying in Koh Phangan for about 25 days. I know which date I'm leaving on, or at least planning to, but it will depend on the ferry, and therefore the weather, so my preference would be to book a flight directly from the airport the day of my departure, but I heard this can be an issue with Thai TSA when I arrive, is this true? I just don't want to book a flight in advance and ending up missing it because of possible ferry interruptions. :/ ... Thoughts?

Transport/Itineraries Mukdahan, Chiang Mai, Koh Lanta Recommendations

First off, I know we're doing too much in Thailand. Trust me, if it was up to my wife we'd be attempting a lot more but I've got her to skim a lot off.

We fly to BKK then Ubon & drive to my wife's mothers hometown of Mukdahan for 3 days. I've heard there's a lovely river walk there & also a massive Buddha/temple on a hill. Anything else I should do there?

Then, after a couple of days in Luang Prabang & a 2 day river cruise, we'll end up in Chiang Mai for 3 days. I love walking about so will be doing that but is there any recs for there? My wife is American born but very in touch with her Thai & Lao routes & wants to visit temples. She is fluent in both languages.

Then it's my part of the trip. We fly to Krabi & spand 6 days on Koh Lanta. I would love to do at least one boat trip visiting islands.

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses & thank you as well to the people telling me we're doing too much. I know but she wants to cram as much as she can in. It's her way.

Regards

Bangkok/Middle Thailand for 8 days in February 2027 — Bangkok + Pattaya, or better alternatives?

Hi everyone!

We're an American family of three planning an 8-day trip to Thailand in mid-to-late February 2027. We're a couple in our late 50s and our daughter in her mid-20s.

We're looking for a mix of culture, history, nature, scenic experiences, good food, and some relaxation. We don't want a hectic itinerary with too many hotel changes, and we'd prefer to avoid places that are overly crowded or touristy.

ChatGPT has recommended spending a few days in Bangkok and then traveling to Pattaya by road. However, I've read mixed reviews about Pattaya being crowded and overly commercialized, so I'm wondering whether there are better alternatives.

A few other considerations:

  • Chiang Mai: We've heard that the seasonal smoke and air pollution can be an issue in February and March, so we're hesitant to visit.
  • Phuket: We've also read mixed reviews about the crowds and some of the nightlife and adult-tourism scene. We're not particularly interested in that atmosphere.
  • Transportation: We'd prefer not to take domestic flights within Thailand. Ideally, we'd travel by road from Bangkok, preferably no more than 3–4 hours each way.
  • Pace: We'd like to spend time exploring two places rather than rushing between several destinations.

A few questions for those familiar with Thailand:

  1. Is Bangkok + Pattaya a good combination for our family, or would you recommend somewhere else?
  2. Are there better alternatives within a 3–4-hour drive of Bangkok that offer beautiful scenery, nature, beaches, cultural attractions, or a more relaxed atmosphere?
  3. Would Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi, or another destination be a better choice?
  4. Given our interests and the time of year, how would you divide eight days between Bangkok and another destination?

We realize that every destination has its touristy areas, and we're not looking for somewhere completely undiscovered—just somewhere enjoyable, with a good balance of culture, scenery, and relaxation.

I'd really appreciate recommendations based on your own experiences, especially from people who've visited Thailand in February. Thanks!

Transport/Itineraries Planned 20 days in January. What would you change?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all! I am planning 20 nights in January. Route as it stands:

9–11 Jan Bangkok (2)

11–12 Jan Night train to Chiang Mai (1)

12–16 Jan Chiang Mai (4)

16–18 Jan Khao Sok (2)

18–23 Jan Koh Lanta (5)

23–24 Jan Ao Nang (1)

24–25 Jan Railay (1)

25–26 Jan Ao Nang (1)

26–29 Jan Bangkok (3)

Full trip:
https://www.gowaypost.app/share/2de2640d-b4f4-43b6-a933-40d6cd27cb17

Where I could use your advice:

  1. Ao Nang > Railay beach> Ao Nang is three hotels in three nights. Would that be oo much of a hassle?

  2. Khao Sok > Koh Lanta. How long does that actually take door to door, and is it a day I should be planning around?

  3. Is 5 nights too many on koh Lanta? I plan on 3 days of diving.

Any other advice is welcome as well!

Transport/Itineraries Trying to get a sleeper train 3 weeks ahead. Are we too Late?

Hello everyone, my gf and me are trying too get over Night sleeper Train Tickets from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We do not even care which class it is as long as it is not a regular seat. Departure would be 17th of November (I know, that we are late). Right now they seem sold out on every website I found on Reddit. Are there restocks of claimed tickets and should we try to get some or should we not bother and book a flight instead? How is the Chance to get a ticket on the day at the Station? For us the train experience and ecological aspects are more important, but do we still have chance for a train?
