Movies I wanna rant about how Brand New Day depicts Jean Grey as a villain.
BND is my favorite Spider-Man movie but I honestly hate how Jean is portrayed as a villain. This isn't about her characterization, it's about how her character is portrayed and how they want us viewers to view her.
At the end, she's depicted as somewhat of a sympathetic villain with the reveal that the DODC tortured and killed her sister but throughout the entire movie, she was 100% fucking evil. Up until we found out about it, Jean did genuinely vile shit and most of it was purely for the love of the game.
If they wanted her to be a sympathetic villain then there should've been setup, she shouldn't have done shit like rig a tank with a giant bomb and drive it through a building, try to kill a guy by jumping off a rooftop, walk into traffic as another guy getting him ran over, or jump off another building as MJ after messing with Peter emotionally. They could've hinted at some form of goodness in her as foreshadowing like making all her violence only directed at Damage Control agents, keeping her locked in only on finding V-Max, or just making sure civilians weren't hurt but NO, she made sure to be as malicious as possible.
She seemed to enjoy fucking with Peter while possessing MJ and she was smiling when she got that old dude get run over and as well when she tried to jump off the DODC building as an agent. If she was grieving and out for revenge, it should've been directed solely on the DODC but again, she was straight up fucking evil, there was nothing in the first 90% of the movie that setup any kind of future redemption or showed that she could be a good person.
The scene with Aunt May in Peter's memory was genuinely beautiful and heartwarming but I can't help but think of her actions throughout the movie and I'm honestly worried on how they'll do her in the new X-Men movie.
