AMA [AMA] Developer of T.W.I.R.L. here, a psychological horror game about identity, self-worth, and growing up in 2006. We just launched today on Steam. Ask me anything!

Hi r/Horrorgaming!

I'm Ben, the creative director of Genie Boy Games. Today, we're launching T.W.I.R.L. on Steam!

T.W.I.R.L. is a first person psychological horror game from the perspective of a 9-year-old boy in 2006 waking up in the middle of the night from a dream where some "thing" - maybe a demon - commanded him to get out of bed, go into the room down the hall, and "T.W.I.R.L." - whatever that means.

What proceeds is a series of loops where something evil draws us through this routine, changing us and the environment upon every loop, unveiling the life story of a boy who grows up maintaining a deep, dark, and potentially sinister secret.

The game takes inspiration from movies and games like I SAW THE TV GLOW, SKINAMARINK, GONE HOME, and of course, P.T.

It was made as part of a David Lynch-themed game jam for the Haunted PS1 Community, and was published under their new "Haunted Publishing Syndicate" brand!

This is our studio's first game, and we are excited to finally share this story. The journey of sharing of our game, and talking about the themes and meanings within the story has been emotionally challenging, but tremendously fulfilling. Let us be the first to admit - this is an odd story to debut with. And it's something we get reminded of especially when trying to explain it to people without giving anything away.

We hope that T.W.I.R.L. inspires players with a feeling of reassurance, hope, and a better understanding of self.

Game-related questions are optional, but encouraged.

Here's a free code to redeem the game! 84658-6LY40-J8TAJ

REVIEW Hellraiser was so good I feel the overwhelming urge to talk about it.

I was never a fan of the RE style games; the endless meandering while searching for resources, constant backtracking to complete puzzles and move forward In the game. I've also never consumed a single piece of hellraiser related content in my 26 years on this earth.

I don't know what it was that lured me in to pick up a copy, but after fighting tooth and nail to find a physical copy in town I was absolutely hooked.

The scenery and atmosphere, the sound design, even (for the most part) the voice acting was just so engaging. I'm normally the "cut to the chase", run through the entire story on the first playthrough and come back to it for a more involved playthrough next year, type of guy. But I found myself exploring every last inch of the map, reading every note and listening to every voice memo. Sometimes even just pausing to take in the ambience in some of the more open sections.

Playing this on hard the first go round was a choice, and a choice I regretted many, many times. But now that it's over I'm so glad for every moment I got my ass handed to me and was ready to spike that controller (there were several). The entire 18 hours over the last 2 weeks felt like such a complete experience, unlike some unrelated genre games I've played more recently.

The devs definitely used some unnecessarily bullshitty combat sections to force resets and pad the play-time, but for as much as that bothered me in the moment; in hindsight it made me appreciate the advancements in the story that much more when I finally got through.

50$ I'd spend again, and this will be a Halloween replay next year 110%. Now to immerse myself into several decades of hellraiser media, apparently. Lol.

If you can handle gore, seriously, buy this game. My favorite horror experience since outlast.

I made BROKEN, a short PS1-style psychological horror game set in a dark, blood-stained maze.

Find 5 hidden pages, avoid the creature hunting you, and reach the exit. But not everything is what it seems.

🎮 Play for free in your browser: https://dikapurple.itch.io/broken

I'm a solo developer and would love to hear your honest feedback!

PC We're building PARAXIMA around a simple idea: the Entity has rules, but nobody hands you a manual.

Your team has to observe its reactions, test theories and work out what makes it hostile. Sometimes that means deliberately provoking it just to confirm a suspicion.

We wanted horror where a scare can also be a clue.

Do you prefer horror games that explain their mechanics, or ones that make you figure everything out yourself?

Horror games with combat

Saw an older post but would like to know if there are any good games that came out in the last few years. I know the basic, Resident evil, silent hill, Alan wake and the evil within. Liked them all so curious if you could recommend me something similar

Which 2 of these should I get?

These titles are all on sale at the moment and I'm thinking of getting two of them, they are:

Cronos, Visage, The Séance of Blake Manor, Tenebris Somnia, Martha is Dead.

I was also thinking that if I didn't buy Visage and Martha they might still be impactful if I watched a non-narrated let's play, would this be a bad decision?

My favourite horror games ever are: Resi 4, Resi 1, Resi 2, Silent Hill 2, Silver Pines and the game that made me feel the most uneasy was P.T.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

DISCUSSION Eclipsium is worth your time.

It's a simple puzzle and walking sim game, but damn does it do surreal and fever dream well. Its gorgeous, creepy, unettling and the music and sound design are fantastic. I will be listening to these tracks when im not playing.

if you want sometging deeply symbolic thst you can chew on for a moment, id really reccomend it. I just finished it, and while it didnt burn down the indie house and build anew, it was very, very well done.

i give it a 4/5.

REVIEW ANOMALITH Review for the PC - 8Bit/Digi

For horror gamers who have been yearning for a Parasite Eve style game, ANOMALITH has been the closest we have gotten so far. It's rough around the edges since this is the dev's first time dabbling in the genre but they still did a stealer job and I've had a great time playing it.

Final Score: 7/10

You watch 7 cameras of a cabin, but the thing hunting you is in your room. Within His View is out now

Dev here. This is my first game, I made it solo while studying game design in Prague.

You watch 7 security cameras of a cabin and report every anomaly you spot. In most observation games you do that from a safe office somewhere far away. Here you're sitting in the cabin itself, the monitors show the rooms right next to yours, and something is hunting you in your own room. Stare at the screens too long and it gets behind you, keep turning around and the anomalies pile up.

800+ handmade anomalies, one night takes about 15 to 25 minutes. It's on Steam now, 20% off for launch week https://store.steampowered.com/app/4190900/Within_His_View/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=launch&utm_content=horrorgaming

Happy to answer anything, and if you play it I'd love to hear which scare got you. :Dd

CONSOLE PS5 and/or Switch games that are scary but little to no gore?

• Upvotes

Hey All,

I love games that have jump-scares or have an overall spooky feel like Condemned. I wanted to try Roblox games but my husband asked me to try looking for switch and PS5 first since we already have that. I can’t handle a lot of gore so looking for games without too much of that. Thank you!
