May have, could have, would have, should have. Not may of, could of, would of or should of. Will have, not will of. Dammit people. I teach English as a foreign language, for the love of God stop it.

Why is packaging so loud/pain in the ---?

I mainly notice this at work, but many times at home as well>>>why does every box, bag, wrapper, can, etc. require an act of congress to open, therefore being so loud?

Todays work example: co-worker comes in with McDonalds, getting the stuff out of the paper bag *loud bag noises*, then the wrapper on the sandwich *shuffling the wrapper!!!!*, then more with the paper bag getting napkins, then *bang bang bang* opening the straw followed by the horrible straw into plastic lid *screeeeeech*. One would think that's when the hell ends but no. 20 minutes later is the clean up, balling everything up and putting everything in the paper bag and crunching it all together.

I know someone is going to tell me that i have some sort of a -tism and I don't think that is it. When trying to open a box of sodas we are almost required to punch the cans to break that seal on a 12 pack. In order to open a bag of cereal you have to either pull it apart with the force of the Hulk or get scissors (really!) and pray you have just the right amount of pressure to pull open the bag, but not make the ground a new covering of frosted flakes.

To follow-up, its 2026...can we get "easy open" packaging that is actually easy open, can we get sandwich bag open and closures on cereal, crackers, cookies. Not every fast food bag needs a sticker holding it closed and why is the sticker the only thing that truly does its job? I haven't had a fast food napkin truly clean up a spill in like a decade!

Why is it okay for people to be condescending to me, but if I call them out I am an asshole?

I’m an established adult. I hate when people talk to me like a pre school child and try and give me common sense advice. If it goes on for too long I might say something like “I’m not stupid.” In which case the person patronizing me gets defensive saying they were trying to help.

Sometimes I feel like people themselves make a mockery of their religion

So, there was a Gauri Agman at my cousin's house, and she brought pedhas as prashad. We had dinner, and afterward, I brushed my teeth. When she offered me prashad, I told her I'd already brushed my teeth, so I didn't want to eat anything.

Then she started saying things about how I'd face the consequences for refusing prashad. I don't remember her exact words, but she was being aggressive and using foul language while saying all this in the name of God.

Like, what the actual fuck? I literally just brushed my teeth after dinner. I didn't insult the prashad or say anything against God. I simply didn't want to eat anything afterward. Why did that have to turn into a whole scene?

and this isn't the first time I've noticed people doing things in the name of religion that make me question their behaviour.

It's not just about prashad, either. Forcing beliefs on others, making people feel guilty, threatening them with God's punishment, or acting morally superior because of certain religious practices. People justify so many things in the name of faith.

And the irony is that they do all this while claiming to be doing it for God.

How can you talk about devotion and faith while treating another person like shit over something so insignificant? Does religion really become more important than basic human decency?

I feel like there's a difference between practising your religion and using it as an excuse to control other people.

Sometimes, I genuinely feel like people themselves are the reason their own religion gets mocked. Not because of what their religion teaches, but because of what they choose to do in its name.

People who stand way too close to you

I know in some cultures it’s not seen as bad so they do it in America but it freaks me out when you’re close enough to kiss my neck. I turn around and you’re five inches away. It frustrates me but I try to be understanding, I really do but I don’t even have elbow room. The first time I thought they were trying to pickpocket me. Nope! Just really comfortable in some else’s space.

Neighbours with plants that grow over the fence and become your problem

The shared fence between my neighbour and myself in the UK is a lattice fence. She has a creeping vine planted along it, and as a consequence, it grows through the fence and over the top, I have to cut it back if I want to access the walkway.

My housemate/landlord doesn't do it because he's ADHD as fuck, and 'out of sight, out of mind'. To be honest I don't even think he notices it when he's walking right past it. He just works around it.

We've gotten letters from the postman that have 'please clear your pathway' scrawled on them when I'm away because it doesn't get cut back.

It ends up taking me several hours to do, my back seized up last time, and then the garbage bags take up the front yard because it's London, we can't get to the tip and given the HCOL at the moment, we can't spare the money to have someone come and take it away.

I hate the damn plant and that it's my problem even though neither of the people who live there wanted it.

From GoFundMe to bragging about toys

So a local couple in my sons neighborhood had a fire that severely damaged their home a little over a year ago. Family of 5 with kids aged 14, 11 & 9. They moved into a rental while their house was rebuilt. They posted their hardship & struggles all over facebook for weeks. Someone in their family started a gofundme for them. They received over 200k in donations. It was also acknowledged inntjeir posts hiw greatful they were that they were nearly fully covered by insurance less some deductible cost & each of their employers gave them financial assistance.

They are now posting pictures of their new car & that they paid cash fir it, posting videos of the kids playing the golf simulator they put in their garage, and talking about the cruise they are planning in February.

The husband knew I was a contributor & came & asked me if his wife shouldnt post all of this & if they should be ashamed of what they have now. I said its their money & they can do what they want with it. I dont care what they bought at all, but they could be a little more discreet as there are people who donated to them that arent so fortunate and DO CARE, right, wrong or indifferent.

I told him the early posts about how everything was such a struggle made people feel a certain way & want to help, & now the seemingly bragging posts make people angry they helped you get a new car & a golf simulator when they were only trying to help you get back on your feet.

I thought he understood but then went on a rant himself on facebook about how its none of anyone's business whay they do with their money, no one can judge them for their good fortune, and he doesn't feel bad about giving his family some nice things after they went through a nearly year long traumatic experience.

How would you feel if you donated $50 or $100 or even more to them?

Why do you pee on the seat?

Thumbnail

Ok people, specifically the ones who stand when they pee, why do you insist on peeing all over the seat? You know people sit there and yet it probably happens every single time. Can you not just grab a little piece of toilet paper to avoid touching it or just use your foot to have the slightest bit of common decency? Don’t even get me started on the giant puddle directly below the urinal.

It grinds my gears when people pretend to have issues they don’t

And I’m not talking about people who are just privileged who do genuinely face issues every normal person does then complaining. I’m talking about stuff that feels like someone shouting from a mansion balcony that apartment renting prices are too high. It’s a bit generalised and hard to explain but that’s the best I can do. Because, like, it’s fine that you don’t suffer from that but don’t speak over the people that do and try to farm validation from them. They portray themselves as these little helpless underlings (while also portraying themselves as morally above everyone else who doesn’t agree with them on literally every opinion they have) and it’s even worse if they have a following because if you try to call them out for basically speaking over others who actually do face whatever issue they’re larping, you’re made out to be the asshole by their fans. And yes, I see it most on social media because of course that’s where these things like to gather. I used to think it was mostly confined to twitter users but unfortunately it seems they’ve been bleeding out and infecting the rest of social media.

“ARE YOU OKAY?”

This is such a passive aggressive statement that seems to be gaining in popularity over recent years. I’ve even heard people I know irl suggest it as a “healthy” way to respond instead of clearly setting boundaries or limits. It feels like poor communication, when there are more productive and less passive aggressive ways to address things.

People who go out of their way to tell you how they don't follow news/politics/sports

If you don't follow something, that's fine. I'm talking about people who belittle it, kind of look down ro try to make you feel small about it

Hey can you believe (X event) happened?

Yeah I don't follow the news, I'm too busy with my own life/I have a job/life/kids.

Usually doled out with a smug tone or laughing or rolling eyes emoji. I know one person who gives me the *yawn* 🥱

Did you see Sunday's game?

Yeah, I don't follow sports, who cares about other people playing a game.

Why don't you just play the sport instead of watching it?

Excuse me?

You know the type, talks loud sometimes, needs things repeated. That's me, and Jerry Seinfeld too.

Why do I always have to say “excuse me” when I can't hear what someone is saying? Why? Am I guilty? Did I inconvenience you? “Excuse me? Pardon me? I'm sorry?” Why can't I just say, “Nope. Not loud enough.”

So, as a fan, I gave it a try, just a blunt, “Nope, not loud enough.” It's surprisingly usable in a public-facing service role.

Here's another one. “Hey, use your outside voice.”

In regular conversation, the first one doesn't come across as rude as you might think. The second is bound to draw an eye roll, but it gets the job done. The catch is, they may start talking to you in a loud, slow, mocking tone from that point on. Apparently, if you can't hear them, the next step is to find out if you can understand them.

It really grinds my gears when people hold up the checkout line to slowly decide what extra thing they want

You know what really grinds my gears? I’m standing in a grocery checkout line, ready to pay, and the person in front of me suddenly freezes. They are already on the register, but then they start wondering if they need candy, soda, or a magazine.

They turn around, scan the shelf, take forever to make up their mind, while the cashier and everyone behind just waits. They could’ve thought about this before getting in line. The checkout is not the place to browse and make last-minute decisions.

I’m not mad at small quick add-ons. Grabbing a pack of gum in two seconds is fine. But when they spend 60+ seconds debating random extras, it feels so selfish. Everyone else also has places to go and things to do.

Does this annoy anyone else?

You know what really grinds my gears? Calling your phone’s wallpaper a “screensaver.”

Whenever someone shows me the picture on their phone and says, “Look at my screensaver,” a tiny, deeply unimportant part of my brain starts itching.

Wallpaper is the background image on your home screen or lock screen. Your dog, your kids, a mountain... all wallpaper.

A screensaver activates after a device has been idle and typically displays moving images or patterns. Screensavers were originally designed to help prevent static images from burning into older displays. Think bouncing logos and those endless flying toasters.

Some phones do have actual screensaver features, so yes, a phone can have both. But the photo behind your app icons is your wallpaper. Being on a screen does not automatically give it a job saving that screen.

And because this is the internet: Yes, I understand what people mean. No, I don’t think this makes anyone stupid. I’m also not interrupting family gatherings to deliver a presentation about display terminology. My gears are experiencing a minor grinding noise. The entire transmission has not fallen out.
