So, there was a Gauri Agman at my cousin's house, and she brought pedhas as prashad. We had dinner, and afterward, I brushed my teeth. When she offered me prashad, I told her I'd already brushed my teeth, so I didn't want to eat anything.
Then she started saying things about how I'd face the consequences for refusing prashad. I don't remember her exact words, but she was being aggressive and using foul language while saying all this in the name of God.
Like, what the actual fuck? I literally just brushed my teeth after dinner. I didn't insult the prashad or say anything against God. I simply didn't want to eat anything afterward. Why did that have to turn into a whole scene?
and this isn't the first time I've noticed people doing things in the name of religion that make me question their behaviour.
It's not just about prashad, either. Forcing beliefs on others, making people feel guilty, threatening them with God's punishment, or acting morally superior because of certain religious practices. People justify so many things in the name of faith.
And the irony is that they do all this while claiming to be doing it for God.
How can you talk about devotion and faith while treating another person like shit over something so insignificant? Does religion really become more important than basic human decency?
I feel like there's a difference between practising your religion and using it as an excuse to control other people.
Sometimes, I genuinely feel like people themselves are the reason their own religion gets mocked. Not because of what their religion teaches, but because of what they choose to do in its name.
