Serious Russian propaganda?

I feel like there is a recent trend in playing up animosity between Finland and Sweden online (playing up the abuse suffered by Finland under the Swedish period etc), as well as Finland’s ties to the Nazis during ww2 (especially a thing on Twitter). Has anyone else noticed it or is it just my algorithm? It is in Russias interest to stoke animosity between Finland and Sweden, and the nazi thing is typically Russian, so I’m suspicious. Is there a Russian propaganda campaign ongoing or something?

Edit: fixed a typo

Lost & Found Services are Useless (rant)

Last week I lost my backpack on an HSL train. I know, my fault. It was a long day at work and I just blanked and walked off the train. Lucky for me someone found it, found my ID and managed to get ahold of me online and let me know they turned it in to the security at the central railway station! Awesome!

Except that was last Thursday. Almost a week ago (I know weekends are closed) and still they deny having it. I’ve described exactly what’s in the bag, they do a little typing and just go ‘nope not here’. The office Vantaa doesn’t have it either.

So that leads me to believe that either the employees are just incredibly inept, or someone stole my bag on the back end. It makes no sense for the person who messaged me to lie.

But you can’t convince me that after now almost 4 whole business days no one has logged a fucking backpack into the system. It’s just absolutely absurd. And the fact that they refuse to even go physically look is infuriating. They just type like little bureaucratic sloths and if they don’t see it in their computer it doesn’t exist. This is insane to me.

Tl;dr the lost and found services are a joke.

Edit: I have gone in person 3 times since last Thursday. They have been completely useless all three times.

A new comparison by Eurostat shows that the purchasing power-adjusted disposable income of Finns (including wages, dividends, social benefits, fees, etc.) is on par with that of France, Cyprus, Denmark, and Sweden, when calculated on a per capita basis

Please stop walking your dogs in national parks if you won’t take their shit with you

I spend a lot of time in Nuuksio and Sipoonkorpi national parks. Every time I go I see dog shit and dog shit bags (full of dog shit) left beside the trails.
The idea of national parks (and ALL nature areas) is that You are meant to leave no trace. National parks are protected forests and you are ALWAYS meant to Take your trash with.
Here in Finland we are allowed to walk our dogs in the national parks, as long as they are on leashes and that you will take their shit with you.

I am very tired of carrying other peoples dogs shit out of the parks. Please do not walk your dogs in national parks if you are not prepared to carry their bags of shit out with you.

Edit to clarify: what I am seeing most is poop already in bags left on the trails. Hanging on signs, left at fireplaces, beside the trails, attached to tree branches. Like, really, Why?? Who are you expecting will clean it for you?

Finding Vintage XIT Brand Flats for My Wife

Hi all, this one is pretty straight forward. I live in America with my wife, and she had a pair of the flats pictured above. Unfortunately, we got a dog that loves the taste of leather and decided to destroy these flats. She had purchased them on Depop (reselling app) and we have not been able to find a pair exactly like them since. That was until I found them on a Finnish site called Tori for 3 euro. The issue here is that I am unable to make an account for Tori, and even if I did the seller requests for local pickup only.

I need help, does anyone know where I may be able to find these exact shoes anywhere else? or maybe a workaround for obtaining these shoes from Tori? I did find another finnish site selling XIT brand shoes, but these specific shoes don't seem to be made anymore.

Serious Studying for a truck driver yet I don't own a car. The fuck do I do???

• Upvotes

I'm a foreigner with tilapäinen oleskelulupa, so no opintotuki, opintolaina or any form of loaning. I've got nobody I could ask to borrow a car to drive around for practice. Like, sure I'm a fast learner but that doesn't mean it'll go just fine for me. I NEED to practice more, outside the driving lessons in the truck.

Unless you know how to help or what advice to give, don't bother. I know how tricky this situation is, yet I'm still gonna try and ask around if there's at least something that can be done, because seriously, 10 hours in driving school (for B license) is just not enough. In some countries it is required to drive 40 hours and that is much more reasonable.

If there's seriously nothing that can be done, then I guess "fuck it, we ball". But I'd prefer not to go on about like that and practice properly. The more driving experience the better.

Road rage of bolt/uber drivers. Small rant..

Nowadays, I feel like I'm driving a car in Russia. I leave work at night on weekends by car, and these taxis drive like lunatics. They play on their phones, zig-zag, invade the left lane, and tailgate. The taxi service has decreased in quality a lot. I remember when I arrived in Finland, a nice black taxi greeted us. We felt like president at the back of taxi, while driver had suit etc. Bolt/Uber has been around since people wanted to go from one point to another in a cheapest way. It also gave work opportunities to many. But unfortunately, I feel like we can't use cheapness to justify this nonsense.

Debt collection agency is claiming huge old gym fees — advice on Finnish law?

Hi everyone,

I'm disputing a debt claimed by a debt collection agency on behalf of a gym chain and would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Finnish consumer law.

I joined the gym in January 2020. During the COVID lockdown, I emailed them on 15 April 2020 asking whether my membership could be suspended but never received a response. Their auto-reply said the gym was temporarily closed.

In 2026, one debt agency contacted me about unpaid membership fees from 2022 to 2024: approximately €699 in principal and €1,378 including interest and collection costs. The gym also said they could no longer access historical emails due to a system change.

My main concerns:

  • I was never notified when the gym reopened or when my membership and billing supposedly resumed.
  • I never received payment reminders. I updated my official address with DVV in 2020, yet the debt collection agency was still using my old address in 2025. I only learned about the debt when they contacted my current address in 2026.
  • Despite repeated requests, the agency has not provided the requested details of when and where invoices and collection letters were sent, or a sufficiently detailed breakdown of interest and collection costs.

My questions:

  1. Was the gym required to notify me when my membership and billing resumed after suspension during COVID?
  2. Can collection letters sent to an old address interrupt the limitation period, especially if the creditor could have obtained my updated address?
  3. What information and evidence must a Finnish collection agency provide when requested?
  4. Has anyone faced a similar dispute? How likely is it that the agency/gym will take the case to court?

I'm not trying to avoid legitimate debts, but I don't think I should have to pay substantial accumulated charges without evidence that my suspension request, the billing and collection were handled properly.

Thanks for any advice or relevant case law!

Serious Kalliolan Setlementti Ry Bankruptcy

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hello guys. I'm posting this here to ask if somebody is also studying here. I'm enrolled in a Finnish course with classes on Tuesday and Thursday. The teacher told us she doesn't even know if the next class on Thursday will happen.

As it is, I (and other students) only went through half of the course so I'm interested in getting a refund. I want to ask if there are people in this sub who are also affected and if we can do something together about this (say file a common complaint to the consumer protection or similar). I also want to ask if anyone has gone through the same thing with other schools and what happened with your enrollment and money?

Serious Non-monogamous dating in Finland/Helsinki/Tampere area

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm in a non-monogamous relationship with my partner. I've been having a really hard time finding any success on the usual dating apps (hinge, tinder okcupid..) finding any people interested in non-monogamy.

For my non-monogamous folk or anyone in general, any ideas about communities/events around the Helsinki or Tampere area where similar people can meet? Or how do non-monogamous people meet in Finland generally?

Thanks :)

Second MSc degree for career change

Moi kaikille,

I'm looking for perspectives on how applying for a second masters degree in Finland for a careers change.

I got my MSc in the UK 10 years ago and there it's quite common to go back to uni at a later stage and study something even potentially unrelated to previous studies, if one can demonstrated that they have enough motivation and/or basic knowledge.

I lived in Helsinki for 3 years, I have a MSc in Industrial Engineering and I've been working in Data Science and AI for 12 years but I'd like to get some more foundational knowledge in more "Physical Engineering"-related topics: interesting programmes are for example Embedded Systems, Electronics, Telecommunications, or (stretch) Biomedical Engineering. Of course my study background is in Engineering but it's from quite some time ago, and also foundations are probably not extensive as a BSc in EE.

Based only on what I see on Finnish university pages it seems that they are quite strict about programme requirements, and some even actively discouraging applicants who already have a Master's degree. However at least 10% of my Finnish colleagues seem to be enrolled in their 3rd or 4th degrees at any time, sometimes with very little commitment.

How strongly are the programme requirements usually enforced, and does it even make sense for me to try to bother with the admission process?

Thanks in advance 🙏!

Help required with making a moving decision

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I have to transport some of my furniture and I was thinking of renting out the motonet trailer (image attached). I am open to multiple trips but I want to be sure before booking if its the right decision.

For reference these are items I want to transport.

  • Single bed (90 × 200 cm)
  • Red armchair (large, bulky)
  • Beige armchair (high backrest)
  • Washing machine
  • Office desk
  • Wooden dining set (traditional table and benches)
  • 2 bicycles
  • Miscellaneous small items and boxes

Has anyone used to transport items as listed above or it is not practically possible in this specific trailer. Help would be great! :)

Best roads for driving in autumn? (Uusimaa)

Hi everyone, winter is almost here but I wanted to take advantage of these last days of autumn before closing the car in the garage. This summer I had a lot of fun driving on the porkkalantie. Do you know any similar, perhaps scenic, roads to travel with a small 90's Japanese sports car? Maybe with a few twists and turns. I live in the capital city area, but I can also go out a bit further on Sundays. And if anyone wants to join me for a Sunday outing, you're welcome.
