Work in Progress What do you think?

Post image

1st time I have made an Elizabeth Hartman pattern. I still need to add the border, but that is a tomorrow issue. As someone who has only been quilting for 3 months, I learned alot doing this, and definitely bit off more then i should have. Now I get to figure out what backing to use, the long arm rental is scheduled for next weekend, so shopping after work it is. This is going to my son who lives in Japan, so if anyone has a suggestion on how to not make it super warm, he would appreciate that lol

Work in Progress I was feeling ungovernable and so I made this, but now I don’t know what to do with it. I was thinking a tote bag?

But I have too many tote bags already, yes, it IS possible. Any alternative suggestions? It’s roughly 13”x11” and I am going to add embroidery “become ungovernable” somewhere.

Work in Progress I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the world's loudest quilt top!?

Sometimes you have way too much time on your hands on vacation and decide to test drive a bunch of wild colors in a coloring page, stumble in to a quilt shop, and come out with this arrangement.

This is the Laneways Quilt pattern by Stitch and Yarn co. Due to extreme hubris, I did one successful drunkards path months ago and figured I could do basically ALLL the curve approaches. Overall, I think I did OK, except for those orange bits around the yellow circle in the first column - I didn't get the mirroring right the first time and ended up having to re-cut and re-sew the top half of the circle, but I got it right on the second try after having a deep existential crisis over geometry.

Every color is from the Dimples by Gail Kessler fabric line - the pattern calls for solid colors but where's the fun in following instructions 😂. The finished size is throw-ish size, and my third quilt! I will say, I think being a confident garment maker made this a bit easier since I'm used to making curves straight and dealing with easing in things. I'd also recommend using a pressing ham if you have one, it made pressing the curve seams open a lot easier.

Work in Progress Finished the top.. it’s roughly 90x80 inches..

I’m planning on starting the quilting by tracing all of the Black lines with black thread. Then I’ll figure out how to handle the color sections. I don’t want to do a panto or matchstick quilt as I don’t want to dilute the fabric colors.

Work in Progress Atomic Avenue top finished

Post image

I finished my Mid Century Modern inspired quilt top “Atomic Avenue” by Sam Hunter of Hunter Design Studios. I loved this project from start to finish. I wasn’t much of a FPP person before this, but I have learned to love the method. I did make some changes from the original pattern, such as adding a gas station and a 1966 Corvette stingray. I also added about twice as many little shrubs and trees because they were just so stinking adorable. I only finished very early this morning and I’m too tired to think but I have a big decision to make. how do I Quilt this? My first thought was just an overall Panto mid-century modern quilting background, however my wonderful quilting friends think it screams out for custom quilting . Help me decide please! Than you. I Love this sub.

Work in Progress What color binding should I do? Solid or print?

This is the Peanut Butter Quilt Pattern. I loved how it turned out! Would love feedback on a binding color! I'm kind of indecisive about it. For the backing I'm going to get a solid, or, blender/subtley textured baby blue.

Currently knocking out some more HST’s for what will become my biggest quilt yet.

The plan is 200 x 200 and I’ll add a black border as well to frame the stars and connect the black rows. Found out I didn’t buy enough fabric but thank God it’s only two solid colors 😂

What y’all doing this weekend? Let’s see in the comments! I love seeing y’all’s work 🥹

Work in Progress Never been so glad to finish a top

Post image

I alternate between pleased with the end result and so sick of the sight of it….maybe once it’s back from the quilters, and winter rolls around again, I’ll be happy to see it once more. I foolishly thought it would be a nice break from what I’ve been making. I didn’t realize it has Y seams. Ugh. I’ve avoided Y seams for literal decades. Now I remember why!

Work in Progress Quilt top complete!

This was done as a challenge to improve my accuracy. Worked out around 2000 pieces. Don’t think I will do any more HSTs for a while but really pleased with the final look. Thanks for the encouragement as I went! Really love the backing fabric from Tula Pink that I have chosen. Will post again when I have managed to finish it.

Work in Progress Ugly quilt! (Affectionate)

I’ve been slowly working on this quilt for a while and just got the top done. I’ve been calling it my ugly quilt because it’s meant to look super scrappy and random and clashing. How would you quilt this one? 😅

Edit: Since there's been a handful of people saying they want to make one of their own, I've gone ahead and started working on a doc to show y'all how I did mine. As of editing this I've got the layout and numbers of each block in here! I've not yet put in the quilt math for each individual block but I'll be working on that slowly. If there's a specific block you're looking for let me know and I'll get that one in sooner!

Disclaimer: I am not a pattern writer. All of these blocks are traditional blocks that have been around for hundreds of years. You can find any of these blocks free online, I'm just including the math for how I did them :)

Work in Progress Opinions wanted

Post image

I’m finally almost finished with the quilt I asked for opinions on earlier this year. I have one more ask of you all. The way it is pictured here, the size is perfect for a xl queen. I sort of think the red border on only two sides helps reinforce the pattern. My question is does it look silly with a border only on the long sides. Does it need the border only the short sides as well, even though it would make it comically long for a queen?

My first foray into foundation paper piecing and it won’t be my last! Top is done, still needs to be quilted. I’m thinking of “BOO”s all over 🤔 Also considering a border, current size is 40”x40”

just have to hand stitch the binding down. I kind of wish the binding was as thick as it is before it’s sewn to the back, I’ll do a thicker one next time. went simple on this one so i could get it done before a friend’s birthday but i’ve definitely caught the quilt bug!!! i’m so happy with it :)

After not sewing anything last year, I seem to have gotten my mojo back. Finished BigOwl. Will be a gift to my daughter in November. She loves owls and Lamas. Paper is removed so it needs a good ironing and a backing and off to the longarmer.

Yes, I see my mistake but I don't care. Makes it special 😬😎😜

Haven’t quilted it yet but I have a bit of time since the recipient is still incubating lol

I used jacquard textile paint, haven’t washed it yet but I hear it holds up well. Has anyone used it before? Fingers crossed!!

My mom has been working on this off and on for years. She just pulled it out today and considering Reddit keeps showing me all your beautiful work, thought I'd share. I know next to nothing about quilting, much less paper piecing but it currently takes up almost their entire snooker table. It's huge!

Hello, hopefully this crosspost is okay. I’ve recently started stained glass work, and have been drawing inspiration from quilt tiles. I would love to hear what this community it’s thinks of the blend, and if anyone has some quilt tile patterns they’d think would translate well, I’m looking to make a few more!

Work in Progress When you finish the quilt top and then you see the mistake

Post image
603 Upvotes

I am making this in an attempt to decrease my scraps and there was no planning as to layout, I made 4 squares and then combined them into an 18 square row and then rows were sewed together so anytime the same fabric is touching it was a coincidence. I was so excited to finish the top today, I ironed the whole thing, got my husband to hold it up and... yupp there's a mistake. I'll fix it another day

I'm making this quilt for a family member and just got the individual blocks done today. I laid it out on the floor and I am gobsmacked with how good it looks! I'm doing little dances in my living room so just had to share with someone!
