Work in Progress Finished my ghost quilt top just in time for Halloween. Now to quilt it!

This is the second quilt top I’ve made. First one I will be attempting to quilt myself. The pattern is from Pen and Paper Patterns and the fabric is from Art Gallery. I love the tiny little candy corns! Really happy with how it turned out but I’ll definitely be getting a 1/4” foot bc I cannot sew consistently to save my life.

I’ve got a black and white stripe fabric for the binding and a light gray ghost print from rifle paper for the back. Fingers crossed the quilting goes well!

I took a Landscape Art Quilt class at my LQS, this is the project we started there and finished on our own. SO much fun! (Sorry nothing for scale, it is wall hanging size)

I already have my next project lined up! A beautiful beach sunset. I needed more addictions and projects 😂

Help/Question I inherited an unfinished antique double wedding ring quilt

I’m a beginner quilter, but my grandparents and great grandparents quilted. I was given a box containing unassembled double wedding ring quilt sections that I estimate are no newer than the 1960s.

I would like to finish the quilt but I need some :

- The fabric is hand stitched and very old, could I even try to use a machine for this or should I hand stitch?
- I’m missing the oval sections that would be white, how can I make a pattern for this?
- before I start should I lay out everything I have to get an estimate on size ?

Let me know if you have any advice or guesses in the age of this quilt !

Work in Progress Pieced top AND back 😮‍💨

This was supposed to be a quick finish for the lattice panel I made but never finished… but it turned into all of THIS. I have no idea how I’m going to keep both sides straight and even-ish trying to quilt it on my domestic. Pray to the sewing fairies for me 🥲

The triangles panel on the back are to match the fabric on the front with triangles. That’s a totally normal thing to do, right?

I had a lot of fun with the colors with this one. I started with a layer cake of Bedazzled batiks and thought that leaning into a seafoam for the background would be very fun. I had some leftover yardage from Joann closing that was perfect for the back.

This quilt is staying with ME!

Argh! Working on my first quilt and I just can’t stop…!!

I’m working on my first ever quilt. It’s a baby quilt for a soon to be set of parents in my family. I am having so much fun I can’t do anything else. I’ve tried to get a quilt going before but have either been too busy or have made mistakes that make me disinterested in finishing the project. For whatever reason every step of working on it, from pattern design to piece sewing to attaching the appliqué is a total blast, but I feel like it’s the only thing I wanna do until it’s done! Anybody else get this way with quilting? It’s making me feel crazy — like I have this urge to cancel a date to quilt crazy lol

I had a finish today 🎉 My first ever rag quilt. I don’t think I will ever make one this big again. It hasn’t been washed yet but I just wanted to get a couple of quick pics incase it falls apart in the washing machine lol.
Thank you very much to the folks who helped with my questions about thread and scissors in my previous posts. I found a wonderful pair of scissors made by Fiskars that are especially made for clipping rag quilts and I honestly couldn’t have finished it without them!

Pattern/Design Help Hand quilting ideas and feedback please

I finished the back and front of my first quilt and am now basting it.

The pattern is from quilts by snee, who is lovely.

I know a lot of people just machine stitch in the ditch for this pattern but I love the look of hand quilting and was thinking of doing all the outlines of the skull. Am I being to brave? I honestly just think doing it in my domestic machine will be a pain and I don't want to send it to a long arm because I made enough mistakes sewing it and because of fabric issues I had to buy extra fabric so he's already expensive🤣🤣. But will just doing all the inner and outter outlines be enough? Would that look weird? Is there a great hand quilting idea I am missing? Would you just hand quilt stitch in the ditch?

I was feeling like patterns like the baptist fan would maybe take away from the image on the quilt and make things too busy. But maybe I could do something in the corners? I'm not into spiderwebs but maybe like some crisscross stars?

The first pic is so you can see the whole quilted image but my second pic has the border on.

I was thinking either a white thread cause it would pop some or I could do a grey to blend in more.

All thoughts welcome!

I’m in LOVE with this fabric. This is a fat q bundle but there’s a few colors in there that I just adore. What yardage do you guys usually get in situations like this?

Finished Quilts Two older quilts i have finally unpacked

I was afraid these had been lost in our move. I finally found them almost a year later.

The tan and teal one I intended for my Sister-in-law, but she decided to divorce my brother before it was complete, so I got to keep it.

The christmas one is the only one of my quilts the longarmer offered to give it a good home if I ever decided to give it away. Due to my schedule, she had to keep it for several months and she hung it in her shop for the duration. (With my permission) . She was excited to pass on all the compliments when I finally picked it up.

Pattern/Design Help Quilt pattern help

Hello everyone, I'm new to sewing, and I want to make this quilt for my mother-in-law. This is a quilt her granny used to make, and we aren't sure if there is a pattern or if she made it herself. If anyone has any tips I could use to try to recreate that would be awesome.

Aww Thank you!

I don’t know if you guys remember this quilt? I posted over 2 years ago and was asking how to quilt it.

A lady “musicgirlsmom” or similar username pointed out a few blocks that were wrong. I was annoyed at the time thinking that I had to redo the blocks but I am so grateful to you and I’m sorry it’s taken me ages to post this, (I went a bit MIA off social media) because as it turns out the guy I was with making the quilt for our bed, we broke up around the time it was supposed be finished for.

So now I have 2 quilts of this same pattern and they are both for me!

So thank you so much for pointing out the mistakes because I don’t know what I would have done if I had actually quilted the thing 😂

Help/Question Wholecloth quilting question - found this girl on IG

Post image
131 Upvotes

I found this profile on IG because she was showing her sister doing one of her beginner quilting kits. I was a little confused because it looked like she was just sewing over the lines so then I went to the profile and it said “wholecloth quilting”. But when I looked that up I got more confused. So does this person just have like fabric with a print and they sew over the lines to give it a quilted look? Or am I missing something? I always felt like quilting seemed so difficult and involved but this looks pretty easy. Kind of a middle ground!

Help/Question First Time Quilter Question: Does my Kit provide enough material?

I bought a Quilting Kit and dont want to short change myself when cutting pieces. I'm concerned that I might not have enough material if i just cut out the pieces I need when the instructions call them out.

I was hoping to rough cut the needed pieces larger and then cut down to size but I'm worried I wont have enough material.

Has anyone had problems with running out of material when using Kits?

Post Edit:

Thank you to everyone who read this and provided advise and guidance, I truly appreciate it.

My take away from this is it will be ok to cut these pieces a quarter inch larger than the finished dimensions then cut to final size.

Wish me luck!

Just finished this “reverse Irish chain” quilt from Bits and Pieces quilting. Great use of scraps and should protect my love seat from my scruffy pup and his penchant for backyard excavations.
