Mingalaba / မင်္ဂလာပါ; and welcome to r/myanmar.

If this is your first time on Reddit, you may want to familiarize yourself with Reddit's rules and policies. To make sure you have not been afoul of the rules, please see

A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.

Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.

Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.

Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.

  1. Make sure to label all posts that contain gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW." To see how to do this and for a more detailed explanation click here.
  2. Make sure your posts are on-topic and related to Myanmar. Spam) may go well with anything but it has no place in this sub. Please do not spam us with unrelated content.
  3. Please keep discussions civil. Tolling and racism will not be tolerated. Our situation here is not for your "lulz". Also, keep swearing to a minimum. Although we will tolerate swearing if it is part of the narrative/discussion, personal insults, over-the-top vulgarity, etc., will not be tolerated.
  4. Adding a flair to your posts will enable others to easily find similar posts. Flairs are used to categorize posts to easily be found. Click here for more details.
  5. Keep reposting to a minimum. Please check to make sure you don't repost news and pictures that have already been posted. r/MAGIC_EYE_BOT and u/DuplicateDestroyer are trialed to help remove duplicate images. Please reply to the bot or send us a message if the bot got it wrong.

For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.

Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.

For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.

Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.

Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.

In summary,

DO

  • Post topics with descriptive subjects
  • Check the subreddit for prior submission of your article or image before posting.
  • Flair your post with the appropriate flair to make them easier to find
  • Upvote posts
  • Tag posts with gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW."
  • Share posts to more than one subreddits
  • Report posts that break our rules or attempt to spam us with irrelevant content.
  • Credit the author of an image or comic

DON'T

  • Post off-topic or spammy posts
  • Spam keywords like "savemyanmar" "wewantdemocracy" in the post title
  • Do not upvote or promote your post with multiple accounts. This is against Reddit's policy and you may end up being suspended.
  • Do not post Myanmar posts on irrelevant subreddits.
  • Post images and articles that have already been previously posted by someone else.

Thank you. / ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်။

Discussion 💬 ⚠️⚠️Blacklist Removal Scam⚠️⚠️နိုင်ငံရေးအမည်ပျက်စာရင်း ပယ်ဖျက်မှုလိမ်လည်ခြင်း⚠️⚠️

English:

Be cautious of ongoing scams regarding "Blacklist Removal Services".

How this scam works:

  1. Scammer posts a personal story followed by a question to provoke discussion, and a brief mention of successfully removing blacklist status.
  2. Scammer waits for victims interested in getting blacklist status removed to explain further or provide contacts.
  3. In DMs, scammer will claim they can help and ask for money upfront.

Safety Tips:

  1. Check the Profile: Always click on the OP's (Original Poster) username.
  2. Account Age: Be wary of very new accounts (created only a few days or months ago)
  3. Post History: Scammers often have few post history or only post the same "success story" across multiple subreddits.

Tribute 🤍 A newspaper from 1945 covering American troops fighting the Japanese in Myanmar during WWII. Interestingly, it refers to the country as “Myanmar” (မြန်မာပြည်), not “Burma” (ဗမာပြည်), 44 years before the official English name change in 1989.

Advice I want advice regarding false pedophile/predator allegations against me.

I know you guys are not lawyers but I just wanted to know what your opinions might be on this situation. I, 17M have been falsely accused of being a “predator” and a “pedophile” by 15F. She directly messaged me on 23/8/2026 and started a conversation, hitting on me in the process. A friend of mine said that she, the 15F is her friend so I decided to follow her back. But after a few days of talking, she posted a picture of me on her social media account with my face and called me a pedophile. She was the one who reached out to me first and hit on me. I also clearly stated that I am not interested in her or have plans of getting together with her when she hit on me. I have all the evidence regarding this situation. I just don’t wanna make this situation bigger and ruin her life and be known for that for the rest of mine. But her sister and someone else have harassed me regarding this situation in my direct messages and threatened to spread it “publicly”. This morning 28/10/2026 at 10:32 am I saw that she had posted a story accusing me of being a predator. After I got news of it I instantly told her to take it down with proof that she was the one who instigated everything. She did but, this evening some unknown person texted me stuff, sexually harassing me. I do not want to make this into a defamation case but I do want her to stop messing with me. I will not be disclosing any personal information so please do not ask me for that. I know people can be emotional and do stupid things but if you accuse me of being a monster, a predator I will not sit back and just let you do that.

Ps.
You probably want to ask me “Well, why would you talk/keep talking to her in the first place?” Yes, that was my fault. But, she was opening up to me about her mental issues and one of them was anxiety. Since I also have anxiety, I felt bad for her and genuinely only talked to her to be a friend because of that.

Tourism 🧳 Mountaineering in Myanmar

Post image
6 Upvotes

There are alpine habitats in Myanmar, and the great >5000m peaks like Hkakabo Razi, and Ganglam Razi.

But why is mountaineering not popular here?

There were only 2 known ascents, only 1 successful on Mt. Hkakabo. It deserves more popularity like Matterhorn in the alps, etc.

I myself is enthusiastic about mountaineering,I dream of summiting our own nation and SEA's highest peak. But,I can never find the proper equipments in the country. There are no climbing courses,(except for the rock climbing gym in Yangon, and Waterfall hill in mdy as far as I know),no shops selling ice axes or crampons(since there's no ice in the mainland)no easy routes to the base camp, the dream is made more impossible with the current conflicts. The closest I can find on the internet is Hiking expeditions to lesser peaks like Phone kan Razi,Madew Razi, and spoken info from my kachinese friend who has been to the base camp by a heli ride.

How should I start chasing this dream?

Should I just first aim for more accessible peaks in the Himalayas before coming back?

Advice What Research Does Myanmar Need Most?

• Upvotes

I’m interested in understanding what areas of research Myanmar needs more of, beyond topics directly related to war or political conflict.

For example, research on economic development, early childhood development, education, climate change, public health, agriculture, or other areas that could significantly improve people's lives and Myanmar's long-term future.

What do you think are the most important research gaps in Myanmar right now? Are there any issues that are overlooked, lack reliable data, or need more evidence to help communities, organizations, or policymakers make better decisions?

I would especially appreciate recommendations for existing studies, reports, or research that could help me explore these topics further. Thank you!

News 📰 Yee Mon Myat isn't the only Burmese athlete excelling in Japan. Her brother Kaung Zan Mara is signed to Machida Zelvia, a football club in the Japanese top division which is arguably the best in Asia. He's 6'3 and plays as a keeper. Born and raised in Tokyo, he wants to play for Japan national team.

The Japanese top division is arguably the best in Asia along with the Saudi League, so it's very impressive to see a Burmese player at that level.

To give you context, Pyae Lyan Aung was a Myanmar national team keeper who was granted asylum by the Japanese government in 2021. He then tried out for a Japanese THIRD division team and couldn't make it. He even said the Myanmar national team would lose if they play against a team from the Japanese third division because the quality is very good there.

Kaung Zan Mara got signed by a team in the Japanese FIRST division. It just shows how good he is compared to the best keepers in Myanmar.

Now 24, he has dreams to play for the Japan national team. It's a very ambitious dream because in the last two World Cups, Japan beat Spain and Germany, and draw with the Netherlands. They are a very good national team.

His another dream is to play for the German giants Bayern Munich one day.

Currently, Kaung Zan Mara has been loaned out to Japanese second division team Vanraure Hachinohe to get some valuable playing time.

Born in Tokyo to a Rakhine dad and a Bamar mom, his parents must be so proud to see both their kids become top level athletes in Japan.

Discussion 💬 Why is arr pu sharr pu rarely in menus?

Do you guys know why arr pu shar puu is rarely available in typical burmese menu? Like, it's available in dedicated shops like Min Lan but not in like shwe pa lin or typical tea shops...

Is it not popular or is it hard to cook or is it ethnic?

If so, mohinga seems harder to cook with more ingredients and need speicifc kind of fish too and Shan noodles are always in the menu even tho its ethnic.

Advice Burmese Palm Leaf book/manuscript. Søren Egerod mentioned in it.

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have this palm leaf scroll/book/manuscript. I think it's Burmese, but not sure. Anyone here that have an idea what is in the text? and if it is old or some newer version of something?

I have two "scrolls" from an estate. The name Søren Egerod a danish specialist in Burmese is mentioned with normal letters in one of the scrolls.

Søren Egerod (1923-1995)

  • The Burma Connection: He was a legendary Danish linguist and Professor of East Asian Languages at the University of Copenhagen. In the 1950s and alternating decades, he traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, including Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, and surrounding regions to study indigenous languages, dialects, and grammatical structures.
  • The Palm Leaf Specialism: During his expeditions to remote areas like Kengtung (Chiang Tung) near the Burmese border, he meticulously collected and preserved ancient texts. He became globally renowned for analyzing and decoding rare bilingual Pāli-Burmese palm-leaf manuscripts and Buddhist scripts. His extensive personal collection of Burmese palm leaves was later curated by the British Library and Danish institutions to aid global research.

The estate is not from Søren Egerod, so what the connection is I do not know.

I hope someone knows something to help me on the road to what i actually have here :)
