Title: Monash Malaysia ECSE — good balance between hardware and software?

I’m considering studying Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) at Monash University Malaysia, and I’d like to hear from current students or graduates.
My goal is to keep my options open for both hardware and software careers. I’m interested in electronics, circuits, embedded systems and programming, and I don’t want to graduate with strong skills in one area but very limited options in the other.

Does the ECSE curriculum provide a good balance between hardware and software?

How much actual programming do you do, and how deep does it go?

What are the job opportunities for graduates in software development compared with hardware, embedded systems and electronics?

If I want to pursue either path after graduation, would I need to do significant extra learning or personal projects outside the degree?
Would you recommend Monash Malaysia ECSE for someone with these goals, or would Computer Science or Software Engineering be a better choice?
I’d appreciate honest feedback from people with experience in the program.

tips Study Tips for Degree

I'm a first year, first sem student studying electronic engineering at USM. ngl, im not the type to consistently self-study everyday, except for doing assignments and tutorials, and im really worried as to what my results for finals would look like. I am really active extra-curricular-wise and im hoping to stay active but that comes with a big prerequisite, that is consistently getting above a 3.00 gpa or for my first sem, a 3.5 gpa.

During my foundation year, I only really studied during study week and I got a 3.44 gpa for that sem so idk if i can or should stick to that plan.

Students of malaysian reddit, I need your advice

general question As a Form3 UASA student, is it OK if I get into the Accounting Stream if I want to be a Data Engineer?

I will get an A in English for sure, and for Mathematics, probably over 55, 66 if lucky, for Grade B? I just know I did all the questions with ease, but I don't know if I did any careless mistakes.

For Sejarah, if I do get full marks in KBAT, I counted the guaranteed marks. If my objectives and other questions are correct, I can get extra marks and get 40+.
Science as well, I counted the guaranteed marks and it's 46+, same as Sejarah if I score extra then I'll get over 50+.
And I know I'm passing BM.

However, my grade has smart students so, 76 will be getting into Science. and 5 competitors that I know of, that means 79 can get in. I don't know where I stand in this case, and I'm not sure what other students may have decided to lock in and take that 80th place.

That is because my Science Stream has 3 classes, 30 + 30 for the two Pure Science, and 20 for the Computer Science. So it's 80.

But I don't know.. if I can get in. My maths are above average, English is A, but Sejarah + Science + Malay are roughly passing...

I want to be a data engineer not for prestige, but I've been passionate for it. Plus, if I'm in Science Stream that means I get the Add Maths, Chemistry, Physics.

If I get into Accounting (Which is a guaranteed. I'm wrestling between Science Computer and Accounting.)
That means it's Arts Stream. It's not a bad thing but not the path I'm going for.
My UASA marks have not come out yet, but this is just my prediction.

So.. just in case, if I do get into Accounting Stream, how should I do this? Focus on studying a lot and score A's until SPM? Hopefully they have Mathematics, I know they have General Science, but is that really enough for my Engineer desire? I don't know much about this, so... please tell me what you know.
If I can still go about that path in Accounting Stream, then I don't have to worry, even if it's not what I wanted initially.

But if it means after graduation, I have to take a one year in Computer Science or Engineering to make up for my Arts Stream subjects (Because I didn't have Add Maths, Chemistry or Physics) It's not going to be good. It costs more, and takes one year? I don't want to be a hassle to my parents... because of money and then having to study one more year because of my stream outcome.

I know time will pass away, but please help me with what you know.

general question As a Form3 UASA student, please tell me about how the stream works.

I read a few posts about Science Stream and Arts Stream.
Some people ask "Should I get into Science or Arts stream?" I'm confused because they can pick. My school strictly needs Sejarah and Malay to pass, and great in Maths and Science.
Now I'm confused, if you pass these subjects, but in batch ranking you're not in rank 80, will you still get in?

For example, you get a high maybe 60+ ish in Mathematics, I don't know the requirements. And pass Science, maybe above 50. Pass Malay and Sejarah.

But others get high marks in Arts, Geography, etc, but lower in Maths and Science, but they come up in rank 77 and you're 83. Who gets into Science Stream?

My school only has 3 classes of STEM, which is sad. Science A(Pure Science) is 30 slots, Science B(Pure Science) is 30 slots, Science C (Computer Science) is 20 slots. Which has me panicking, because I counted the top students, so 74 people will get into Science Stream. And a few competitors, their scores are not that bad, 5 people, so 79 people. There is one competitor inside whose PRA UASA has 30+ Science and Maths, so if he is still bad, I have a chance to get into 78-80th rankings. But I can't guess who might have locked in and got into these rankings.
Because we had a month to prepare, and I heard others say that specific competitor "locked in and wrote a lot on his science paper".

Now I'm stressed, I can't undo my marks, and I don't know how this works. Do I have to fight for rank 80?
My school initially said 25 slots for Computer Science, but it suddenly dropped down to 20 by the end of UASA. And now I'm thinking, what to do? I really want to get into Computer Science so badly.

I don't know if it's different in other schools, they can select their stream? I heard some during SPM even moved from Science Stream to Arts Stream, et cetera.
My Principal, however said "We cannot appeal for the stream because she believes her decision to put us in the streams are correct". So no appeals.

Bachelor degree Has anyone tried getting a credit transfer estimate from Malaysian uni’s through email?

I’m considering transferring to a university here. Before submitting a formal application, I was wondering if anyone has emailed university admissions teams with their unofficial/online academic transcript and course outlines to ask for a preliminary credit assessment?
Basically, I want to know how many of my completed credits could potentially be transferred and how much of the degree I’d have left to complete.

Is it safe to share your online transcript this way?

Anyone here studied Psychology MRes at University of Nottingham Malaysia? How’s the workload?

Hi everyone!
I’m considering applying for the Psychology MRes at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) in 2027.
I already have a background in psychology and am currently completing a master’s degree. I’m interested in gaining more independent research experience before potentially pursuing a PhD.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has studied this programme or another research degree at UNM.
A few questions:
1. How heavy is the workload? Is it stressful?
2. How supportive and accessible are the supervisors?
3. Is it realistic to complete the MRes within one year?
4. How is the work-life balance? Do students have enough free time to enjoy life outside research?
5. Is publishing a journal article expected or required for graduation?
Any honest experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

international student considering nursing at sunway university. is it worth it??

hi! i’m an international student considering studying nursing at sunway university and i wanted to ask a few questions to anyone who’s currently studying there or has experience with the course. do international students commonly take nursing at sunway? and if you’re an international student yourself, how has the language barrier been, especially during clinical placements when communicating with patients? i’m also curious about how the clinical experience is in general, how supportive and good the lecturers are, and whether you feel like the course prepares you well for working as a nurse after graduating. i’m still trying to decide if nursing is the right choice for me, so i’d also love to hear your thoughts on whether it’s worth pursuing at sunway or if i’d be better off looking into something like biomedical science or biotechnology instead. basically, if you could go back and make the decision again, would you still choose nursing at sunway? i’d really appreciate any advice or honest opinions, especially from international students. thank you!!

Monash Malaysia masters

Hi everyone, I’m an international student planning to pursue an MBA as a fresher at monash malaysic University and would love some honest advice on the post-graduation reality. How difficult is it for an international fresher with zero prior full-time experience to land an entry-level corporate or management role ? Specifically, what do the employment outcomes look like within the first year, and are graduates realistically finding office roles or getting stuck in survival jobs? Furthermore, , how hard is it to actually secure employer sponsorship in business and management fields, or do most international grads eventually have to move back home? Would really appreciate hearing from alumni or current students on your actual experiences.

Looking for a Good Therapist or Mental Health Hospital in Malaysia

Hi everyone,
I’m currently looking for a good therapist or mental health professional in Malaysia, preferably at a reputable hospital or clinic.
I’ve been going through some personal difficulties lately, and I feel like I need professional help. I’m not really sure where to start, so I thought I’d ask here.
Has anyone had a good experience with a therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist in Malaysia? I’d really appreciate recommendations, especially places that are student-friendly and affordable.
It would also help if you could share the consultation fees and how to book an appointment.
Thank you so much in advance. Any advice or personal experience would mean a lot.

INTI October Bridging Intake — Are Workshops Mandatory?

Hi!
I joined INTI’s October bridging intake. We have “workshop” classes on subjects like PowerPoint, email writing, accounting etc plus 2 MPU courses.

I know we need 80% attendance for visa renewal, but are these workshops compulsory, and do they count toward our attendance?
For bridging students:
Are workshops mandatory?
Does missing them affect visa renewal?
Are they included in the overall attendance calculation?

Would appreciate hearing from current or former bridging INTI international students. Thanks!
