Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
DISCLAIMER: AI / LLM assisted.
I have been on KDE for year and a half now and it has been so peaceful. I sometimes use my brothers PC for gaming and honestly i do not understand how i tolerated windows for such a long time.
I have started creating scripts and apps for personal use. However, this one i wanted to share.
- Its a Music player with Nice backgrounds, Todo List and a pomodoro timer. - you need to download/provide your own music. (i downloaded 10 12 long tracks from youtube)
- Its made in C++/Qt
I find this useful while studying, maybe you will too.
P.S
- Video Wallpapers has some nice video wallpapers

General Bug Does anyone else have this issue with clipboard contents?
Does anyone else have this issue with clipboard contents where each letter gets added as a new entry as you select some text?
It works fine on my other laptop so appears to be related to my Lenovo L14 thinkpad. It even does the same with a usb mouse plugged in
Question Why do people say that the KDE's user interface is less consistent than GNOME?
NOTE: I'm strictly talking about stock GNOME and stock KDE.
As someone who has tried GNOME and KDE both, I don't really understand what people on reddit mean when they say "GNOME has a more consistent user interface" or "GNOME is more polished". Don't get me wrong, this is absolutely not a hate post on GNOME. I have been a GNOME user for a very long time (still use it on my laptop), I'm mentioning this so that it that gives me some credibility to say what I'm about to say. Almost all posts fail to point out concrete example(s) as to why they think GNOME's UI is more consistent than KDE.
Is simplicity being equated with consistency here?
If not, then I don't really think GNOME and adwaita applications are as consistent as KDE applications.
Most KDE applications tend to have the same the decoration, whereas a lot of GNOME applications are yet to be ported to the GTK-4 libadwaita design (take gnome-boxes for instance). On stock KDE, I have yet to see an application that doesn't naturally fit into the aesthetics of the system. For me, UI consistency is just "having the same aesthetics and experience everywhere", then wouldn't KDE and its ecosystem be more consistent then GNOME's ecosystem?
I did feel like KDE's applications are a bit cluttered at first because of the amount of options available to me and the fact that I'm used to the simplicity of GNOME (I call it simple because it intentionally exposes fewer options to the user and implements limited features in its core applications). However, I don't really think having a lot of settings that the user can change and is natively exposed by the desktop environment makes it any less inconsistent or consistent. I have been overwhelmed by the extent of configurability, sure, but I haven't experienced any noticeable inconsistency on KDE.
What am I missing?
Is my definition of consistency incomplete?
Even libreoffice (which looks quite dreadful in GNOME) looks quite polished on KDE.
GNOME's core applications are highly polished and consistent with the new design but I have noticed more inconsistencies on GNOME than I have on KDE. That's not to say either one of them is inconsistent, both of them are fairly consistent, but it's just that when people argue that GNOME's UI is more consistent than KDE, I don't really understand how or why they think that.
I would like to hear if you have encountered anything that you would consider to be inconsistent on KDE when compared to your experience in GNOME.
No AI was used in the making of this post! (if that matters)

Question Custom Panel Coloniser Preset is inconsistent/buggy
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm trying to use Panel Coloriser to apply my own preset to all my panels. My main bottom panel works perfectly fine, but all my other panels just darken whenever a window gets near them or I enter fullscreen mode.
KDE Apps and Projects I finally open-sourced my personal yt-dlp Plasma 6 panel widget (with native C++ QML plugin)
I decided to start publishing some of my personal tools on GitHub, starting with my favorite panel utility. This widget has been migrating with me from system to system and evolving along the way.
Before making it public, I spent some time rewriting the hacky parts, removing old workarounds, and polishing the UI/installer so it actually works cleanly out of the box on Plasma 6.
It handles video/audio downloads via yt-dlp directly from the panel, supports cookies, format/codec selection, and keeps its own isolated yt-dlp binary updated in ~/.local/share/.
Note on installation: Because it uses a native C++ QML plugin under the hood, it can't be installed via the one-click button. Just clone/download the archive and run ./install.sh (no root required).

Question so uh.. notification sounds in Sounds does not include the system sound of the volume changing...
how do i mute/lower that system sound bell of the volume changing when using fn + f5/f6 or fn + volup/voldown?
oh and KDE, i dare you to incorporate easy effects and lact into your regular release.. yall say you guys have that full feature DE but without easyeffects and some gpu controls (and processor clockspeed adjustment) you dont.
I bet you guys cant program a thermal governor into the power management settings for preventing people's laptops from getting fried or so towers can use high clockspeed settings safely.
and yall saw lilith from ohto121? you realize the desktop is just now starting to scroll and pan as well as zoom. where are you guys on this? you got grid support for workspaces but why are we even using a grid (ok yes alt tab grouping is the answer but still)
Oh i have a question, how heavily can the UI be changed? can i make it look like windows95 x HaikuOS?

Community Content Introducing Better Stickies v1.5 with Wayland support!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey KDE community,
I am happy to announce today v1.5 release, the last major release in 2026!
What it is, for anyone new, basically why do digital sticky notes suck?
Sticky notes are one of the most popular ways to take notes. Whether youāre a scientist, a student, a white collar worker or just watching your favorite show and writing notes to keep up with the plot, sticky notes have you covered. Yet there are no good digital sticky note apps, and before you argue with me and list me some apps,
Here is my definition of a good sticky notes app.
A digital sticky note should be:
- Easy to customize: colors, transparency, size, font, spacing, a custom background or even a moving GIF on my screen, why not? Itās digital, this should be possible.
- Able to capture anything digital: text, links, code, markdown, rich text (web), files, folders, audio files, or anything, itās digital!
- Easy to access: I need my sticky notes around me when Iām working, switching apps or in full screen. Why canāt notes show in full screen on macOS?
- Reminders: Sticky notes always worked as a reminder to do something, so why canāt a digital sticky note remind me with a sound, automatically, without me checking it? Is it really that complex?
- Slick: Paper sticky notes clutter my desk because paper takes space, but a digital sticky note should be easy to collapse, hide or summon with a shortcut, and have multiple notes in the same window, because itās digital and physical space isnāt a limit anymore!
- Searchable: A desk with 15 sticky notes is hard to scan, but a digital one? It should be easy to search and find the note I want, or search inside a note and find the stuff I want. Is it too much to ask?
- Simple: sticky notes are one of the simplest ways to take notes. I donāt want to watch videos or ask in forums how to take notes, it should feel natural to use. Hover over any button or setting to read what it does. Simple and quick.
Thatās why I built Better Stickies as it is today. I solved all these problems in it over the past year, and Iām finally presenting it to you with Wayland support.
The amount of engineering that went into it is insane for a desktop app, all to give you the best possible experience. Itās built with PySide6, a QT library, uses around 85 MB of RAM, 10% of what many electron note apps use, and itās fully offline and private.
I had to overcome Wayland limitations and wrote a custom Kwin script so notes can show on top of other apps and notes placements don't get lost when you close the app or restart your machine (only on KDE, for Gnome users please keep using xWayland)
Itās used and loved by tens of thousands of users on Windows and Linux across the world.
The free version has all features, only limited to 4 active notes. Premium is a one-time purchase at $7.99 (20% OFF instead of $9.99 for limited time)
Over a year Better Stickies got 8 major releases with bug fixes, more platforms support and new features that were just user feedback and ideas.
You can reach out to me on Reddit, e-mail, Discord or GitHub for feedback and feature requests.

General Bug Plasma Bigscreen (Kubuntu 26.10) System Settings not Saving?
Anybody who is currently running Plasma Bigscreen having a problem with changes to System settings within the Bigscreen settings not saving once you back out? Any togglable setting changes get changed back when I back out.
Changes are saved everywhere else, just not any changes I make specifically under the 'System' tab within the Bigscreen settings menu.
The only setting I am able to change within this menu is the theme. I also can't set any shortcuts.

Question Is there a way have every new opened window open into the next workspace?
I achieved this in GNOME with an extension very easily but am completely new to KDE and it's kind of a make or break thing because it's such a good workflow for me.

News Material Decoration 26.10.28: new tiling popup, custom layouts and matching menu colors
Hi everyone!
A new release of Material Decoration, the KWin decoration with application menus and action search integrated into the titlebar, is available.
Tiling popup
The biggest addition is a Windows 11-style tiling popup. Press and hold Maximize/Restore to choose where to snap your window. Alongside the usual halves and quarters, the popup displays your current screenās custom KWin layout, which you can edit with Meta+T.

You can also enable opening the popup simply by hovering over Maximize/Restore. This is optional and disabled by default, with a configurable delay. The popup supports both mouse and keyboard navigation.
Uniform colors
Now Menus can follow the decorated windowās color scheme. Enable āMenus follow decoration colorsā under Menu and Search, either globally or through a window-specific exception. It is disabled by default.

Other changes youāll notice:
- Materialās menus no longer appear as separate windows in Overview and Grid View.
- More informative tooltips explain the available press-and-hold actions and point you to Meta+T for editing custom layouts.
- Dragging from Minimize, Maximize or Close no longer accidentally triggers their press-and-hold actions.
- The decoration preview in System Settings renders correctly, without the gaps and visual artifacts reported previously.
- The KCM configuration module uses the modern KDE tab style.
There are also fixes to menu updates and search, including more reliable results when applications change their menus and better handling of open search and overflow menus.
A couple of things to know when updating:
- The tiling popup uses the included Material Tiling Popup KWin script, enabled by default. After its first installation, log out and back in so KWin can discover it.
- For security reasons and to simplify the codebase, Window exceptions now offer exact matching or plain-text substring matching instead of regular expressions. If you used regex-based rules, please review them.
How to get it
- Build from source: https://github.com/guiodic/material-decoration
- On Arch and derivatives, install
material-kwin-decoration-gitfrom the AUR. Precompiled package is available inchaotic-aur. There is not yet a PKGBUILD for the stable version, it will be available soon. The -git version can be regarded as effectively stable, as it is used by the developer on a daily basis in a work environment. - (K)Ubuntu (26.04+): a deb package is available: https://github.com/guiodic/material-decoration/releases/tag/26.10.28
Requirements
- Plasma 6.5+ for the master branch, working older versions are in other branches but are not updated/maintained.
- Works both on Wayland and X11 session!
Feature requests? Bugs?
- open an issue here: https://github.com/guiodic/material-decoration/issues

KDE Apps and Projects Shiftray: a small Plasma 6 tray app for ASUS laptops (power modes, GPU, battery limit), with a āday in the lifeā video
https://reddit.com/link/1xgyof5/video/ki38i08im1yh1/player
Hi! Iām the author of Shiftray, an app that puts asusctl and Cardwire into one small Qt window that opens at the tray icon. I use it daily on a TUF Gaming A15, Fedora 44, Plasma 6 on Wayland.
This is update on how the user may use the app.
It follows your Plasma theme. Every change it makes to the system is listed in Extra ā System changes with an Undo button.
GitHub: https://github.com/sprinterz5/shiftray
Itās an early release and so far tested on one laptop, so Iād love feedback from other ASUS users: whatās missing, what breaks?

Question Does anyone have a problem with computer not waking from sleep?
This has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now. I'm on Fedora KDE, and if I put the computer from sleep, next time it wakes up, I get a black screen, and the RGB on my keyboard doesn't turn on. The fans spin and the computer is powered on, but nothing is happening.
I finally tried gnome just to see, and it worked fine there.
Is this some KDE issue then? Anyone else having issues with it lately?
I'm not home now, but I'll post a few journalctl logs when I can.

News [Show Reddit] McGyver ā An open-source, offline radial wheel at your cursor to convert, compress, and merge files without breaking your flow
Hey everyone,
Like many of you, I got tired of opening heavy apps or uploading my files to sketchy ad-filled websites just to convert a single image, merge two PDFs, or compress a quick video.
To stop breaking my daily flow, I built (and partly vibe-coded) McGyverāa free, open-source desktop utility that brings the right tool directly to your cursor.
What it currently does:
- šÆ Radial Cursor Wheel (
Drag + Hold Shift): Grab a file, holdShift, and a context-aware wheel opens right around your cursor. Aim at a format/action, let go, and the new file lands right next to the original. - š ļø Everyday File Chores Handled: Convert images (WEBP, PNG, JPG, AVIF, HEIC, etc.) & strip EXIF, compress/trim videos and audio (via FFmpeg), merge/split PDFs, convert Office docs to Markdown/PDF, shift subtitles, and handle archives (
zip,7z,tar.zst, etc.). - š 100% Local, Bloat-Free & Cross-Platform: No cloud uploads, no queues, no accounts. All conversions happen offline on your device. Available for Linux (KDE Plasma 6 / Wayland), macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel), and Windows (x64 & ARM64).
You can even test how the wheel feels directly in your browser using the interactive demo on the landing page before downloading anything.
Since it's v1.0.0, Iām looking for early users to test it out, break it, and tell me what's missing. If you like the idea or find it useful, dropping a ā on GitHub would really help me out and give the project some early momentum!
š Website & Interactive Demo:https://mcgyver.ferdiunal.tr/š GitHub Repo:https://github.com/ferdiunal/mcgyver
Thanks for checking it outāany feedback, issue reports, or PRs are more than welcome!
