Discussion Just finished all of Housepets for the first time
Took me about a week, I went very slow and appreciated all the details which I missed reading it partially the first time a decade ago. Many scenes made me cry but especially the happy conclusions for Petey and Dragon. Even demigods eventually grow as people in a comic as longrunning as Housepets!
I adore this comic, Rick's art & writing, and the community around it! I feel as though I watched an artist mature as a person and creator throughout reading. I loved the themes around finding meaning and love in a mortal world most of all. Every part of it was awesome, including the earliest arcs and the various parody intermissions (the Jurassic Park one was my favorite and Macbeth a close second).
Now my only struggle is how to describe this to my friends to convince them to read it. So far I've workshopped a few pitches:
- it's furry homestuck
- sunday funnies with a side of operatic religious and social drama
- it's what would happen if Jim Davis suddenly gained existential self-awareness and broke out of the fugue state they keep him in to keep churning out more Garfield
- it's a story about a DnD game gone awry
Thoughts??
