Another amazing milestone! congratulations to you all for being part of this subreddit, without you all it would have remained an ideas amongst the comments on an Expectation vs Reality post about ten years ago... See you again at 200K!
A little late to announce this... but better late than never and better than leaving it until December... that would be awkward!
Firstly, Please note the rules have been defined more clearly to help with understanding before posting.
They are still very much the same with the same intention to ensure we remain focused on frozen dinner comparisons as the primary content.
Secondly, I encourage you all to join our other subreddit called /r/MoreFrozenDinners which is where you are all free to post about frozen dinner topics outside of just comparison posts, things like questions or opinions on taste or just looking for an old favourite meal that's no longer stocked at your local shopping market.
We also have a /r/FailedFrozenDinners subreddit for those unfortunate mistake when we forgot to read a step or simply forgot about the dinner while scrolling through our socials... feel free to contribute in line with the topic and rules.
Please do join these other subs, it helps the community grow and give some breadth to our content and discussions without it all being junked up in one place.
Lastly, you may not have noticed yet.. but we quietly added a merchandise store to our website last year, we didn't want to jam it in your face or attempt to cram it down your throats like a still too hot from the microwave mac and cheese!
Take a look, there is some weird crap on Red Bubble but the T-Shirt designs are the intended focus and hopefully the more enjoyable options for you all to consider. More designs to come!
You can find the link to the website up in the subreddit menu bar or browse to frozendinners.net
Thanks again for being part of the community! Welcome to 2024! and let's all have a great year!
$2.50 - bit pricey for a frozen burrito but Im sure you can find these in bulk for cheaper price/unit.
Following the instructions on the back for airfrying(17min @ 330F) you will achieve a slightly crunchy burrito with a great texture all around. The structural integrity of the burrito held up well compared to competitors. The inside was the consistency of typical frozen burrito filling- thick, creamy, but less homogenous than others. You could distinctly tell what was chicken for it was in decent sized chunks. The creamy factor from the cheese was a nice touch.
Two of these would make a solid meal alongside some hot sauce. 7.5/10
these are BANGER in the air fryer 10/10, ive had nuggs where its like im chewing breading more than meat. the meat is plentiful and tender and the light breading adds a nice crunch.
On the plus side, it was pretty tasty. And $1 on sale. And probably shelf-stable for a few years.
On the quibble side: required 90 seconds, and was greatly improved with a splash of habanero sauce.
On the “minus” side: no “tender beef chunks” as pictured, rather, there was a “salisbury steak” style circular patty in there. smaller than even Wendy’s or McD’s smallest burger offerings.
I microwaved mine. Added a little but if seasoning to the potatoes and broccoli for better flavors. Steak was tender and medium cooked. Highly recommend and would get again.
$4.47 from the store(better value than their other dishes).
Steak was probably brisket or extremely tender chuck roast that shredded & was quite pleasantly tender.
This bowl was loaded with veg: bell peppers, cilantro, beans along with charred corn. Peppers were surprisingly crunchy; beans were tender & not undercooked; so called cilantro-sauce was practically just cilantro w/ canola/olive oil plus some garlic. Rice was cooked properly & honestly brought this whole bowl together structurally.
This bowl was a satisfying portion of food & overall pretty decent for a frozen dinner. Wish the steak & cheese portions were more generous & more rice than beans. 7/10
$12.99 at Costco for the 3 pack. This didn’t disappoint! There’s a kick to the pizza, I just couldn’t figure out if it was from the pepperoni or salami. Didn’t skimp on the toppings. I will say, the salami did make the pizza a bit on the saltier side so if that bothers you, add a veggie topping if you wish or have a side salad to go with.
Crust was good as well. Not too thin, not too thick. Definitely would buy again.
Now i might be a bit biased but I don't have an Indian restaurant near me that is not vegan but this slaps so hard. Microwaved per directions and it's so flavorful.
Nice good chunks of chicken and the rice was so fluffy and light. Definitely buying again and checking out their other products
For a very reasonable $3.99 I picked up this dinner from TJs.
Cooked as instructed on package(Microwave 4mins on high, stir, microwave 2min. ) The presentation of the bowl looked insanely fabulous for a meal before I stirred it to cook another 2min like the package said to. So I recommend skipping the stir if you care a lot about presentation.
The flavor profile of this bowl is fabulous, the rice & chicken are filled to the brim with spices; the basmatirice was properly cooked & not sopping wet; chicken was of high quality w/ great texture for precooked frozen meat; the garlic sauce brought this whole bowl together through a light creamy tasty component; while the red bell peppers & spinach gave it splashes of freshness; occasionally you will get a pickle forward bite of red onion that made it more enjoyable.
This was so far the best frozen dinner bowl I have tried from TJs. Shawarma bowl's gonna be hard to beat!
Decent portion, quality impressed, & the flavor was the star of the show. 9/10 - only thing that would have brought this up to a 10 would be if there was more crunch/texture: cabbage, lettuce, something crispy, diced pickles or cucumber.
This was a nice comfort meal that was basically rice/blackbeans/corn topped with a corn tortillas, chicken, cheese and verde salsa.
Everything tasted pretty fresh including the chicken. The portion was solid and filling. Salsa/sauce was slightly spicy & reminiscent of fresh of tomatillos.
Tortilla and corn added a pleasant hint of sweetness. Cheese crisped up nicely on edges.
was actually pretty suprised by this meal. the turkey was solid and actually tasted similar to real turkey, the gravy was good as well, nice and thick. i would say the mash needs seasoning and the stuffing could’ve been better, was kinda soggy.
it’s definitely not super thin but the crust has a nice crunch to it. I like the sauce, very flavorful, but might be a bit salty to some people. The pepperoni slices are thick and crisped up well. It’s definitely one of the better frozen pizzas I’ve tried. Cost around $6 at my local Winn Dixie. good for quick dinner after work.
I split this up for the next three meals - great for week long meal prep if I you were to get 2 bags.
This chicken fried rice is really good, especially the chicken which had decent mallard coloring which gave it some great flavor a lot like the restaurant. The egg tastes fresh & the soy sauce flavor could fool you for what they use at a restaurant.
Really solid for the price point, amount of food, & quality. I'm put'n this in my monthly rotation. Hits the spot when you are hungry for restaurant style fried rice. 8/10
Shoutout to my buddy for trying this with me. Said that “acceptable” was the best word for this, chicken was squishy and disappointing. Sauce got a little much towards the end. The package advertised big portions of veggies and that was def not the case… I personally thought the peppers took away from the rest of the flavor.
Overall disappointing flavor, ok price, neither of us would buy again.
