Discussion Dragon Age Games Opinions & Reviews Megathread

Hey everyone,

Lately, we've been seeing more and more threads looking to discuss the quality of Dragon Age games. Since these posts tend to be extremely repetitive, we've decided to redirect any new threads aiming to discuss the games' overall quality to this megathread, for the time being.

To be clear, you will still be able to discuss characters, themes, story, lore reveals, and other specific aspects in separate threads. However, if you're looking to share your opinion on any one of the games, ask for other people's opinions of them, or simply post your own reviews, please do so here.

The usual rules still apply, so please remember to keep discussions civil - even when in disagreement with other users. Thank you!

BioWare Pls. Suggestion: the Viper with facial hair

I was chatting with someone recently and we got to the discussion of how the Viper looks unmasked. I've seen mixed opinions about his face online, some love it some don't. Personally I think he's quite pretty but I present my case: facial hair.

Obviously since he never takes that mask off there was no need to render him with any. This is my badly drawn attempt to give him some. I tried multiple styles that we've seen other characters have in game. I can't decide which suits him best honestly.

It's not my best artistic rendering, I whipped these up quite quickly before I forgot about it.

Discussion I want to hear about other people's world states

I love the capacity for storytelling that dragon age has, and I love talking with my friends about the overarching narratives they've built with their characters throughout each game. I'm curious to hear about what other people have going on while they're playing! Whether it's oops-all-mage-PCs, going really hard into themes, headcanons about PCs from one game being involved in another, or even personal world building/lore that goes against canonical dragon age lore.

tldr: manufacturing an excuse for people to infodump because I love stories :)

Discussion Dragon Age Keep 2 - Mass Effect Archives 2

Hello everyone, some updates from the project. Still ongoing. But hinting a wall now for Dragon Age 2.
For DAO, I could base the code on libraries that devs and fans made to match with the save file codes.

But DA2 doesn't seems to have those kind of libraries. It is even weird that after all those years, this isn't available.
I could manage to find back some of the quest' informations but not everything.

May I ask your help for some points:

1/ if you know a complete library that I could use to match the save files to the keeps' database, would be helpful (note I've already tested nearly all the save mods from Nexusmod and Git, they are just editing your stuff, not the questlines/questions)

2/ in order to get enough examples, is there a way to download some shared save files? (if needed I'll replay several times but would be easier to have shared save with different playthroughs)

3/ this is also for DAO: if there are some shared save file I could download to test different tiles, that would be useful to see if the actual code can interpretate correctly everything scenario possible

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Your Ideal Dragon Age Game?

• Upvotes

What's your ideal Dragon Age Game by taking all 4 game's best elements into consideration. For me:

DAO - Character Starting Origins, Dark Tone, Storytelling.

DA2 - Character development of both Hawke & his/her companions.

DAI - Combat, Exploration, DLCs & Dragon Keep.

DAV - I mean, better visuals and animations? As it is the latest game? I don't know.

Discussion I settled on a Mage for my entire Series run but I want opinions on a certain character[dao] Spoiler

So far the Mage Origin, do you guys help Jowan or betray him?

Part of my self insert is I'd want to help my best friend because I trust him not knowing he is in fact a blood mage.

But the other side feels like my character never had a bad experience in the Circle so why would I betray it? Especially when I have suspicions about Now and behavior.

Also I'm torn on whom to romance between Morrigan and Leliana, I pretty much exclusively pick Morrigan, but considering her character and no mentions of the warden or Kieran in DA:V(no hate just considering it a what if or alternate history Dragon Age for my head Canon.) I'm a bit more inclined to go with Leliana as my wardens love interest.

BioWare Pls. Sam Maggs wants to adapt *Dragon Age* for WEBTOON. He has an idea for the story.

Dragon Age WEBTOON is an idea that caught the attention of Sam Maggs, a screenwriter and video game writer. She sees potential in the BioWare universe for a story that combines magic, conflicts between mages and Templars, and romantic tension.

In an interview with John Dodge of CBR, Maggs was asked about other franchises she’d like to adapt for the WEBTOON platform. In response, she pointed to the fantasy series, emphasizing that her day job involves writing game scripts. In her opinion, the Dragon Age universe would be perfect for an online comic.

Maggs’s idea is to explore the conflict between mages and Templars. This conflict, characteristic of the Dragon Age universe, could serve as the backdrop for a story blending fantasy with romance and the emotional relationships between the characters.

The screenwriter suggested that romantic storylines set in this tension-filled reality would be particularly interesting. This direction fits well with the WEBTOON format, in which personal dramas and character relationships can unfold alongside the main plot.

Discussion Which of these origins do people think works best as a Leliana romance + sacrifice route?

Both of them have rather fiery and cocky exteriors, though they're also damaged in different ways.

  • Female Human Mage: Very skilled and knowledgeable in magic, but quite naive about most life skills and common knowledge given how sheltered most circles are. Is typically quite hostile and outspoken towards the Templars and the Chantry as a result. Has trouble trusting others after Jowan's betrayal at which point she also developed an interest in blood magic, believing that you need to understand something to fight it effectively.
  • Female City Elf: A skilled thief and knife wielder who is essentially the opposite of the mage in relation to life skills, being well used to sneaking around and pilfering what others aren't likely to miss to help her community. Following the depraved actions of Kendells towards her and Shianni she is shattered inwardly and despises humans, though she does her best to put up a convincing front.

Sorry if they're not the most coherent backgrounds, I'm admittedly not great at this sort of thing 😅

Discussion I don't like Veilguard companion romances Spoiler

I'm replying Veilguard and Taash and Harding just got together and I remember why I didn't like it. Why... are we awkwardly standing there and listening to taash say Harding smells nice. Emmrich and Strife come out of the blue and I can't say much on neve and lucanis since I romanced him

I really liked Bull and Dorian though. I liked their banter and how, once together, you can ask them about getting together. Maybe because we don't awkwardly watch them admit feelings. I will admit that their romance isn't perfect. When I replayed Inquisition and got their banter was very explicit and probably should've been left for them to talk it out privately but then we wouldn't have actually known they got together.

Dagna and Sera are cute... in theory. I don't think she had any banter of her talking about Dagna? Correct me if I'm wrong. It might've been nice to get a cutscene with Sera asking the Inky(if friends) on what to get her, maybe?

And Blackwalls crush on Josie was cute as well. Too bad it could never go further 😔

But then Veilguard gave us companion romances and they were just... meh. I heard that, especially for Lucanis, it sours his romance. Since he's constantly flirting with Neve and Rook just feels like a nuisance. Please correct me if I'm wrong since I never took them out together ☠️

Emmrich and Strife, similar to Dagna and Sera, are cute in theory. But it comes out of NOWHERE. It would've been nice if... say you bring Emmrich to the Veiljumpers then maybe Emmrich and Strife have a conversation like as you're passing by him or something and can stop to listen. Or if you go without him Strife can ask about Emmrich.

Add banter of Emmrich talking about Strife to the companions or even have him talk about him to Rook occasionally. So, the romance isn't so random. I looked at his banter, and he only talks about Strife once they get together.

Lastly, Lace and Taash. I just... don't like them together. Taash can't be older then 23 to me they seem around 20 and Lace is in her thirties, but the game makes her(to me) act so young. Probably to make the romance less weird?

They don't seem to worry about age-gaps, considering Rook can romance Emmrich and they force you to play a young character. Thus, Rook is much younger than him. Harding literally tells him "you're so much older"

AND YOU'RE LIKE A DECADE OLDER THAN TAASH.

like, okay... maybe lace/taash's age-gap isn't as bad as emmrich/rook but it's STILL an age gap 😭

The writers can try and make her seem younger, but considering veilguard takes place ten years after tresspasser, and you meet her in inquisition(Harding seems 20-24 to me in the game) then she's between 30-34. She's still an older woman.

Anyways, I'm done the rant. I don't like the companion romances in Veilguard. Thank you for reading my complaints.

Fanworks It was always you, Kadan

Both our worlds were falling apart,

My reality against your fiction,

I was young,

Alone, afraid, insecure,

And there you were,

In contrast to all that I was,

Tall, strong, confident,

How was I not to fall for you then?

When you held my heart like the most brittle of glass,

And forged it into something stronger,

With laughter as your hammer,

And kindness as your heat.

Together then,

We learned what we could not learn apart,

That our bodies were ours and ours alone,

That I was a boy worthy of love,

And you were a man more than a weapon.

Ever charging at my side,

We saved your world,

And you saved mine.

Many seasons have passed since,

No longer a boy myself,

But a man I think you'd be proud of,

And although the memories become more distant,

My feelings have not.

Tear-laced letters typed across a screen,

Come as close to describing how thankful I am,

As the clouds come close to the stars,

But still,

I'll say thank you,

For creating warmth where none existed,

And for giving life to a boy who thought he was already dead,

It was always you, Kadan

Fanworks Dragon Age Keep 2 - Mass Effect Archives 2

Little update: one of the last pages has been implemented (worldstates). With data coming from local saves of DAO and DA2.
DAI will be the last high trouble but will get rid of it.
Also bonus: Veilguard is ready too.

New action: free mode and restricted mode. Free mode allows you to do whatever the choices you want to do in the tapestry. Print the story that you want.
Restricted mode is our actual known mode of the Keep: limitations due to the choices from the game (this mode will be needed for the export to DAI).

Support Awakening help Spoiler

I'm doing what you could call my 'cannon' worldstate. I've finished up Inquisition and Veilguard. A few months ago, I did origins and then played witch hunt. I didn't play awakening cause I romanced Morrigan and really wanted to see her again ☠️

and Uh... at some point I deleted my origins play and now just have witch hunt. Obviously, I can't use witch hunt for Awakening.

Well, that's a lie. I have a playthrough like a quarter of the way done but had stopped playing it. I only ever play as the same Warden so, luckily, it's the same character. I don't feel like playing through all of origins again and was wondering if I could just use that playthrough. I know that not all of my choices would be able to go into awakening which I'm alright with.

I'm mostly worried about Oghren as in that playthrough I didn't recruit him. Will he still show up, and will he be able to get with Felsi?

Unless there's a mod for Awakening which'll allow me to import a worldstate without having to play through origins then I'd either have to replay the game or have no oghren(if he won't show up)

Thank you for any help 🙏🙏

So after a long time I have finally finished the platinum on DA2 as well, DATV started it, had such a blast with it that made me revisit older DAs and collect them and platinum them, so I did. First was DAI then DAO and now DA2, yes will go after the DLCs as well, sadly for the DA2 I cannot buy the DLCs from the PS store since they're not there for my region (SK) but I have a small account (UK) that has them for the "Friendly" price of 23£ 🤣. This platinum I want to use as a thank you letter for bioware for the endless fun I had, the memories and the amazing journey

Discussion Dragon Age Inquisition NPC Dialogue Hits Different

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In light of the recent Bioware closure… I want to celebrate Dragon Age Inquisition.

This time, I want to highlight how the regular NPCs in Inquisition have quite varied and flavorful characterization, Threnn is a Loghain Supporter, Seggrit is racist towards elf and a money grubbing prick (you can let him die in a house fire), and Harritt hates mages that when the mages given refuge in Redcliffe, he quits town and goes to Haven.

It’s like not everyone in this world is Mother Giselle, which makes it more real that most people have their own bias and opinion, some are asshole, some are good and it’s not just black and white.

Discussion which background for origins should I do next?

Played f!city elf x leliana (was my canon for awhile and first playthrough), m!city elf (didn’t keep with it), m!dalish elf x morrigan (current canon)

I was going to do m!human nobel and romance morrigan again, but now I’m considering f!cousland x alistair or m!mage and morrigan. not looking at doing a dwarven run this time just because romance options i’d rather go with morrigan alistair or leliana. not really interested in zevran.

i do like playing rogue the most— ive found magic to be pretty frustrating in the past when taking over wynn but its not off the table since it could make things interesting with morrigan and leliana. i was going to do an archer this run since ive heard it can be extremely op.

thoughts???

Discussion [Spoilers All] Why did the Old Gods go silent? Spoiler

I’m trying to wrap my head around this thing regarding the Magisters Sidereal and the Old Gods/Evanuris based on the new lore we got in Veilguard.

Solas explains that the Old Gods were high dragon familiars acting as anchors/conduits for the trapped Evanuris. The Evanuris used these sleeping dragons to whisper to the Tevinter Magisters, tricking them into breaching the Veil to free them. So, thats fine and understandable

But Corypheus explicitly says that the moment they entered the Golden/Black City, Dumat and the rest of the Old Gods went completely silent. If the darkspawn have to physically tunnel down and find a sleeping Old God to turn it into a Blighted Archdemon, that means all the Old Gods were still unblighted and sleeping normally right after the breach happened, right? Like they have to become blighted to become an archdemon.

So, if the Evanuris were still trapped in the Fade, and the dragon were still unblighted underground, why did the communication cut off instantly? Why couldn't/didn't the Evanuris keep talking to Tevinter to guide them, instead of leaving them completely abandoned? Surely, with their authority as the Old Gods, and with Elgar'nan and Co's want for authority and worship, they would feel the need to continue on? Why just go quiet? Could they no longer contact them? Why? Why could they before but not after?

Hell, they could have used the blight from within the Veil to rise their dragons as Archdemons, AND use Tevinter being their gods, to free themselves, no? Why also, as archdemons, did they just go on mindless rampages. For example, when Dumat rose, Dirthamen surely would have still had control of his dragon, as we know Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain in VG, so why did Dumat/Dirthamen and the remaining Evanuris just go on a mindless killing spree. The 1st blight was arouns 200 years. For what? Why didn't the Evanuris just say "hey, attempt 1 failed, let's continue to use Tevinter and the Imperium's strength to keep trying, now being able to control our dragons and lead darkspawn armies"?

Again, they are power hungry, and love the attention and worship. Especially Lusacan/Elgar'nan. So why didn't they keep communicating, and become content with just doing.... something? As archdemons?

Perhaps this is explained and I've missed it somehow! Lmk!

I am wording this very poorly, so apologies. Its like 3am where I am lol.

Tldr; why did the Evanuris instantly go silent the moment the Magisters breached the Black City? Why didn't they keep talking to Tevinter to work up a backup plan, instead of letting their dragons become seemingly mindless Archdemons that just went on random rampages with no actual plan?

Discussion Inquisition multiplayer Xbox

I was just wondering if anyone still plays the multiplayer or is interested in coming back to it?

I’m not interested in being carried, just looking for people who fancy playing some games here and there.

I’m EU but don’t mind playing NA if the timings line up!
