Hey everyone,
I'm a college student at NYU studying Information Systems & Technology, and I recently got an interview for MEMX's Summer 2027 Data Center Operations Internship. My interview is tomorrow, and I'm pretty nervous since I haven't interviewed for a role like this before.
For context, I previously worked at JPMorgan Chase, where I got some experience with AWS, troubleshooting, and software development. I also mess around with Raspberry Pis and Linux in my free time, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert in networking or data center infrastructure.
From what I understand, the internship pays $30/hr and has a hybrid schedule:
- Monday: 1 PM–10 PM at the North Bergen, NJ data center
- Tuesday: Remote
- Wednesday–Thursday: In the NYC office
- Friday: Remote
I'm interested in Tech, but I'm still figuring out exactly what I want to do.
I have a few questions for anyone who's worked at MEMX or in data center operations:
- What kind of technical questions should I expect in the interview? Should I focus on Linux, networking, hardware, or troubleshooting?
- Is data center operations a good starting point for someone interested in cloud engineering or cybersecurity?
- Does this schedule seem reasonable for an internship, especially with the Monday evening shift in NJ?
- Is $30/hr competitive for this type of role in NYC?
- Would this internship be worth pursuing over something like a business analyst or IT internship?
I'm genuinely excited about the opportunity, but I want to understand what I'd be getting into and how useful the experience would be for my future career.
I'd appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who's interned at MEMX or worked in data center operations. Thanks!
