Trump isn't on the ballot in November, but Trumpism sure is. Early voting in Ohio is open now through November 1st, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. Vote early and in person if you can, and bring a friend or family member. The sooner the better, because anything can happen: illness, car trouble, a family emergency, or this administration pulling a fast one on DEMOCRACY. Bonus: campaigns can see who has already voted (not how). Once you vote, they take you off their call, text and door-knock lists, and your candidates can put that money and those volunteers toward people who haven't voted yet. Fewer texts for you, more help where it counts.

FOUND To the person who abandoned their dog...

On the side of the road on 62 by Blacklick this morning, you are a terrible person. A car three cars ahead of me took a dog out of their car, I am assuming theirs, and dumped her in someone's yard. They put her far enough in the yard and then went back to their car and took off. She started running after them along the road. There were so many cars. I pulled off and grabbed her. I was sure she was going to get hit. It was all very sad.

I was on my way to work and took her back home. Fortunately, my husband is working from home today and my inlaws are in town. We will probably take her to Franklin County Dog Shelter which opens at 10:00 unless someone else has a better suggestion? She seems very sweet. I think she is a French Bulldog.

Update #1: My husband took her to the vet this morning. She does not have a microchip. She is 5-7 years old and has been spayed. They said she does have some breathing issues, which you can hear, I know that is typical for bulldogs, that may require surgery. I have been emailing back and forth with Buckeye Bulldog Rescue. I am waiting to hear back if they can take her. I also went back to the house she was abandoned at and left a note for the owners just in case they knew the dog. I have been chatting with them and the wife works in animal care and can help out if we need her to. My in-laws are visiting from out of town and brought their dog with them so we currently have her in their dog crate. We have a dog and three cats and a two year old as well so we are keeping her in the crate for the time being with food and water as a precaution. We have taken her out on frequent walks and she has been very calm in the crate. I will keep everyone updated once we have a more solid plan in place.

Update #2: We found her a loving home! My husband's good friend from work and his family just adopted her. They are really good people and came by with one of the family dogs to check interactions. There was no issue. She is a very sweet dog and has gotten along well with our dog and cats today. She also did well with our two year old. He will send regular updates on how she is doing. Thank you to everyone for your advice, words, and encouragement. I was absolutely horrified this morning when I saw her abandoned. I felt like I couldn't comprehend what I saw. I have been emotional about it all day but I am so happy she is going to a loving home where she will spend the rest of her days cared for. She deserves a happy life. 💜🐾 I don't think there is a way for me to post a picture. If anyone knows how let me know and I will post one if you would like to see.

Quite silly that Trick Or Treat isn’t on Halloween, no?

I’ve heard it’s for “safety” but people are always going to be celebrating Halloween, no matter the day of the week.

EDIT: I moved here from the West Coast where Halloween was always on Halloween, October 31st. I honestly don’t care about football, high school or college, and that being a big reason for the early trick or treat is silly to me 😂 As for drunk driving, that happens every day. I see the intent, though

REQUEST Is my house a data center?? My Columbus utility bill was $828 this month.

Post image
180 Upvotes

This bill says water usage was 67.749 CCF and sewage usage was 72.749 CCF. Going back to August 2024, my average CCF has always been well under 20.

For context, my September bill was $56.66 and my August bill was $44.44. When it was quarterly billing prior to that, I was usually between $160-$180.

1600ish sq ft single family home I’ve lived in since 2019. No signs of leaks. No in ground sprinkler system/I’ve never once watered my lawn. No pool. I probably shower less often than I should. Got the new digital meter thingy installed this summer (June or July, maybe?)

Any advice for someone (a plumber?) I can call to confirm no leaks? Anyone else have something like this with the City of Columbus? What was the cause/how did you fix it?

Favorite waiter MIA / etiquette

Ok, this is awkward and maybe the answer is that I’ll just never know.
We have a favorite waiter at our favorite restaurant, the Avenue in Grandview. From the comments, he is a lot of guests’ favorite. For a few years, we’d request him and we took care of him and he took care of us. The last two times we’ve requested him, he wasn’t there. I can only assume he isn’t on staff but I at least want to know he’s ok. I can’t think of a polite way to ask - probably because there isn’t one. Maybe someone can guess who I mean and just let me know the guy is ok - he really is an amazing dude that my wife and I love and respect. I hope he’s doing great things.

Chillicothe? Want to avoid sitting traffic and especially for that guy. Want to preserve my peace and sanity today. Thanks!

POLITICS Cook Political Report Update

Ohio currently +4 points to Democrats according to the Cook Political Report.

Ohio also has the highest political spending of any toss-up state, so that explains the absolute hell we've all been going through.

No matter what party you support, please go and vote! Voting is one of the greatest rights we have, and unfortunately a lot of people don't use it.

POLITICS In a new Suffolk University/USA TODAY poll only eight out of 360 respondents who were aware of ad featuring Amy Acton's mother changed their mind as a result (seven went from Vivek to Acton and one went from Acton to Vivek)

https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/politics/2026/10/28/ramaswamy-attack-ad-on-acton-may-have-backfired-ohio-poll-finds/92445056007/

The poll ran from 10/21-10/26, 500 likely voters. 72% (360) of those were aware of the ad:

Nearly three-quarters of those polled, 72%, had seen or heard about the ad within days of its release. But it changed few minds. Seven respondents said the ad caused them to switch from Ramaswamy to Acton. Only one respondent said the ad caused them to switch from Acton to Ramaswamy.

Nationwide children’s hospital mental health, is this legal/normal?

I’ve been emailing nationwide in attempt to obtain my medical records. I recieved my records but when i checked the box to receive photos they didn’t provide any. I was specifically looking for the intake documentation photos they took of me upon arrival to the mental hospital. for context i was a minor (14) at the time and they made me strip to my underwear and bra and a male nurse with a digital camera took numerous photos of me in that position and they explained it was for documentation of my injuries and scars so they couldn’t be held liable if i occurred any new injuries. I’m now an adult but i’ve sent follow up emails looking for these photos, yet they’re saying that they are no photos available for the dates i requested. I know the dates are correct, yet they’re acting like these photos don’t exist. Im extremely uncomfortable with the fact photos of me in that position are out there, yet i don’t have access to them and i don’t know who does. Did anyone else have this experience? Is there a way I can obtain these? It’s pretty distressing thinking about who has these and what’s been done with them if they’re not willing to release them to me.

Mike Carey- HB 6 scandal

I know so many people vote for a candidate based on whether they have an R or D next to their name. If you plan on voting and you live in congressional district OH-15, do some homework before you vote for somebody that is this corrupt. His wealth and his career is based around being a Coal lobbyist. He played a role in the Ohio HB 6 scandal which caused all our energy prices to go up a few years ago. Let’s get corruption out of Ohio politics. And yes I know he’s not the only corrupt politician.

NEWS Jesse Vogel - Issue 9 is a reasonable response by council members to Our City Our Say's organizing

Thumbnail dispatch.com
29 Upvotes

"I disagree with the characterization that Issue 9 is nothing more than an attempt by politicians to hold onto their power... It is not perfect, but neither is Issue 8. Issue 9 addresses real concerns, including from Black community and faith leaders about racial representation under the current maps, and labor leaders who worry about how to address city-wide public infrastructure needs under a district-only system... Personally, I will vote yes on both Issues 8 and 9." Vogel said.

REQUEST Free to a good home!!

Post image
27 Upvotes

EDIT: NOT FREE, WILL REQUIRE A REHOMING FEE

More photos in comments.

My partner and I found a stray dog the other day on I-70... She doesn't appear injured other than a small limp in her back left leg, but no bones appear broken... The limp has almost completely subsided today.

She's not spayed and appears to have had a recent litter given her nipples are large. Otherwise, appears in good health, listened to her belly, heart, and lungs, and all appar to check out... We dewormed her, washed/killed all the fleas on her, given her a flea and tick medication, the works.

If anyone is willing/able to adopt her, we'll provide 4 months of the flea/tick/worm medication along with some other basic amenities.

She appears to be decently housebroken, only having a few accidents at first either out of stress, or some mild scent marking due to other dogs in the house.

She's an ABSOLUTE sweetheart and just wants to snuggle and be with you. She'll win your heart over in an instant. Feel free to DM me if you or anyone you know is able to give her a good home. (As soon as possible please, we'd keep her if our current dog wasn't reactive 😭)

We named her Strelka cause her eye patch looks exactly like the Russian space dog Strelka (Strelka and Belka mission)
