Event Tonight @ something else records, classical guitar, noise, and field recordings: Bilal Nasser, SLow Man Tofu, Kahraba, DIY, NO STATIC.

Wednesday October 28th at 7pm, something else records! $15 bucks, No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds. Classical guitar, sounds found conjured evoked and warped. Come be enamoured. This is a gig put on by me and some pals, with gear I've borrowed bartered or rented, and a space that has been offered to me by the kindness of the folks at something else records. In other words, Do It Yourself.

Palestinian "post-classical" guitarist Bilal Nasser is gigging it east and west in support of their forthcoming "Every Martyr Is A Universe" out on Constellation Records !! Truly thrilled to give the sort of act Bilal is doing a place to sound and resound.

Slow Man Tofu once again in support. Always always happy to see David play.

Kahraba is me, no input mixing board maybe more maybe less.

Poster was made by Earthside.

NO STATIC strives to provide as safe and inclusive a space as possible, but this is only contingent on those who facilitate and attend these events. Bring your friends, behave, be nice. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, abusers, predators, fascists, and the like are not welcome. NO STATIC is powered by you. NO STATIC is forever. NO STATIC is also a show on CFRC.ca / 101.9FM, live on air Monday nights 6pm to 8pm.

Recommendation Needed Places to hangout Downtown for an couple hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights?

Hello!

I’m looking for someplace within reasonable walking distance from Nexus Gaming downtown, to spend a couple hours on Tuesdays and possibly Thursday evenings.

I take my autistic younger brother to Nexus via the bus on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a card game night, but they’ve been running later than I expected.

I spend the first part of the evening at the library, but they close at 8 PM, and he isn’t finished till about an hour later at the earliest.

So, I’m looking for a spot, possibly a sit-down restaurant or coffee shop that is open later into the night that wouldn’t mind me sitting there (either working on my tablet or reading) after purchasing something to eat/drink for at least an hour to an hour and a half.

(Also, I know that Nexus runs its board game nights on Tuesdays, and I could try and be more social and go to that but it’s not really my thing.)

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!

Question Question about purchasing poppies

I have a group of volunteers from all over Ontario meeting in Toronto for an event to advocate for low income individuals. Since they are flying in and travelling they might not have time to grab a poppy or pass through an area with a donation box, so I wanted to be able to provide them with one as the arrive in Toronto (as per the request of the volunteers).

The Kingston Legion is refusing to give me poppies since they will be worn in Toronto. Does anyone have any assistance on how I could find/purchase around 70 poppies?

We also offered a donation of any amount since we are absolutely not expecting these for free. I am currently located in Kingston as we work all over Ontario.

When I get to Toronto I won’t have time to travel to a legion so was looking to get them ahead of time.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you.

EDIT - my mom and partner are currently both running errands and picking some up at each box for me (thankfully we always carry cash with us).

Thank you all for being helpful, and hopefully this will bring some awareness or help others who are looking to support!

Lost & Found Missing Cat

Hi everyone,

UPDATE: Neighbour said they saw him a few days ago in their yard where he normally frequents. Just reported him missing via microchip (yesterday) and DocuPet. And put up some missing posters in my neighbourhood! Fingers crossed!!

I’m so sad to be making this post, my cat Cosmo has been missing since Friday Oct 23rd. He is an indoor/outdoor cat and does sometimes go on benders for a few days then shows up, however, it is now day 4 and he hasn’t show back up.

Last seen Ambleside Crescent (Bayridge area) Friday night. Male, neutered, and microchipped with all the necessary updated information. He is about 5 years old.

He can be shy around strangers and will hide if he feels unsafe. If anyone’s seen anything, please dm me. I have posted on FB as well, thank you!

Appreciation Congratulations to Kingston‘s third female mayor ever

I’m so excited to hear that Connie Glenn beat the pants off of Brian Patterson. It fills me with the light to know that the third day cultist conversion therapy loving individual is no longer the top guy in our city. I’m also excited to discover that Connie is our third female mayor. The last time we had a woman in this office was Isabel Turner. Before that it was Helen Cooper and she was all the way back in the 80s.

Also, congratulations to ABBA Morley for beating the pants off of Gregory Ridge. He was a nice guy and he seemed to genuinely care about his constituents. I had a few issues that he helped me out with over the last few years. But honestly, ABBA looks amazing and I’m so excited to see what she brings to the table. Congratulations ladies. You are powerful and strong and I cannot wait to see the direction the city will take under your leadership.

Appreciation Aba's response time

I live in the Kings Town district and we elected Aba as our councilor yesterday.

I figured I'd email her to congratulate her and throw in a recommendation/request I had.

She emailed back within 1 minute.

I know that's not something to get used to.. but holy crap.

Thanks Kingston! Dear Bryan Paterson, you are dismissed! Congratulations to Connie Glenn! Comment with words of encouragement for our new mayor below! Or any words of relief over not having another 4 years with that other one.

Mayor Patterson is out, Mayor Glenn is in. I did not see Greg Ridge losing. What are your thoughts?

Recommendation Needed Need a Pfizer Shot

Hello good people of Kingston Reddit,

I am desperately seeking a non-Moderna vaccine for an 87 year old relative who is fragile and cannot tolerate Moderna. We have been to the family doctor. We have been to the public health unit. We have asked her regular pharmacy to order her a Pfizer shot. I have asked a random pharmacist to order one. I have called most pharmacies listed on the government website as being in Kingston and having Covid vaccines. Another family member is trying to find one in Ottawa.

If anyone on here has any leads on where to get a Pfizer (or any non-Moderna) vaccine I cannot tell you how much I would appreciate you sharing the information.

Thank you

Info Marijuana is toxic to pets, dispose of butts carefully.

Saw this post on Facebook and thought I would spread awareness here. I think a lot of people just don't know about this.

"Some words of caution. For people smoking weed, please for the love of God don’t flick your butt where dogs can find it!!!! Marijuana is extremely toxic to dogs when ingested and the smell is very attractive to them. Our six month old puppy ate a butt this morning, we know because he threw it up, at the KP trail. He is quite sick. So, again PLEASE dispose of you butts in a safe way, as they cause unnecessary suffering."

Discussion Returning in 2030?

If I had to guess, I’d say:

Likely
Vanessa Mensah (as councillor)
Michael Judd (especially if Tozzo runs for mayor)
Stephen Cuthbertson (council)

Maybe
Jeff Pearce
Daria Juudi-Hope (unless she focuses on NDP)
Chris Logstrup (as councillor)
Tom Gingrich (if Tozzo runs for mayor)
Joel Anthony Bruce (if Osanic retires)
Matt McTaggart (if Boehme runs for mayor)

Probably not:
Grant Bedard
Bryan Paterson
Joseph Abreu
Jeff Scott
Dorian Hartley
Charanjeev Sekhon
Prakash Dayal
Kevin Smith
Roger Dennis
Andrew DaCosta
Rajesh Kumar
John Meligrana
Melissa Reid
Greg Ridge
Chelsea Rae
Zachary Typhair

From 2022, we might also see Jacqui Collier and Skyler McArthur-O’Blenes come back. Maybe Rob Matheson if Hassan runs for Mayor.

EDIT: Typhair moved after announcement

Recommendation Needed Looking for a lawyer in Kingston – Urgent vehicle lease contract issue

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for recommendations for a lawyer in Kingston who handles contract disputes or consumer protection issues, specifically involving a vehicle lease agreement.

I've been trying to contact a few lawyers over the past several days, but unfortunately, I haven't had much luck getting a response.

I've also reached out to Cunningham Swan Carty Little multiple times. Each time, I've been told to call, but when I do, I end up leaving a voicemail and never receive a call back.

My situation is somewhat time-sensitive, and I really need legal advice as soon as possible.

Does anyone know a lawyer or law firm in Kingston (or elsewhere in Ontario) who might be available for a consultation on short notice? I'm happy to pay for a consultation.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Thanks so much!
