Please take a look at the updates we've made to the rules.
Due to an increase in self-promotion we've adjusted rule 5 to require mod approval, automod will automatically remove any posts it detects as self-promotion and if a mod approves the post or comment it will be shown.
Added rule 8, the vast majority of this subreddit is English speaking and due to limitations in our ability to moderate languages other than English please keep posts and comments in English. If you see any posts in languages other than English feel free to report with rule 8 as the reason.

What are the prizes?
Over the year, the prize pool formulates as I slowly gather goodies. I'll separate the prizes into 4 bundles. Usually the bundles include Game Boy games (all generations) and other GB-related trinkets.
Prize donors: Let me know if you're willing to donate prizes to this year's prize pool! Prize donors get 2 votes for next month's GOTM and my eternal admiration. This year's donors:

This month: Advance Wars
Just play regular campaign, Advanced Campaign is next level stuff and I'm not going to require that. Lol. We also won't be messing with the final Rivals! mission, which has to be unlocked in a very specific way. Definitely check it out if you're not familiar, but we won't do it for points this month.
Campaign mode is available after you complete Field Training. If you're already familiar with the game and you don't want to do Field Training, just tell Nell that you don't want to do it, and then you can finish just the last mission to unlock Campaign.
Choose any mission path you want to when you have a choice.
half point: Complete the third mission in Campaign (Air Ace) and have Max join your team. 1 point: Complete the Kanbei's Error? mission in Campaign. 2 points: Complete the Final Battle mission in Campaign. (must be completed and posted in October.)
I played the GB version as a kid, but mistakenly missed the GBA release until a few weeks ago. The game has taken over most of my free time since, and if you're at all a fan of pinball or Pokemon I highly recommend giving it a shot!
I repaired this Gameboy Color last week. It wouldn’t power on but after some soldering it’s fully working again.
Edit:
Some people think this GBC has not been repaired and the title is misleading. It uses about 80% original parts and the parts replaced are ones that cannot be salvaged (eg potentiometer, power switch, speaker). It involves several hours of cleaning of the corrosion, desoldering the original parts and transplanting them to a working PCB. The PCB is a new one I had made from Natalie’s Gerbers. I’m sorry if this confuses people what repairing a GBC to working order involves.
I recently finished Super Mario Land 2 and I loved it! Now I'm looking for similar games. I've been playing some other games like Mr. Digger, but I'm a bit more of a story/lvl game person. Any suggestions for what to play next?
This collection means the most to me because I still have my orginal GameBoy Color & GBA SP from my childhood along with some Pokemon games as well. The Gameboy Advance is my absolute favorite handheld and I have so many great memories playing these games🎮 I am in the process of replaying these games and still had my orginal save file on my childhood Pokemon FireRed copy. Its so fun and peaceful to sit down and flip through a old Nintendo Power Guide and play along🎮❤️
I tried moving the cpu and ram chips from two separate gba to two different funnyplaying motherboards and I got the same problem. It would boot without a game and then black screen with weird noises when a game was plugged in. I thought it was me and I would re flow the pins many times to no avail. The first time I did this mod I used all funnplaying parts and it worked my first try. These next two times I was using hispeedido parts and usbc rechargeable battery, and only the motherboard came from funnplaying. After I hit the same problem twice I just decided to see if a funnplaying battery would work and it did flawlessly!! Literally no issues, it boots perfectly and I can play games from my ez flash cart no problem. Does anyone know why that would be?? I've seen people mix the funnyplaying motherboard and hispeedido usbc rechargeable battery on youtube, but for some reason for me it wont work if I mix them. Are my pins just BARELY soldered right and the funnyplaying battery gives more power and that fixes it somehow?
Does anybody know of a flash cart that can boot a single game as if it was a standard ROM cartridge? I do a fair bit of romhacking, and it would be great to have a cart dedicated to a single game where I can just update the file on it and play without having to reprogram the cart.
I'm thinking of a cart with either an sd card reader to transfer a single rom file, or a usb port with a small amount of eMMC. This could be hidden in the housing so that it looks like a standard cart from the outside. The firmware should just check for a new rom on the external memory and write that to NOR flash memory. If there is already an up-to-date rom in NOR, it would boot that immidiately. So it would look and play like a standard programmable cart, but it can flash itself without a programmer and external software.
Anyone know off the top of their heads what chips this would take?
I got a prebuilt Game Boy Advance with the following upgrades installed:
IPS Screen
Upgraded Class-D Amp + 2W Speaker
Rechargeable USB-C Battery Pack
Dehiss Mod
I'm noticing two specific behaviors with the audio and wanted to see if this is normal for these kinds of setups, or if there is a known fix:
The 0% to 5% Volume Jump: When turning the volume wheel up from zero, there is a dead zone where nothing plays, and then the sound abruptly "snaps" or jumps straight into an audible level instead of fading in quietly. Same when scrolling the volume down, it will jump from an audible level to 0%. The best way I can describe it is it doesn't scroll up or down sequentially, but there is this dead zone which makes it jump from 0% to 5% and vice versa.
The Red Light Cut-off: The second the power light turns red, the audio cuts out completely (if the audio is not loud enough). If I scroll the volume wheel way up, it forces the sound back but it's much louder and not enjoyable.
I've been playing NintenDoku for some while now and today they ask for side view and action Gameboy games. Do you have a suggestion for me? It's gotta be kinda obscure so I can get the most points. And if yall interested in solving this puzzle yourself here is the link:
How do i clean this up? Is it safe to use afterwards? (if it even turns up anymore). Quite sad about it because it holds some memories. It survived for over 20 years, while some other consoles of mine either broke down or got sold. The backshell got lost many years ago but overall it still held strong.
So i found my old gameboy and games i of course have some of the classics like super maria land 1 and 2 and tetris and alleyway. With so many selling places i can find gameboy games easily so are there any must play games out there?
I have no games whatsoever. Years ago I was stupid and sold all my games. I used to have the old pokemons, sold those years ago for 20 bucks a piece. Now I found my old gameboy, still with a chage somehow. And now I have no games to play.
I was able to arrange a switch deluxe carrier case to work with my DMG and my entire current library of games. Not to mention I also got my light magnifier in there as well
