I have tutorials on how to carve dwarves on YouTube if you're at all interested in learning how to whittle. Its a super fun hobby.

Props Over $700 for a dragon head from wizkids? No thanks, I’ll make my own.

So I saw a wizkids dragon head trophy for the 50’th and it looked super cool. Come to find they are also super expensive. So I made my own. I found a 3d model of a dragon head, made it huge, and mounted it to a trophy board I made.

It was a lot of printing on my cr10-s500, and a few prints off my prusa. I wish i had dried my petg filament better, because there were plastic zits and strings that all had to be removed. Very tedious. I then applied some bondo to patch spots where it didnt line up correctly and gave it a skim coat in the stuff as well. After dozens of hours painting and sanding and filling and sanding and painting… i added highlights and shading base tones then I got to painting. Days and several clear coats later it was ready.

But I needed a mounting board. I 3d printed a template in the size and outline i wanted. I then rough cut some hardwood to size, traced and rough cut the shape and use a flush cut router to get it exact. Sanded and added a decorative routed edge, and some keyhole cutouts to hang it, and it was set to sand, stain and protect.

After a day of letting the epoxy cure it is done! I am thrilled to be done, but I could still see areas to improve. But perfect is the enemy of done. So i called it as it shows and overall I’m happy.

Props Secret map revealed by fire

Post image
686 Upvotes

Used Frixion pens for the main map and normal ballpoint for the hidden bits, so when you heat it the Frixion disappears and reveals the secret map underneath.

I originally planned to give the players candles to solve it, but it’s cold here at the moment and the fireplace turned out to be a much better (and safer) option.

Also, fun little bonus: you can reset the whole thing by putting the paper in the freezer, so I was able to do the reveal twice.

This took friggen ages. Do not recommend :)

Props [OC] 2 years of prototyping metal coins, finally got the gold plating right

Post image
487 Upvotes

Two years of prototyping. Showed them at a medieval fair last Sunday and watched the same scene 200 times: someone picks up the gold one, weighs it, asks "is this actually gold?"

Yes. 24k gold plating. The previous prototypes used cheaper plating and the color was always slightly off. This batch finally has the right warm tone.

Each coin has an engraved multiplier (x1, x10, x100, x1000, x10000) so a big treasure doesn't need 200 coins.

Happy to share what I learned about plating techniques, multiplier engraving, and quality control if anyone is working on their own coin project.

Props WIP - Simplified Spells/Attacks Cards

My players were paralysed by the amount of text

each spell had. I thought maybe by applying a system it would be easier for the gist and consult the rules after. I’ve kept to 5e as much as possible but it hasn’t always suited our homebrew games.

Cards are made in hearthcards free online tool as 2D images which I convert to 3D and print.

Looking for feedback and interest in uploading the STLs (20 and counting).

I already showed the mini's I made for this session last week. But decided to show some of the other things I made for this session.

I made a DM screen (to keep tiny eyes from seeing everything I had in store for them too soon), character sheets, pets, maps and I made up an adventure for them!

They (and me too) had so much fun. This was the first time I added roleplaying (the sessions before this one was just fighting) and it was way more chaotic. But always way more fun!

I loved how they used violence for almost every hurdle (and even every door. Even when it wasn't locked... Lol)

Props My DM had a faulty dice tower. I offered to fix it and give it the paint job it deserved.

I'm not a pro and it has a ton of imperfect spots, but I really like how it came out.

I'm sure you can find this somewhere online to 3d print if you want. But I will warn you that the large spot south west, as well as the opening next to it counter clockwise (where the mini with the hammer stands) throw out dice which inevitably land on the floor. It was driving everyone at the table mad, so I wanted to fix it!

I had lots of ideas, but I thought turning it into a small diorama of a party facing a beholder would be wicked cool. We have one guy clutching his bleeding sides, a spell caster petrified by the beholder's eye ray. Another just being downed by its death ray, while the last one stands defiantly for one last battle.

Props A PSA on how to get this woodfinish

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The finish on these is pretty easy, but you have to follow the process. I use Watco brand black walnut danish oil usually, but sometimes I use other stains like a cabernet color from Vatathane, etc... the key is waxing. I use Minwax brand paste finishing wax, but any soft wax should do.

Apply the Stain/ Oil, then do NOT WAIT, apply the wax and buff off with a stiff bristle brush. (I use an amazon basics stiff bristle brush for scrubbing floors) The buffing lifts wax off the high spots and the wax pulls oil / stain with it as it does. This leaves the high spots a lighter color and the lower crevices darker.

My experience has been that danish oil darkens more over time into the next day, making those dark crevices pop even more. To a lesser extent other stains do this as well, but I find it more pronounced with danish oil.

I love woodcarving. If you're curious about the hobby and about how to get into it, i'll leave a comment down below.

Started DMing to take full use of the table I built. Making tweaks each time. I think, outside of building a dm screen to hide the monitors it’s pretty much done.

Hi, im just probing the DnDIY community here to check if there would be interest for you guys in plans to create your own version of my take at the DmScreen.

Im thinking about dimensions, special hardware, needed tool and maybe video on top of that. Is there something else that would be handy?
