Art [Art] [Comm] Falrith the Tiefling

Post image
466 Upvotes

A recent commission I finished :D

Falrith is a young, hot-headed Tiefling with little anger issues. He lived a simple life in a small fishing village but after it was attacked and burned to the ground, he was forced to flee and found refuge by serving a baroness. What started as a means to an end turned into an affair that caused quite a stir. Long story short, he was banished from the area and had to flee again. The next spring, he was knighted as the "True Knight" by the Rotten Seer, to serve the realm.

Unfortunately, also because of his past, he is deeply skeptical of strangers, sometimes causing him to be hostile and aggressive and nasty right off the bat, even though he wouldn’t hurt innocents or civilians. He does not shy away from offering himself in exchange for a warm meal or a roof over his head — which is for him, purely a means to an end. But he has also a softer side and deep down he is longing for deeper connections and is a kinda touch/love-starved man.

More of my art to be seen here: https://machina-zero.tumblr.com/
And I have a request form for commissions here: https://tally.so/r/QKkNMp

5.5 Edition Anybody else not like how spears aren’t reach weapons?

I don’t really like it from a gameplay perspective or a historical perspective, spears historically can be used in one hand even if it’s less efficient which in game is already justified by the drop in damage from a d8 to d6 when one handing. Plus as it stands there isn’t all that much reason to use a spear as a main weapon, when I could use a broadsword or rapier and get the same damage plus with a rapier feat options that go with finesse, it’s practically is just as a throw away weapon like handaxes but idk, i just think spears are historically sick and should be able to be used as a fun primary weapon.

Pros of giving the weapon reach

Cool niche as being a one handed reach weapon, only other one is the whip which is eh but that’s been the case for years.

Positioning in combat becomes more fun as you can reach things that can’t hit you while still being able to use shields or off hand weapons for more control like a revolver.

Cons…if they can really be called that

It outweighs the value of the whip, but honestly the whips deserved something to make it cool outside of magic item effects for a while, so maybe WoTC would buff it if they buffed the spear a bit.

It lets you abuse sentinel a bit more, which…eh? I mean don’t get me wrong sentinel is a good feature but it’s by no means unstoppable, it really doesn’t do anything in range encounters, missing the op attack makes the feat useless, it eats a reaction so certain classes just don’t take it on principle because they have better reaction use, teleportation exists, it doesn’t do much at locking down multiple opponents, spell casting is still infinitely better at control late and even mid game, so on so forth…plus if you wanna reach sentinel with a shield use a whip, that lets the build already exist in game. That’s not even bringing up how DMs ban sentinel sometimes (personally I think that’s a bit cowardly tbh it’s really not that hard to play against unless the entire party has it in which case woe be upon ye I cast ranged enemies).

It lets more things combo with shield master, okay so this I can’t decide if it’s a con or pro, shield master is weaker in 5.5 by a lil bit and still cool as hell.

All things considered i think it’d be a completely fine buff to give it. The weapon really isn’t strong enough to be broken by reach, and i just like polearms so more spear builds would be dope.

Art [Art] [OC] A tiefling merc. You can hire her for 4 gold

I never had made a tiefling character before, but I saw an artwork that really inspired me to make this one. She’d probably an Eldritch Knight or maybe a Battle Master? Not sure. Her name is Sarah and she’s happy to be paid to loot dungeons and kill monsters. She’s a bit quirky and greedy, but always honest and fair in her dealings. Maybe if she met some special adventurers she could be swayed from her greed...  But that won’t happen so soon cause I don’t have a campaign to play her, ha!

Hello!!

Just wanted to do a post putting some feelers out in the community. I've been bookbinding for myself for a while now but never given any books to anyone bar friends and family. Recently tho I have rebound my 5e core books into one big tome and would love to make more, maybe sell them but no idea if people would be interested as they would have a cost ( books, leather, time ) and I don't know where and how I would sell em.

TL;DR would you wanna big tome and if so where and how would you wanna get one!

Thanks!

Name: Isagani "Iggy"
Occupation: Babaylan (pre-colonial Filipino healer/medium)

I'm new to DnD btw! So my friend and game master was guiding me through the different playable species I could choose from, and I immediately fell in love with Aarakocra (being a bird lover and all hihi). This makes Iggy my very first DnD character for our very first campaign >:3. I sadly don't have a proper backstory for them yet, lel. But the simplest premise that I'm working with right now is that they were seen as a "runt" by his flock, which led to his abandonment. He was then found by a Babaylan, and became an apprentice under her guidance.

5th Edition [OC] New kitchen, new campaign!

Post image
38 Upvotes

Last week we finished a decades-long dream of building our new kitchen. The new island looked like a great place to host a D&D game, so I found my old homemade flatscreen case and set things up. We had a blast and felt like we were in a TV studio, complete with colored lighting to fit the mood.

My son (on the left) is unconscious, which is why he looks like that.

The map is from this post. Thanks u/ShadowWhirl !

OC [OC] Hilda, the "one-horned Devil"

Hilda, the "one-horned Devil"

Hilda is a fighter Tiefling that I designed recently. She was a dragon hunter, part of a larger crew, and sold dragon skin, teeth, bones, etc., to the black market. She started hunting dragons at a very young age, following her elder brother. Her burn scars and lack of a horn are a mystery; people speculate they are the injury she sustained while hunting Zeroth, the dragon that occupied the abandoned Tiril castle, 10 years ago.

Now, she earns a living as a mercenary, hunting down anyone and anything. She is currently in the Kasafri kingdom.

Table Disputes Am I insane for wanting my party to stop treating their flaws (and bonds for that matter) as compulsions?

This is partially a rant, but also a genuine question.

Tl;Dr I play with a group that, nearly to the man, prefers making flawed characters and leaning into those flaws hard, to making competent heroes. And to be clear, I don't just mean characters with mechanical weaknesses that need to be accounted for, or negative personality traits, unresolved traumas, and things of that nature that influence how they interact with the rest of the party or NPCs. I mean like flaws which drive them to consistently make decisions with obvious, telegraphed, negative consequences as a matter of habit.

I'm not necessarily advocating for always making perfectly rational, selflessly altruistic characters, and I certainly don't do that myself. But I actively try to pick flaws and motivations for my characters who's consequences have limited potential to fuck things up for anyone other than myself, and have always treated flaws and bonds as *biases* towards particular behaviors, or modes of thinking, which can be resisted or controled or overridden when faced with sufficiently persuasive rationale. And I feel like the rest of the group treats flaws and bonds as compulsions their characters *must* act upon whenever the opportunity arises, regardless of context or circumstance. And the result is that a not insignificant chunk of our play time ends up being eaten up addressing easily avoidable problems resulting from one or another PC doing something obviously stupid because "it would be more interesting" and "that's what their character would do."

What are your thoughts on flaws and bonds? Because I see a lot of discourse around this topic that gives off the impression that a lot of people find games with characters that don't have strong bonds and fatal flaws boring or one dimensional. But I find that, for me personally, playing with characters who apparently lack the self control to *not* act upon their flaws and bonds every time creates a sort of cognitive dissonance where I feel like I'm constantly doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to come up with increasingly flimsy justifications for why my character would continue to hang around a bunch of self destructive bozos who just almost got him killed pointlessly for the 17th time this month.

5.5 Edition Necronomicon for an Evil Dead One-Shot [Art]

Hey everybody! I made a Necronomicon for an Evil-Dead-inspired one shot!

This contains useful spells, deadite powers, exorcisms, etc, all of which were helpful to my players for defeating deadites.

It also contained easter eggs for my previous campaign that only my players would understand, as well as easter eggs and hints for my future campaign.

The key was also a big part of the session, I hid it under my shirt for the whole session until my players got to the boss, which with a prepared action from a player, using Ray of Enfeeblement, the player was able to take the key fairly easily.

I had homebrew deathsave system using a d6. Immediately upon reaching 0 HP the players would roll and if they get a 1 they would die.

Upon death, their body would be possessed by a Kandarian daemon and their goal became killing their fellow players.

Flesh-merging was one of their powers, and so by the end all dead players became one giant flesh monster with 10 attacks per turn.

With one player left, (our final girl was my sister playing a Human Warlock, pact of the Fiend) they managed to get Nazkrul, the sword of death, kill a hag, enchant the sword with incantation, “Accede et accipe!” Roughly translated: “Come get some!”

(I had also brought my real sword as a prop and gave it to the player.)

They killed the giant flesh limb deadite, raising it above them as they showered in gallons of blood in true Evil Dead fashion.

Shoutout to u/OPLemonz for the Deadite statblock.

The session itself was chaotic, stressful, very unbalanced and I had to make up a lot of shit on the fly and the flesh merging became so confusing in regards to initiative that I fucked up the order several times lol.

Regardless my players had a very good time.

Happy Halloween everybody!

Now heres some info about my world so I can fill the word count lol:

Everscape:

Vingard
Known as the Land of the Warriors,  towering mountains encompass a frozen landscape. A cold, harsh climate ruled over by several warring jarls. Vingard breeds a culture of strong fighters to protect the cities from threats such as the Frost Giants that live in the northern glaciers. Generally, magic is distrusted as most Vingardians prefer to settle their disagreements with weapons. Some of the most renowned blacksmiths hail from this province, as such, Vingardian weapons are highly sought after.
Mostly home to humans, snow elves, goliaths, dwarves and firbolgs.

Fargrove
The birthplace of Godrick, the capital country of Everscape.
Fargrove was once a monarchy ruled by the dragon king, Virideus who was slain by the Funky Thugs. A landscape with abundant forests, rolling hills of grass and towering mountains, The Grove is known as the most magical and beautiful province of Everscape. The capital city of Viridian is governed by The Imperium.
Mostly home to humans, wood elves, fairies, satyrs, centaurs, gnomes, halflings and firbolgs.

olympia
Known as the Land of the Scholars.
A mountainous and grassy tundra region home to The Imperium, a rising empire born from the Capital Vasilais, one of the most technologically advanced cities in Everscape. The city has a complex water system that allows for renewable water filtered and purified by magic. Unlike Fargrove, Olympia is democratic republic with city-states, each with their own government. No two Olympian cities are alike. Within Olympia resides a wizarding school known as Mystica University.
Mostly home to humans, high elves, dwarves, orcs and goliaths.

Solcara
The Face of the Sun. A rainforest to the south and a desert to the north. Solcara is one of the most diverse regions in Everscape, as well as the largest province. Solcara has a lucrative merchant population because of the resource-abundant jungle. The people of Solcara have adapted to its hostile environment - whether that’s the city built atop towering trees to avoid the monsters below or riding large geckos across the dunes of the desert.
Mostly home to tabaxi, wood elves, sun elves, humans, dragonborn and orcs.
Gods & Pantheon
The main gods are depicted as dragons, with corresponding chromatic color or type, although gods can appear in humanoid and other various forms.

Gods
1. Godrick - King God of Life, Nature and Health - Green Dragon
2. Eave - Goddess of Infinity, Space and Stars - Astral Dragon
3. Nethron - God of Death - Black Dragon
4. Ozan - God of War - Red Dragon
5. Vincall - God of Frost - White Dragon
6. Smithe - God of Storms & Lightning - Blue Dragon
7. Kronos - God of Time - Golden Dragon

Quasigods - Lesser gods that are tied to a specific domain, location or landmark. Generally, these are not depicted as dragons.
1. Vern - Goddess of Springtime
2. Froth - God of Wintertime
3. Sol - Goddess of Summertime
4. Dus - God of Fall
5. Loki - God of Trickery, Mischief, Thievery, Stealth
6. Aara - Fairy goddess whose dominion is Lake Aara, she also essentially rules Fiefgarden.
7. Boitata - Fire serpent that protects the rainforests and deserts of Solcara

Dæmonlords are Monarchs of kingdoms in Helscape, another realm where the dead and souls are forced to fight in an eternal war. If you’re playing a warlock, you can choose from here!
1. Bal - King of the Dæmonlords and Helscape
2. Ashgoth - Dæmonlord of Fire and Destruction
3. Ogrebile - Dæmonlord of Acid and Plague
4.  The Abyss - Dæmonlord of the Oceans, Madness, Darkness
5. Slugcoin - Dæmonlord of Greed and Gluttony
6. Hornlech - Dæmonlord of Lust, Rape and Domination
7. Hathblood - Dæmonlord of Hatred and Bigotry
8. Agonon -  Dæmonlord of Grief and Despair

Finally getting to play dnd again (Probably) (hopefully) It looks like it’ll be a pirate themed campaign, and I’ve got some ideas I’m working out. I’ve got this fighter, a warlock, and an artificer.
Haven’t played many fighters so if you’ve got a fun subclass rec it’d be greatly appreciated. Also I’ve really gotta start getting better with names.
I’ll prolly be drawing up the other 2 as well, if I’ve got the time.

Misc My DM asks for a Perception roll before my attack rolls for Eldritch Spear. Any advice on talking points to negotiate with him?

Hey all, I'll be chatting with our DM later this week, so I'd appreciate any insight here!

Our combat is strictly theatre of the mind. Basically, I took Eldritch Spear (knowing it's not the most useful invocation, I know — but I liked the idea of sniping people for fun) and every time I've used it, our DM has asked me to roll perception before I roll for attack.

  • Example: An enemy was 200 feet away, nothing blocking my sight. I cast Eldritch Blast, and our DM said, "Roll Perception to see if you can aim that first." But...isn't that literally the point of me taking that invocation?

He's an otherwise great DM, but I don't know where to begin on how to address it besides, "Hey, I know it's already an unpopular Invocation, but I chose it for the fun distance. The RAW didn't state precursor roll, so now that I know you require it, can I at least pick a different invocation?"

NOTE: I'm not looking for advice on why Eldritch Spear isn't a good invocation to take; just some help from the community on how to defend the rationale of keeping it. Thank you! <3

5.5 Edition The new Curse of Corruption in the World of Warcraft book is opening up a really cheesy tactic for warlocks

Apparently, there is this new Eldritch Invocation in the 5e World of Warcraft book:

Curse of Corruption

Prerequisite: Level 2+ Warlock

When an enemy starts its turn cursed by a Warlock spell you cast (such as Hex), it must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or take Necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Okay, well, Hex lasts for hours and offers no initial saving throw. Instead of having the party fight some big bad boss, the warlock instructs the party to just... leave. Then the warlock tags the major enemy with Hex and runs away, maybe with a Dimension Door if the warlock is level 7+.

As far as I can tell, this works on the CR 30 tarrasque (the usual punching bag), and even more mystically inclined enemies are out of luck if they lack Dispel Magic or Remove Curse, as is the case with the spellcasting CR 24 dragons in the 2025 Monster Manual.

A warlock 2/sorcerer 2 can Subtle Spell this to surreptitiously assassinate people in a town or a city, too.

Or, instead of Subtle Spell or whatnot, we can bag of rats this. Hex a Tiny animal, kill it, then transfer the curse to the real target.

OC DnD Party by the Fire [OC][Art]

Post image
16 Upvotes

This picture is if my and some of my friends were a DnD Party. Maybe I should add some more friends to make a magical creature.

I never got to be part of a long running campaign although I would love to. I have filled in on some turns for a friend once. He was a monk character. I was told I was doing well although I didn’t understand how the game worked yet. I did get the finishing blow on a giant wolf.

I also really liked all of the DND inspired shows and movies I’ve seen. I got the idea for this piece after watching DnD No Honor Among Thieves with Chris Pine. Saw it twice actually.

I also got really into Vox Machina before knowing it was a Critical Role Campaign. I didn’t yet know what Critical Role was but I do now and still need to finish the Mighty Nein. What do you think? Should I do more fantasy art?

TL;DW is that according to their own research, it was too complicated for the average player. People were not reading the rulebooks or their character sheets. I know here we're all pro-gamers but if I'm being honest most players I encounter offline fit the bill he describes.

Working on the dragonborns! The rendering takes a while and i'm working while studying for College so be patient you guys, i'm not procrastinating

As you can see, i went for a more bulkier build for the red Dragonborn, this can apply for both male and female, but of course, there is room for variation. Also i imagine younger specimens being more Slim, like a Red Dragon Wyrmling. Be free to leave your thoughs and ideas

OC [OC] Handcrafted a glowing forest portal diorama out of real pine bark, moss, and an infinity mirror. Perfect vibe for D&D game nights!

Step through the hidden wooden door inside an ancient tree stump! I built this infinity mirror portal diorama using organic textures (real pine bark, twigs, natural straw, pebbles, and jute) combined with a built-in LED optical effect. The entire structure is crafted on a sturdy base, featuring a custom wooden door with copper hinges and a discreetly hidden button on top that turns on the infinite tunnel light. I made this as a dark fantasy piece to bring a magical, mysterious atmosphere to tabletop D&D sessions or room decor. What do you think?

Art Bridge Fortress [Art]

Post image
11 Upvotes

A long stone bridge stretches across a ravine, with deep water flowing underneath. A small but well-fortified set of towers and walls stand on the middle of the bridge. As this bridge is one of the only roads through the mountain, it is of vital importance to the kingdom and its ruler will make sure it is well defended.

Welcome to the Bridge Fortress! This map features a small fortified bridge that stretches across a wide river. The fort also features a small dock, through which emergency rations and soldiers can be sent. This map pack features Lava, Ruined, Night, Underdark, and Winter variations.

Foundry VTT modules with pre-built walls and lighting are available to patrons.
