Mod Announcement 🔔 A reminder about US progressive liberals

Hello everyone! With the US elections in just a few weeks we are all bracing for a flood of posting about liberal progressives and socdems along with the usual trickle of "republicans bad" posts.

As such we have determined that this the time for a few reminders;

\1. This is an international sub. Please ensure that all US politics are flaired as "USA"

2.Posts about socialist movements and socialist candidates are welcome, as are posts about the relationships of socdems and progressives to local socialists movements.

Example good posts: * Melat Kiros speaks on embracing the socialist label * Talrico speaks on his relationship with the DSA * New Poll for Mai Vang shows...

\3. Posts that are purely about speeches, statement, electoral polls, or other "general news" about progressive and socdem candidates will be removed as "unrelated to democratic socialism and leftism". No we don't care about Talarico, he's not a socialist. Neither is Abdul El-Sayed.

Example bad posts: * New poll for Talarico shows... * Abdul El-Sayed campaign speech video post * Hakeem Jeffries on the 'blue tsunami' the dems are expecting"

For your reference this is the list of socialist-endorsed candidates running for the US congress. If you are aware of other socialist candidates for federal office please let us know: * Rashida Tlaib * Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez * Chris Rabb * Melat Kiros * Darializa Avila Chevalier * Claire Valdez * Donavan McKinney * Angela Gonzales Torres * Mai Vang * Lauren Jewett

Sub-Saharan Africa The Tigray war has just restarted and the U.S ambassador to Ethiopia shared a one sided statement in support of the UAE backed neoliberal govt of Ethiopia. Please read the post below for more info. Tigray defended itself and was characterized as the problem just like in Palestine's case

USA U.S. income concentration has returned to Gilded Age levels

Post image

The US income divide has not always been as vast as it is today. In response to the staggering inequality of the Gilded Age in the early 1900s, social movements and progressive policymakers fought successfully to make things more egalitarian through policies like fair taxation, increased unionization, and other reforms.

Unfortunately the 80s saw the beginning of the "neoliberal era", where many of these policies were undone and the country returned to extreme levels of inequality. According to UC Berkeley, the ratio between the average income of the top 0.1 percent and the bottom 90 percent already reached Gilded Age levels in the years preceding the 2008 financial crisis.

Are we allowing criminal immigrants in the country now?

It seems Republicans will have to work hard to explain this and his other brother who also has a prison warrant. It seems we go after only poor immigrants. Not the corrupts one. This is a great time to vote. Think our democracy.

Request your representative to not be part of this and demand deportation instead.

USA The Trump administration has thrown assault charges at anti-ICE protesters across the country, only to watch case after case unravel in court. A sweeping new report exposes the flimsy evidence, prosecutorial misconduct and growing resistance from judges, juries, and grand juries.

The USA is granting the failed, wannabe, authoritarian visas and taking him in to the country even though Brazil had demanded his passport? How flagrant does USA need to be that we are controlled by fascists before we do something?

As an American this is incredibly concerning this POS is in our country, harbored by our own government. We should demand he be returned to Brazil and be tried.

International Brazilians ❤️ the US: Let's Join Forces Against Extremism!

To our friends and young people in the US,

We are reaching out to you directly from Brazil, down here in South America. Recently, through the power of young voters, working people, and community organizing, we managed to push back against the rise of far-right extremism and MAGA-style politics in our country. It was a massive victory for the people.

Right now, you are in the middle of a crucial election, and you have the power to do the exact same thing.

Brazilians have always loved American culture, and our people have a deep history of friendship. We are not rivals, and we never will be. But to keep our democracy strong and bring back genuine cooperation and peace across the Americas, we need you to get organized and mobilized right now.

* Organize online: Build dedicated channels on social media, share creator content, and master digital campaigning. Look into the digital strategies used by Andre Janones and the Workers' Party in Brazil to counter disinformation effectively.

* Mobilize on the ground: Gather, protest, and make your voices heard. Show the world that Trump and MAGA do not represent the majority of Americans, and that you stand for unity, not division.

URGENT: Far-right allies and figures linked to the previous administration, like Flavio Bolsonaro, have fled to the US to escape accountability for corruption, money laundering, and attempts to undermine our democracy. We urge the American public and officials not to grant safe haven to those trying to destabilize foreign democracies.

When our President, Lula, was a young factory worker, he lost a finger operating a heavy press at 3 AM. Far-right politicians used to mock him for it, calling him nine-fingered. But we reclaimed that insult. Much like the famous American slogan 'We are the 99%,' we say: WE ARE ALL 9-FINGERS!

Let that lost finger symbolize the hard work, sweat, and dignity of everyday working people that is being taken from us.

Stand with us. Share this message, mobilize your campuses, and let us secure a peaceful, democratic future for the entire American continent together!

USA If Talarico came out as a DemSoc, I'd vote for him harder!

Post image

James Talarico has never identified as a Democratic Socialist, yet Ken Paxton still claims he is one and a so-called, "Radical Leftist."

Like, at this point, no matter what you say as a Liberal, Republicans will ALWAYS use the Red Scare tactic to demonize you, and smear you.

At this point, I think everyone should just identify as DemSocs just to prove a point to all the disillusioned people that Republican Politicians are just straight up liars with absolutely zero redeeming qualities.

I mean, I wish we had a Democratic Socialist in Texas (or at least one that was popular). If Talarico came out as DemSoc, I would vote for him harder lol.

Also, the "Make it too big to rig" is crazy, considering Texas Republicans have been in power for 3 decades. Imagine losing a "Rigged Election" when your party controls all 3 branches of the government..

Anyways, before anyone asks, yes, I already voted in Texas. If you're in Dallas, make sure to vote in support to reduce homelessness, and increase access to mental health treatment.

USA Income from labor is taxed at higher rates than income from owning capital, at every level

Post image
318 Upvotes

Income earned from wages is consistently taxed at a higher rate than comparable amounts of income earned passively through capital gains or dividends. The top federal marginal tax rate on long-term capital income is 23.8% while the top marginal ordinary income and payroll tax rates on wages is 40.8%.

And this actually understates how bad things are. 75% of the benefits from the reduced tax rate on capital income goes to the top 1% of households. Households with over $1 million of income receive 70% of long-term capital gains, but only 8.5% of ordinary wages (while households with under $200,000 of income earn just 7% of all long-term capital gains but 56% of all ordinary wages).

Cross-posted from my substack, edited with photopea, data by the Joint Committee on Taxation.

USA 7 days till the U.S. Midterms...

We all know the Republican Party is the sword of the oligarchs, multinational business lobbies, powerful & predatory industries/tycoons, and general corporatocracy.

We know the GOP is full of reactionary/regressive "leaders" that are nothing more then stereotypical snake oil salespeople, con-artists, scam-artists, grifters, and hustlers.

We know that the worst of the worst have created and fostered a type of lowest common denominator style populism (A cult mob) to more easily misinform/mislead.

We know this sphere is full of Ultra Rich Powerful Predatory Bad Actors of varying disgusting types. We've seen that not only with the Epstein nightmare but with Vivek Ramaswamy and his ad. Truly fucking horrible and gross.

The powerful & predatory of this sphere are against the Labour Movement, against the Environmentalist Movement, against the Women's Rights Movement/Civil Rights Movement, against the Peace Movement, and pretty much everything else that is about making a brighter & better world.

It won't fix everything but lessening their Death Cult influence is a big step in the right direction. Period.

Europe Please help for a democratic socialist movement in Hungary

Hello everyone! We are the Most Mozgalom or, as it would be called in English, the Now Movement.

Our movement went public in July, and we have already gained quite a few supporters. Most of our members are democratic socialists, but we also have social democrats, ecosocialists, social libertarians, and revolutionary socialists among us.

Unfortunately, the opportunities for this ideology are quite limited in Hungary. That is why we would like to ask you, the international community, for advice and support.

Fantastic talk by secular leftist Genetically Modified Skeptic on how the religious right leverages institutional power/money to control the narrative.

I've been continually impressed with GMS and his ability to speak on how we must build alternative power systems for the oppressed while not giving in to right-wing framing.
