I see a tab for blocked accounts or muted accounts but not this.

I did a little experiment. I wanted to see which platform has more relevant posts and what kind of posts, etc. There are 2 things I want to note. First of all, I'm not saying which one is better. Second of all, I'm doing this because I'm curious after seeing the rating for X on Trustpilot is 1.4/5.

What I did:

1. I created accounts on Bluesky and X on the same day. Registration on X is quite straightforward, ~5 mins, whereas I had to spend ~10 mins on Bluesky, including verification.
2. The accounts were set to have the same birthday, similar username, and same interests: tech, science. I followed only science, space news etc.
3. No posting or commenting on any posts. This is to minimise the influence of the algorithm.

Also note that % is rough estimation only.

What was shown:

1. Interestingly, NASA got recommended on both platforms. On X, I saw nature, NIH, WHO, National Geographic, etc. Quite many interesting accounts. On Bluesky, I have no idea what the others are except for Space. com, NASA, and Bluesky itself (auto-followed). Also, I did register on X before, and I was auto-followed to Elon, but now that changed because I had to search him up and there are 3 Elons (surprise).
2. NASA's posts on Bluesky got tens of *likes, and they got fewer comments, 1-2 usually. On X, they got thousands of likes, comments are mainly compliments, chinese and another random language I've no idea.
3. Lots of weird and random posts on X in the For you tab (def not for me). But I remember one or two years ago the posts were crazier. Remind me of old time on YT when people used all sort of language. Elon still posts random things, as I know of.
4. I didn't see anything politics on X so far (back then there was a lot though, maybe there was a change in the algorithm?), but lots of memes and comments that seem like advertisement. On Bluesky, about 30-40 % of roughly 40 posts I scrolled past were about politics, which attracted the majority of comments. Other posts were about casual things like: my cat, art, animals, nature, etc. Some memes and few use of profanity. After scrolling for awhile, the frequency of politics posts increase, although I mentioned that the only accounts I followed were STEM-related, without commenting or posting anything since creation.

On X there are some accounts with blue check, but they turn out to be not credible because of AI usage in the posts. Also some posts have significantly more likes, a lot more than in Bluesky. I haven't encountered any arguments on X so far. In the past there was a lot.

Many science posts on X got little attention, but the space-related ones had like thousands likes.

About 40 % of roughly 30 posts in For you tab are memes/individual. ~30% mixed with the tech/science posts. 20 % from accounts that seem credible but didn't follow, like sports.

The number of likes is either thousands or less than 10, and I don't really see a clear trend, especially when I haven't encountered any politics posts despite scrolling for about 20 more of them.

1. Besides from politics and memes, I don't see much difference in the way people talk to each other. If there are nice or neutral comments, they are indistinguishable just based on whether those belong to Bluesky or X.

Was this a fair test? How did you personally experience?

I know I can ban the phrase, but that doesn't do anything to stop them from interacting with me, only blocking does and I'm tired of having to block and report everyone to does something terrible.

For context there's a fanfiction I used to read, I shared some criticism of it and now the fanbase has been harassing me, I can block and report, but there's always a steady stream. I could turn off the app and leave, but I'd rather not be pushed out by bullies. If I could just block everyone who has mentioned the fanfiction's title it would make it much easier for me to use the app.

Just that... I have a lot of mutuals I don't dislike at all! But we don't interact and I'm moving more towards reposting nature photography... I don't really want to be mutuals with them but blocking is aggressively harsh 😭! Especially for the artists I still want to follow and support ... I just don't want them following me back.... How do I politely remove followers with no blocking involved?

I have to say it is a sheer joy to have a 500 character limit on Mastodon, along with being able to edit posts. Could Bluesky do the same?

Every time I open an image and close it, the UI does this. It depends on how far down I scroll before opening an image.

Also, it resets the feed to the "top" instead of on the post of the image I expanded, leaving a blank header above that.

One last edit: Unable to repost due to it snapping back to the top of the feed.

Feedback and requests welcome

I'm looking for a way to have my Following timeline automatically scroll to the very top and show the newest posts as they happen, without me having to manually refresh or tap a "New Posts" pop-up.
Does the official app have a setting for this that I'm missing? If not, are there any third-party clients (like Skeets, Graysky, etc.) or browser extensions that support this "live stream" timeline behavior?

Have been getting a lot of them recently. Is this normal for other artists? Should I just ignore them or something?

The app used an obscene amount of data this month. I wasn't monitoring it until today though. Does this data usage make sense for how long I use it? I do recognize that I use it much longer than the average user.

I tried searching this sub for "data usage" and saw people that called themselves regular users say it takes up like 6GB a month.

Is it because I mostly follow artists? With all those images?
