Between Dame, Steph, Harden, Kawhi, LeBron, KD, and PG, who did you personally have the most fun watching score in their primes?

Not necessarily as an overall player, just in terms of watching them score the basketball from an aesthetic perspective

GENERAL QUESTION What are your basketball abilities?

For example I love to fake a lot of my moves in offense, whether it being asking for a screen and then just attack the second I asked.

You can also tell me what skills you would want to develop.

GENERAL QUESTION What makes basketball so appealing to watch and play?

I’ve never really understood the appeal of basketball, especially when it comes to watching it professionally. I’m curious to hear from people who genuinely enjoy it.

What draws you to basketball? Is it the skill, athleticism, tactics, close games, players and rivalries, or something else entirely?
One thing I’ve always wondered is how much height matters in basketball. It’s largely genetic, and seems to provide a bigger advantage here than in most other team sports. Does that affect how you view the sport, or is it simply another aspect of the game?

I’m not trying to hate on basketball; I genuinely want to understand what makes it so enjoyable to play and watch. Maybe I’m missing something that makes it click.

Thanks😊

[No Paywall] Inside Steph Curry and Draymond Green’s secret language: ‘It’s like you got a twin’

Steve Kerr chuckled at the memory.

The Golden State Warriors had just wrapped up a training camp practice in Hawaii, and Kerr was standing near the corner of the gym on the BYU-Hawaii campus, retelling a story about the bond between his two longest-tenured players.

Before the Warriors headed back to their five-star beach club for another night in paradise, the man who has coached Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for more than 12 years recalled a memorable moment from last season.

“Last year, in a timeout, Draymond turns to Steph, and he goes, ‘Let’s run Milwaukee,'” Kerr told The Athletic. “And I’m like, ‘What the hell is Milwaukee?’ I’m like, ‘We didn’t have a play called Milwaukee.’ And Dray was like, ‘Oh, no, no, sorry coach. That’s just our code word for an action that we do.’ And I’m like, ‘Ah, OK.’

“They ran it, and of course I recognized it. I knew exactly what it was. But that’s the level of communication between the two of them. And I guarantee you none of the other players on the team would have known what Milwaukee was, except for those two. It’s just one of their wrinkles out of their high ball screens. So that only comes with playing together for years and years.”

Steph Curry's Recent Memorable Moments

A couple of weeks later, after a preseason game in Las Vegas, Green broke into a smile when asked about the mysterious play call.

“That’s the only two people that needed to know what was going on,” Green said.

So what was it?

“They still don’t know,” he said between bites of postgame dinner. “I can’t tell ’em. It’s the magic that me and Steph know about. And Steve.”

People who run adult rec leagues or pickup runs: how do you handle payments and no-shows?

I’m building an app for people who organize adult rec basketball (registration, scheduling, collecting fees automatically). Before I build more, I want to hear from people who actually run leagues.

If you run one:

  • How do you collect money right now?
  • What happens when someone doesn’t pay or doesn’t show?
  • What’s the most annoying part of running it?

If you’re up for a 15-min call, I’ll pay you $20 for your time. Comment or DM. Not linking anything, just trying to learn!

[The Athletic NBA Staff]: Heat struggling. Yaxel rising. West is Spurs’ to lose. How real are these NBA trends?

The 0-4 Heat will be fighting to make the Play-In

Raise your hand if you had Giannis Antetokounmpo’s new team starting the season with a worse record than his old one.

Waiting. Still waiting. Yeah, didn’t think so.

Even his old Milwaukee Bucks squad managed to win a game in its first four, which is more than Miami can say after falling to Minnesota, Detroit, Charlotte and Dallas. After all these years of speculation about whether the two-time MVP and one-time champion would leave for greener pastures, he finds himself facing an uphill battle that’s not all that different from the one he left behind. So far, anyways.

Amick: The most concerning issue here, by far, has been the clunky fit between Heat big man Bam Adebayo and his new frontcourt mate. The three-time All-Star who scored 83 points in a single game in March is now averaging just 11.8 (compared to 20.1 last season), 7.3 rebounds (vs. 10) and 3.5 assists (up from 3.2). The Heat’s defensive rating is just 24th in the league, and the offense is even worse (27th). Miami’s net rating is 28th. And no, that’s not a typo.

Between that difficult dynamic, the questionable backcourt of Davion Mitchell and Klay Thompson and a host of other problems that have already been revealed, missing the Play-In together is legitimately in play. Verdict: Very real

Woike: Oh yeah – unless they make a drastic trade. I’ve really disliked the fit between Antetokounmpo and Adebayo. Their defensive strengths seem to be duplicative, and neither provides the other with any real spacing.

Antetokounmpo still has a ton of pop — just ask Daniel Gafford. But the rest of the roster just seems kind of dead-legged to me. In a league where you have to be big and athletic, the Heat seem to not be enough of either — even with Antetokounmpo and Bam.

I trust deeply in Antetokounmpo’s desire to win, and everyone involved here had to know that this was going to be a multi-stage buildout of the roster. But so far, so ehhh.  Verdict: Real

Nehm: It has been ugly in Miami. So, in a loaded Eastern Conference, it might not be crazy to think they’ll be fighting to make the Play-In without getting things straightened out quickly to right the ship after a brutal first week.

Antetokounmpo has not struggled individually to open the season, averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5 assists per game, but the Heat have struggled with him on the floor, despite the gaudy numbers. With Antetokounmpo on the floor, the Heat’s offensive rating is 99.6 and their defensive rating is 120.3.

While Antetokounmpo tries to will the Heat into good situations, his teammates have struggled to find success in their new Giannis-centric ecosystem. Adebayo has averaged just 11.8 points per game, while shooting 16.7 percent from 3. Andrew Wiggins has made only 12.5 percent of his triples. And while Klay Thompson has shot it better than both of them, he is making only 33.3 percent from 3.

After two brutal defensive performances to start the season, Miami’s defense has kept them in each of the last two games, but their offense has looked disjointed all season long and seems destined to present questions the Heat will struggle to answer all season long. Verdict: Real

New Coach

Sorry for probably being the 100th person to post a thread like this.

My wife "volunteered" me to coach my daughter's 4th grade basketball team. I have a lot of coaching experience in other sports, but zero of it is basketball. Can someone point me to some good resources so I can have some idea of how to build practice plans? I went on YouTube, but I don't know enough about this to know what's good and what's not. I coach lacrosse and a lot of the stuff on there isn't actually good for developing the kids, so I don't want to unknowingly fall into that trap with basketball.

Any help is appreciated.

When a better player comes to your pickup run

We all know there are levels to basketball. It's so fascinating to see it happen in real time. Today a former college player (let's call him Z) came to my weekly run. He was the smallest guy on the court but he made all the regulars look silly. When they picked the teams, I didn't know who he was. So our team looked very undersized and I thought they stacked the teams the other way. Boy was I wrong.

The guys who normally cook everyone (let's call them A and J) were matched up with Z and got smoked. A and J were visibly frustrated trying to get shots off. They normally hit shots from anywhere on the court, but they were putting up bricks cause their shots were altered. J is usually yapping the whole game but today he was silent, not a single line of trash talk. Z stole the ball from them several times.

Z outrebounded all the big men. He threw the most accurate yet easy to catch cross court outlet passes I've ever received. He made me look like Randy Moss getting easy layups. If our team was down, it didn't matter. Z would just pull up from NBA 3 point range a couple times and we'd be right back in it. Or he would drive, do some footwork and hit an easy mid range. Best of all, he got all of our teammates involved and everyone was having fun. Needless to say, our team won all 8 games LoL.

NBA Zion Williamson, Trae Young and 7 others to watch on NBA League Pass

Mikel Brown Jr., Brooklyn (2 national games)

The 2026 NBA Draft class was full of point guards with promise. Brown is one to watch. He has a teammate on the wing who can score (Michael Porter Jr.) and a former All-Star at power forward (Julius Randle) to work with as he learns the NBA. The Nets are bringing Brown along slowly, sitting him out for the second half of back-to-back games on Sunday as he eases into the league after some injuries.

There are going to be ups and downs with a young point guard, particularly as he tries to find his footing next to the Nets’ guard-heavy class from a year ago, led by the promising Egor Dëmin. Expectations aren’t high, but Brown’s ceiling could be if he reaches his potential. The Nets have a lot of first-round picks and need Brown to stand out and give hope to a team that has never been in a bigger shadow after the Knicks’ championship.

Tyler Herro, Milwaukee (2 national games)

Herro had an interesting offseason. There was the incident when Bam Adebayo punched him in Las Vegas. He said earlier this month Bucks’ practices were just as intense, if not more intense, than those of the Miami Heat, a subtle jab at “Heat Culture.”

Herro was the key player acquired from Miami in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade. He’s a confident Milwaukee native who has the opportunity to be the focal point of a rebuilding team looking to surprise.

Ty Jerome, Memphis (2 national games)

Memphis’ Ja Morant era ended when he was traded to Portland, and the Grizzlies handed their offense to Jerome, who is in his eighth season. After stops in Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Golden State and Cleveland, Jerome is off to a great start in Memphis, dropping a career-high 45 points in the season opener against Utah. He will be the engine of the Memphis offense. The Grizzlies are off to a 4-0 start, and Jerome has scored at least 28 points in three of four games.

Physicality: Young Gen vs New Gen

So I've been playing ball for quite a while, and the biggest complaint I get is that people think contact on D is a foul. I understand that the rules of the game have changed a bit, but it's extremely annoying to have young cats call fouls all the time for a little physicality. Next thing you know they are calling a flagrant one. I was taught to never allow the easy basket, like ever.

Does anybody know the actual official rules (Either NBA or FIBA) on if you're allowed to shift from heel to toe while pivoting, in a way that lets you slowly move forwards?

I'm seeing a lot of disagreement and controversy on this, nobody seems to agree, and I can't find any rules talking specifically about this. All sources I've seen when looking it up point to some random reddit comment or something. Does anybody know the actual rule regarding this?

Coaches, How do you teach kids to keep trying when they’re not good at something yet?

Something I keep coming back to when I’m talking with young players is how they carry
themselves when things aren’t going their way.
You miss a layup. You lose the ball trying your weaker hand. Your teammate makes a bad pass.
What happens next?

I want coaches teaching that part too. Give the kid a simple next action: get back, find your player,
talk on defense, encourage your teammate. Don’t leave them standing there replaying the
mistake.

And we’ve got to give them room to try things. If every failed attempt gets them embarrassed or
immediately pulled out, why would they take a risk the next time?

With an eight-year-old, I’d keep it simple: try the move, make a mistake, try again. With an older
player, we can talk through the decision. What did you see? What could you do differently?

I don’t need every kid to be loud or smiling all practice. Some kids are quiet. I care about whether
they stay involved and how they treat the people around them.

Getting good takes time, effort and a lot of days where you don’t look good yet. Stack those days.

That includes recovery and having a life outside basketball.
Coaches and parents, what helps a kid try again instead of shutting down?
