How Does Meta/Google/Reddit telemetry actually work?

Hi.

I am curious to better understand how telemetry in apps like Instagram actually work.

I recently started playing the Binding Of Isaac and my Reels feed is suddenly full of Isaac content. I have never searched for Isaac content in the app, or previously engaged with creators that talk about the game. I am sure this something most people who use Meta apps can relate to, this is just my recent example that got me wondering about how the infrastructure of this functions.

  • How did Meta's algorithm learn this about me?
  • Is Google/Reedit/ISP sharing my browsing activity with Meta?
  • Is Meta listening to me via my device microphone? (this is the common conspiracy, but I am not sure it's actually an efficient way to do this)
  • Is Meta tracking my device activity even when I am not using Instagram? If so, how?

I did search Google for discussions, I've watched YouTube videos, and looked at Reddit posts about the game but never on Instagram or any Meta platform. I've had Instagram open while the game was playing in the background, and I've mentioned playing the game to my friend while we were on the phone and had Instagram open at the same time.

To be clear, am not complaining about this (that's a separate topic), I am sure I consented to this level of tracking when opening my account. I want to understand how apps like Instagram build telemetry to track users across different platforms, and from what sources are they likely taking from?

Thank you!

Java Looking to Collaborate on a Spring Boot Project

Hey everyone! Is anyone working on a Spring Boot project and looking for a contributor? I'm learning Java backend development and would love to collaborate, contribute to a real project, and learn from other developers along the way.

Javascript How to start? Your views, thoughts and advice needed!

Hello everyone, I am a beginner in programming and coding and just recently started learning html and c language for web development. I would like to get into app development and build mobile apps but while searching for how to start, got confused by so many terms I have no idea about. The one thing I learned is I should start with javascript, so I had one question regarding that. Is javascript different for web development vs app development? The source I'm learning from is for web development, so would learning from there be considered learning wrong?

If you have any other tips I really really appreciate it. I have no idea what I'm doing but I essentially only have upto 6 months to either build a website and earn or app and earn due to some family issues.

I would be learning it side by side with web development as I learnt that for web development I would need mastery over quite a few languages before one of my websites can be enough to start producing some golden eggs or just eggs, meanwhile app development can be done using one language. Is that true?

How Do Developers Write Reliable Production Code?

• Upvotes

Hey man, I'm working on my project, and I'm facing a problem. I can't write production level code. My code often breaks during the development pipeline, while integrating APIs, connecting API keys, and handling other backend issues.

How do experienced developers prevent these kinds of problems?

I understand system design and software architecture fairly well, but I'm not very confident in writing production quality code.

Right now, I'm using Claude Code. Are there any other AI coding tools that are as good as Claude, or maybe free or more affordable? I've heard about Kimi and DeepSeek.

Which one is better for writing production quality code? I'd really appreciate your advice.
