Alan Wake: Design Works update, release in February 2027
From the mass email of today, apparently it's delayed until February, but it's going to be massive!
You can still pre order the book (the Deluxe Edition is sold out though) from their website:
https://www.lostincult.co.uk/alanwake
The email:
Over the last few months, we’ve been applying the finishing touches to one of Lost In Cult’s most ambitious projects yet – Alan Wake: Design Works**.**
We can now confirm the project will be shipping in February 2027.
In the process of creating the book, we’ve conducted 30 interviews and pored over many hundreds of assets, all in service of producing the definitive story of Remedy Entertainment’s astonishing duology (not forgetting American Nightmare, of course).
For both Lost In Cult and author Alex Spencer, this project has been a real labour of love, and expanded well beyond its original scope. The result? Around 90,000 words of interviews, insights and analysis across almost 450 pages – making it comfortably our biggest Design Works book to date. Here are some more details from Alex on what to expect:
“Remedy’s games mean an awful lot to me, as I know they do to the rest of their fans – and a large part of that is the thought and love that has been poured into every last detail. That only became more apparent after the many, many hours I spent talking to the people who worked on them, from developers and artists to musicians and, yes, actors. I thought I knew everything about these games, but these conversations shone light into corners I didn’t even realise were there waiting to be illuminated.
“That creative philosophy of giving your all is one I wanted to honour in the resulting book, an effort that Lost In Cult has been incredibly supportive of. We’ve bumped up the page count to make sure every fascinating story and detail that was shared with me remains intact – and to showcase as much of the incredible art behind these games as possible. I’ve now pored over every last page, as laid out by the book’s brilliant designers, multiple times, and they never cease to amaze me. I want to thank you all for your patience. But I mean, we’re Alan Wake fans, right? We’re used to a little waiting.
And you don’t just have to take Alex’s word for it. Here are some near-final spreads from the book to whet your appetite.
Finally, Remedy was happy to share these words from none other than Clay Murphy, co-writer of the screenplay for Alan Wake II**:**
"His name is Alex Spencer. He's a writer. He dove into the darkest depths of the Alan Wake franchise and re-emerged clutching this book in his hands. Its pages held a joyful exploration of the people and ideas behind the games. The trees surrounded him, watching in silent approval."
We only get one opportunity to dig this deep into this beloved series, so it seemed only right to invest the additional time and money to make it as comprehensive as possible. This does mean that shipping will fall outside our original estimated window. Pending final licensor approvals and subsequent production scheduling, we anticipate we’ll be able to deliver Alan Wake: Design Works in February 2027. We are incredibly grateful to everyone associated with the project, and we thank you for your patience as we take that extra time to deliver a book befitting this unforgettable development story.

Important resources PSA Regarding Spam Posts on r/AlanWake

Hello Flashlight Wielders 🔦 ,
Whilst we have your eyes after the debut trailer for Control Resonant at The Game Awards 2025, I wanted to briefly discuss something which actually impacts a lot of other subreddits, with very little control on preventing it.
You may sometimes see, once in a while, what looks like a post from someone showing off a t-shirt, or wall art that they "purchased". For example, do any of these look familiar to you:

If so, these are most likely spam posts that we get very often on this subreddit. Other gaming subreddits get these too, usually of some sort of "merch". I wanted to make this PSA to make sure you DO NOT interact with these posts. Sometimes they will come with spam link comments, which I'm sure some unsuspecting users will not be aware is spam and could be subject to malware or even payment scams.
We do what we can to remove these when they appear, even trying to put spam filters in for common links and phrases that these posts share, but unfortunately our spam filters can only do so much and some slip through the cracks. Please just report these as spam as and when you see them.
However to preface this, NOT EVERY POST IS A SPAM POST. Sometimes it genuinely is just one of the amazing members of the fandom looking to show something off. So, how can one tell if a post is spam or not? 99% of the time, check the user account. If the account was made the day of the post with the only place they've posted is here to post this, it's usually a bot, similar to this account here (name has been removed):

Often another way to know it's spam, if the "poster" has posted what looks like the same image twice, with one just a tiny bit zoomed in, it's usually again spam.
We used to have a system in place where anybody posting more than 2 pictures would be automatically flagged to us, but with Alan Wake 2's release + Photo Mode, we had to scale that back to allow people to show off their incredible shots. Obviously if spam posts begin to increase, we may have to revert back to this system.
Please be mindful of these spam posts, report them to us to remove, and DO NOT interact with any links that may appear amongst them.
Thank you for reading, and remember, stay in the light.

Fan Content Alan wake Thermos
Finally made Alan Wake 2 thermos!
Since scalpers bought up all the official ones, I had to make one myself.
Used a regular Airam 0.45 as a base. Even finding one of those was a pain, though.

Discussion Are we sure Alan thwarted [REDACTED]'s plans? Spoiler
So there seems to be a common understanding about Tom Seine/Zane and his manipulation of Alan Wake. Zane lets Alan believe that Scratch is his dark doppelganger, manipulating things behind the scenes. He comes across as a chancer, and he collaborated with Scratch on Return once Alan had "given up" before Scratch abandoned him.
But as we learn, he's still stringing Alan along. Since Scratch is just Alan with the Dark Presence possessing him. But really, it's just Alan's darkness made manifest. And, as we see in the time loop, the "edits" that Scratch makes are actually by Alan Wake. All of Return is written by Alan Wake. Both the darker earlier draft & the last second edits in pen. Tom Zane has him believe otherwise because it seems to suit his agenda.
What is his agenda? It seems like it's to escape the Dark Place (possibly with or without Alan himself). He gets Alan drunk & drugged and helps him write Return (much the same way Barbara Jagger does in the first game). Along with this, he makes a "companion piece," a horror short film called Yöton Yö/Nightless Night.
Now, Nightless Night is a very, very dark bizarro version of Return that draws upon Watery/Bright Falls history (Huortori Brothers, etc). It stars Sami Jarvi as Alex Casey. Some themes like a Secret Murderous Cult, a writer trapped in a Dark Place trying to escape, and the Protagonist returning home. And it ends with Alex being sacrificed to resurrect the Writer (played by Tom Seine) from the well.
The common wisdom is that the original draft of Return (before Alan's pen edits) had Alex Casey as the Protagonist (though Saga clearly played an important roll) and, presumably, had a narrative more in line with the film Nightless Night.
That this was Tom Zane's master plan to engineer his own escape (and possibly Alan's as well - maybe they're aspects of the same person).
And then, in doing his last minute edits, Alan scuppers this plan and rewrites Return with Saga as the protagonist. And saves Alex Casey in the process.
BUT. Did he foil Tom Zane's plans? The most important part, it seems, is that after Alan learns of Tom's betrayal/manipulation and kills him , he sees Tom wake up and yell "Cut." "Now that's drama," he says with a smile and rubs the fake blood off the gunshot wound on his forehead.
All that manipulation is seemingly an act. Tom Zane didn't actually get "caught out" in a lie. He didn't actually try to switch places with Alan at the last second. It was all for the sake of "drama."
Like in Alan Wake 1, Tom the Filmmaker acts as a guide to Alan. He clearly has some insidious ends (it's suggested he may, in fact, be the real Mr. Scratch in the Control DLC - Alan's doppelganger). But he creates these film scenes within reality where he plays the untrustworthy manipulator (like Teddy in Memento), both an ally and an antagonist. All for the sake of some end, Alan doesn't understand.
So what if Nightless Night and all that isn't Tom's master plan at all? What if it's all about getting Alan to the place he needs him to be? As in, maybe it's a double or triple bluff, and Tom wants Alan to "foil" his plan for Nightless Night. What if Zane wants Alan to achieve "enlightenment" and become the Master of Many Worlds? Engineer great drama in order to get Alan to overcome himself and his darker, self-destructive instincts. And that requires Alan to contend with various dramatic archetypes. With Tom Zane playing the trickster character.
What does anyone else think?

A throwaway account due to preferring anonymity, but I was given this game signed by leadership teams of Remedy and Microsoft as a launch celebration gift when I worked on the game during my time at Remedy.

Question Question about Night Springs DLC Spoiler
Are the haters supposed to represent critics of Remedy games? I feel like many of the complaints like not understanding the story, the characters being too sad, the story making you feel dumb, etc could easily be complaints people in the real world could have with a game like Alan Wake or Control

Where would you put each Chapter Song during gameplay if you had to? Spoiler
So a few Chapter Songs like Angers Remorse play during an ingame sequence - but most don't. So where do you think the best place for each Chapter Song would be?
*Follow You Into the Dark - Nightingale Boss Fight
*Dark, Twisted & Cruel - 1st Scratch Fight
*This Road - maybe hear the different versions on Radios throughout the Dark Place (like Pat Maine)

Discussion Is Alex Casey also an artistic collaboration like The Final Draft hints that Alan Wake may be? Spoiler
So in the Final Draft it's strongly suggested that Alan Wake may be the product of some sort of collaboration between Tom Zane and Dr. Darling - Tom's body & Darling's voice.
So I'm wondering - is the same for FBI Agent Alex Casey? Sam Lake (Sami Jarvi) is an actor seen both in the Harvey Garrett Show in Alan Wake 1 (more as a cameo with a nod to Max Payne). But then in Alan Wake 2 he's shown as an actor in the Mr. Door show in the Darkplace. With Sam Lake using his own voice. And that he "plays" the role of Alex Casey the detective in the Darkplace Movies and becomes the face of his Echoes and the Alex Casey that's killed over and over again. But he also appears as a Finnish speaking actor playing Alex Casey in the Darkplace "film" Nightless Night.
But the real FBI Agent Alex Casey looks exactly like Sam Lake from the real life Harvey Garrett Show and from the Darkplace Mr. Door Show.
What's going on? Should we be thinking about Alex Casey the same way? Is he a "collaboration" of sorts between Sam Lake (the Darkplace actor) and....Zachariah Trench's voice? Trench seems unconnected to the Darkplace. Perhaps his voice is inspiration?
But, someone else also had James McCaffrey's voice in the RCU -- Tom the Diver from Alan Wake 1.
Mostly likely not a planned thing back in AW1 thst James voices Tom the Diver & Alex Casey's book narration - but neither was Alan Wake himself.
But now Sam Lake the writer is using this fact as a Meta detail in the Alan Wake world. So should the same be for Alex Casey?
Do you think there is a reason that Alex Casey & Tom the Poet share the same voice? Is the Alex Casey voice a voice of paternal authority for Alan? His Dad perhaps? Is this why it becomes the voice of his hard boiled protagonist AND his Darkplace incarnation of Tom Zane? Is it also an echo of Trench's voice leaking into Alan's imagination? Is Sami Jarvi a real being in the Dark Place that is connected to Tom Seine? An Elder God perhaps? A fictional echo of the actor topside? Did the actor fall into the Dark Place? Does FBI agent Alex Casey know of the Actor Sam Lake?

Question Does the Setter Charm show nursery rhyme locations? Spoiler
I've had to look at maps online to find a couple of them. Weirdly, those maps show an icon that looks like two kids next to each other. Like a "generic friendship" sign or something.
Also, do you get any sort of confirmation that you've pet all 12 deer or is it just something you have to manually check?

Accessing sound files (typewriter scene change sound, hotline sounds etc.) Spoiler
Wondering if there's anyway I can access files? I'd like to have typewriters sound in the game when we change the scenes during the missions and hotline ringing specifically in the game & at the control resonant too if possible?
Is there anyone can help with that?
