Note From r/VictoriaBC Mods | Election Season 2026 is Upon Us!
Hello everyone, happy double election season 2026!
With both municipal & provincial elections approaching in under a month, this sub will be (and already is) inundated with political content. Please review the following regarding political content in the sub during election season.
- Be civil & decent to each other, even when in disagreement. Political season is a great time to practice the virtue of disagreeing without being disagreeable. In other words, to respond to an argument rather than attacking someone's character. We will remove content and give out bans when appropriate to keep the discussion civil and constructive.
- Political posts should be linked to an official, legitimate news outlet or publication. Please avoid self-made political posts, social-media screenshots, rants/raves, etc. There is no lack of political news content, and we'd like to keep discussion based around legitimate coverage to help mitigate the spread of misinformation, and to minimize redundancy.
- Mind the municipal & provincial distinction re: relevancy to Victoria. We encourage folks to post provincial political content over at r/BritishColumbia and to focus on municipal issues here at r/VictoriaBC. As local & provincial politics do overlap, some provincial content may be appropriate this sub, but in general please keep political content focused on Victoria & region.
- Posts that break the 'No Editorialized Headlines' rule will be removed regardless of the content or engagement prior to removal. When posting an article, the post title should match the article's headline exactly. Any editorialization, whether intentional or not, will result in the removal of that post.
- Help us out by reporting rule-breaking content. If you think a post or comment breaks the rules, please report it so we can review the content. Keeping in mind the next rule...
- Please don't abuse the report function. Disagreement is not a reportable offence - please utilize the downvote button if you disagree with a post or comment. Misusing the report feature breaks Reddit-wide rules, and we report all users who abuse the report function which can lead to site-wide restrictions to one's Reddit account. Thank you for not misusing the report function, we appreciate it.
- Avoid low-effort posts & comments. We've heard it all before. Save those low-effort one liners for Thanksgiving dinner or Twitter. We'll remove low-effort content in our efforts to maintain civil discourse.
- No AI-generated content. Any post or comment suspected of being generated by AI will be removed.
The sub's safety & crowd-control features have also been turned up to help filter out content from bots, newer accounts, trolls, brigaders, etc. If you have content removed that you think shouldn't have been, please message the mods and we will review it when we can.
Thanks everyone!

RIP Jesse Adams
I’m just gutted by this horrendous news. Jesse was a true warrior for dogs and cats. Such a monumental loss for the animals, the Ukraine, and Victoria too. His heart was bigger than his fear and he walked the talk. May his legacy of love move others to help and may it live on. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

Help Me Find Plastic surgeon recommendations?
I recently had a growth excised from my face at urgent care - the doctor left a huge scar and wasn’t able to remove all the affected tissue. She has recommended I find a plastic surgeon to remove the remaining tissue and hopefully reduce the look of the existing scar.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I have to pay out of pocket and find the doctor myself and I’m feeling a little lost.

Does anyone know what’s happening at Uptown
There’s around a dozen cop cars surrounding a bus, maybe a 75 at the bus stop. And now an ambulance just went in that direction. They got everyone off the bus. I’ve never seen these many cop cars all at once

Best steak ?
So I am a very pregnant person right now, and I just found out I’m boarder anemic levels for iron.
i’ve also had a pretty horrendous last couple of months as well, so my spouse said ‘let’s go out for a special steak dinner!’
I’m a former vegetarian/vegan, I don’t actually know where the best steak would be in Victoria, one would think the keg because that’s just what they’re known for but I’m really curious to find a local place, as that is something that we’re both keen to support.
also doesn’t have to be downtown or in Victoria proper but any surrounding greater Victoria area.
thanks in advance for your suggestions and reviews 🙏😌

Victoria police investigate suspicious encounter involving youth
Victoria police are searching for a man accused of following a girl and making inappropriate comments during a suspicious encounter near Blanshard Street and Hillside Avenue.
With Halloween approaching, police are encouraging parents and caregivers to discuss personal safety with children before they head out trick-or-treating.
Police said the youth involved in the incident took appropriate steps to protect herself by leaving the situation and returning to safety.
VicPD recommends children travel with friends or trusted adults whenever possible, remain aware of their surroundings and identify safe places to seek help, including nearby businesses or trusted neighbours.

Question Trick or treating
We have recently moved to Victoria, James Bay Area, and have two small children. We are also new to Canada from the UK, I’m just wondering what the trick or treating etiquette? Do you only trick or treat places with decorations/pumpkins? Or certain streets?
Any help would be appreciated 🎃

This Small-Town LRT is so Good it Made me Angry
Connecting Kitchener-Waterloo with a total population of around 600k. Ion Rapid Transit is a 19km LRT built under $1billion in just 5 years. They were able to do this by saving money building on existing rail corridors, and removing traffic lanes instead of extending the roads, on top of a very rigid planning commission. This area has many similarities to Victoria/the Island in general. Not only is the population similar, but the Island has an existing rail corridor going all the way up to Nanaimo. Many people say that its too expensive, and that Victoria doesn't have the population to make it sustainable. However other parts of Canada are showing that it very much is possible.

Transit / Traffic Alert Anyone Know the Adelaide O Bahn? Good for the Island?
Does anyone know about the Adelaide O Bahn busway in Australia? I think something like this would be good for the Island. I don't think a similar project to SkyTrain would be feasible for the Island and all the stations required would kind of destroy the landscape and lushness of the Island. But if something like the Adelaide O Bahn busway was created where buses can go from street to track in certain areas, it could be quite impactful for the people of the Island and tourists. The buses could have their own busway and travel much faster than the vehicular traffic. Thoughts?

Question These are considered the most EXPENSIVE Retaurants In Victoria. So which have you eaten at?
There's a lot of restaurant closures in the past few years but there's still some expensive places that are still open that aren't just for rich fat cats but maybe not a routine place for regular people to eat at unless you want something fancy. According to reviewers, these are considered the most expensive in Victoria. Have you eaten any of these places?

C Sweets!!
Finally found European style hot chocolate.
We saw a recommendation for this wonderful place on Reddit and decided to give it a try. My Wife has been raving about hot chocolate that she had in Spain 20 years ago. They did everything they could to replicate it and they got it bang on. I had a more traditional hot chocolate and I will say as a 59-year-old that that is the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had.
Service and quality are amazing Second to none honestly, you have nothing to lose by trying this place. Also great to support a local business.
I am new to the area. I’ll do my best to describe location. It is in the quality foods on the second floor in the eagle creek plaza

Help Me Find Physiotherapist rec for chronic tendinitis
As the title suggests, I've been struggling with chronic tendonitis in both patellar tendons for 3 years now. I've had tendinitis in both elbows for longer than that, but no one's been able to successfully treat those so far so I'm hoping to find someone who can help me with my knees at minimum.
Thanks in advance!
