90 days is up
I'm doing nothing. It's been 90 days, nothing has changed on my account. No new emails, still in forbearance...let things fall where they may. Wishing all of us good luck...peace.

Mohela failed to autodraft my account on time and sent no notice. I made a manual payment a few days later.
They ended up retroactively processing the autodraft as timely. But also took a second payment for November. So not only am I paying more than ever (3x higher than my SAVE payments), they also double billed me in one week. Thankfully my account had enough to cover it without overdrafting. But most people would be screwed.
Then they sent me a notice saying my next payment was December and it says nothing is due. But autodraft looks like it might still take another payment later in November. And there’s not really an option on my end to tell it not to.
Department of Education / Mohela / Treasury, doesn’t have the staff it needs to implement repayment. They are making demands of borrowers but their systems and processes are not able to meet those demands. Borrowers are having to go through hell just to make a payment, determine the payment, and comply with PSLF requirements. Maybe they shouldn’t have fundamentally changed the entire system at the same time they are trying to ressurect the old one. Linda McMahon is not effective in her role. As predicted, repayment has become a nightmarish disaster.
Anyways, when I walk into my voting booth tommorrow and pull the lever, you can bet it will be straight Democrat across the board. Republicans are costing me an arm and a leg.

I finally heard back from the ombudsman office. 2 possible important things to note.
To appeal, you must mail a written letter explaining why you disagree with the outcome. Include any documents, evidence, or information that supports what you want them to consider. Your appeal must be sent by mail to the address below.
ATTN: MOHELA Ombudsman
MOHELA
PO Box 32 Chesterfield, MO 63005-1243
What is important to know is that as per USPS, this address does not exist. I found out when attempting to send them a certified letter. The zip code is incorrect.
Incase people do not know, an ombudsman is an independent official to mediate complaints.

Hello all, I am a physician fellow (PGY5) trying to put my student loans in forbearance, given that the SAVE plan is no longer an option.
So far, I've submitted the Medical Residency Internship Forbearance form 4 times, and it has been rejected 4 times over the past several months. Each rejection is for a minute detail (ie, HR rep at my hospital did not put a phone number in Section 4) or frankly incorrect, like saying the signature is missing.
I have been unable to reach anyone by phone at Mohela who can help clarify why the form keeps getting rejected for nonsense reasons.
Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm pulling at straws.

I got off SAVE and on IBR (old) last October. My payment was around $1250. I just got a couple Mohela emails that my next 12 payments will be around $850. When I was looking at getting off SAVE new IBR had my payment at around $850, but all my loans should be under old IBR. Anyone else had a payment drop of this magnitude? I have another year of payments and then buyback of 15 months of SAVE forbearance.

Hi all,
A couple of months back, I submitted to change my student loan plan from SAVE to PAYE. My loans are managed through MOHELA, and I received a message through MOHELA that I was to resume payments in September.
I have been waiting to receive a charge or get any sort of notification on payments, and have some concerns as I am for some reason not able to enroll in autopay or find any way to initiate my payments.
My concern is that I am still in forbearance and this is why I cannot make payments, but I'm having difficulty in finding out how to get out of forbearance. Has anyone else run into this issue, and what did you do?
Thank you very much!

Got my 90 day and then 30 day notice that I’m getting kicked off SAVE forbearance. I don’t want to get on a new plan as I am waiting for my buyback request to be processed. Where do they get our current income info from if we don’t provide it ? Will the payment amount be based on the last income info we provided?

Hello, I had been unemployed for the past 6 months and I was approved for deferment until March 2027. I just received an offer that will start in November 2026 and it has a three months probation and its at will contract. My question is do I need to notify MOHELA now or do I wait until the deferment ends in March 2027 since there is a probation period?

Has anyone dealt with this before?
I signed up for auto-pay in July.
Received an approval letter August 4th, it said that if the statement said “next auto pay” then a manual payment wasn’t required. The auto pay was schedule for 9/01 so now I missed the month of August for PSLF count.
Is that month eligible for buyback? Is there a way to make a retroactive payment?

I’m so annoyed. I finally got put on forbearance while I wait for the fed to process my final two PSLF payments. Some of my loans only had a few months available while the rest qualified for a whole year. The ones that had a few months available were supposed to be on forbearance until 12/16/26… I just got a notice that the next payment on those loans is now due on 11/16! WTF!

I have been on the PAYE plan on autopay for over a decade and received a May 2026 email stating my IDR plan was being auto-recertified. All on track.
I am on PSLF and two years from forgiveness, and my current monthly amount is (was) $0 since COVID, for reference.
I have received NO correspondence since May 2026 (email, physical mail) from Mohela except my normal monthly emails stating my monthly autopay amount would be deducted the following month on the 15th. The last autopay was deducted September 15th. No September autopay email, no update to recertification, and no correspondence since then. Well, this morning I received a notice stating I missed a student loan payment of ~$5000 on October 15th. It’s 07:30 on a Sunday and my day is ruined.
This was despite zero correspondence from Mohela (mail or electronic) indicating an updated IDR monthly payment amount, AND being on autopay. On my account, I can confirm there is zero correspondence between August and today, and, the November 15 auto payment amount is still showing $0.
Obviously I need to call them, but I don’t know what to say or do. I am very aware of my payment responsibilities and call Mohela several times a year for situational awareness and to plan for recertification. I was awaiting a new IDR monthly amount this fall. I have never (until now) seen ZERO correspondence about upcoming payments. Why is the most important month of correspondence (the one with my updated IDR monthly amount AND the fact it is due) totally missing? And why did autopay not work THIS month of all months?
This feels like an error but I have no idea how to resolve it. I understand they can recertify my plan however the hell they want, but are they not obligated to actually inform me (mail/email/carrier pigeon) in SOME capacity beforehand?
I feel completely moronic for actually believing that a loan servicer is obligated to TELL me what my updated monthly payment amount actually is In writing. I guess I should have been checking my MOHELA online portal daily to dig for this information under Billing and Payments, because a letter or email about something that important is far too unreasonable to expect. /s
I am furious and nervous about how a “missed” payment looks, and how to proceed. I would appreciate any feedback, thank you.
Edit: Studentaid.gov shows only a $0 Oct. 15 payment due, and has no information about the new IDR amount overdue on the Mohela site.
Edit 2: The more I think about it, the more it seems that the IDR was never totally processed, so it seems like the auto certification was started, not completed, and then the standard repayment plan kicked in. None of this explains why not a single new payment amount or payment due notice was issued to me, however.

So, I manually submitted IDR recertification earlier than my anniversary date (January 2027), got a message from MOHELA that it has been approved. This letter didn't include my new monthly payment amount, but it said my new payment would start once current 12-month period ends. So I assume they'll send me something before January 2027 detailing actual new payment plan, and I would NOT have to recertify again come January 2027.
10/23 was when my forbearance was supposed to end while processing IDR recertification application, but I still see my next month payment on 11/23 is $0. And under details of my loan, it says "Awaiting Documentation, Administrative Forbearance - Ends 10/23/2026".
So why is my November payment $0? My Administrative Forbearance should have ended 10/23 as my IDR recertification application has been approved/processed. I assumed my monthly payment would resume at my current amount for November, and will eventually update in January? Have they just not updated the next billing cycle yet? If they still have me in administrative forbearance for November, will this month count towards PSLF?
