I really like the album for its vocals and sound, including melodic riffs and beautiful solos! I really want to listen to something similar.

I'm not the biggest fan of straightforward death or black metal, after listening to various forms of both for the last 20+ years. But I do quite like stuff that's on the more melodic, progressive, or technical side. Melodic death metal is a well-known subgenre. But I was listening to the album Eternity Whispers by Oubliette today and realized that I don't know of many black metal bands that scratch a similar itch to the likes of Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates.
What are some bands oriented more toward black metal but with more emphasis on melodic and harmonic progression than just evil riffs and atmosphere? Or maybe melodic death/black hybrids? Preferably with cleaner production rather than raw, 90s sounding stuff. Also, I'm well aware (and a fan!) of the likes of Alcest and Deafheaven and blackgaze is very specifically not what I'm looking for here.

I’m a huge melodeath fan, it’s my main subgenre alongside metalcore and power metal. A few of my favourite bands are Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Æther Realm, Insomnium, Amorphis, Darkest Hour, Arch Enemy, Bloodred Houglass, and Mors Principium Est.
But there’s one band people seem to praise that I just can’t get into. That band is TBDM. I’ve tried getting into them multiple times but to no avail. To me a lot of their songs blend together and I always just found them boring to listen to. I get the appeal behind them, but for whatever reason there’s something preventing me from enjoying them.
If you have any songs or albums you think I’d enjoy based on the bands I like, please recommend them to me and I’ll listen to them.

What are the catchiest Melodeath songs, pure earworms with great melodies, riffs and hooks?
r/melodicdeathmetal • u/Putrid-Excuse-1564 • 7d ago
Stuff like insomnium, dark tranquility and Omnium gatherum are good with some fast paced songs but most of it are long and slow, like doom metal.
I want songs and albums that are fast paced, catchy as hell, blast beats, energetic and soaring melodies.
I'm cool with both harsh and clean vocals mix or just harsh vocals in general, or just clean vocals too.
Stuff like: inflames, disarmonia mundi, orbit Culture, soilwork, nightrage, ablaze my sorrow, whispered, black dahlia murder, children of Bodom, chthonic, the unguided, aether realm, intestine baalism, dissections last album (honorable mentions: all that remains and crimson shadows and powerwolf)

I’m going to Germany at the beginning of next month and I wanted to know if there were any good or underrated German MDM bands I should listen to while there!
I am aware of Heaven Shall Burn and so far I’m loving them, but I’m not really familiar with any other major (or really any in general) German MDM band and I’m pretty much looking for recs from any MDM style; (thrash, traditional, metalcore-y, progressive, etc.) I can’t wait to listen to more of their stuff when I’m there!
Here’s a list of my favorite MDM bands and what I primarily usually like (in order):
1. In Flames (1994-2002 / 2006-2010)
2. Arch Enemy
3. UNDEAD CORPORATION DOUJIN WORKS
4. Children of Bodom
5. Edge of Sanity
6. Carcass
7. Imperial Circus Dead Decadence
8. At The Gates / Dark Tranquility (tied for me)
Anything is greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Hey!! I'm a huge fan of black metal, but I've been looking to listen to more melodic death metal as well after gaining a keen interest in Amon Amarth and a handful of other melodeath bands. I already listen to melodic black/death metal bands a lot, like Dissection, Sacramentum, Unanimated, Dawn and Thulcandra, but I'm looking to venture even further into melodic death metal as well.
I'm very interested in albums that mimic the dynamic of the debut album of In Flames or Opeth. Essentially melodic death metal but with (some of) the vocals from black metal. If there's any other bands or albums that mimic this kind of dynamic, I would love to hear them!! Thanks in advance!!
EDIT: Thank you all so so much for the recommendations!! I am listening to all of them one by one!! If I won't reply to future replies, don't worry, I have seen them, but that'll be during the time that I'm listening. Thank you all once again!! The black metal world salutes melodeath <3 \m/

Wondering what lesser known melodeth bands yall know of?
Idea came to me as on my last post I mentioned a band amoungst my current listens, and i realised one of them has less that 1000 plays on Spotify (i am genuinley really enjoying them tbf https://open.spotify.com/artist/4JR3AOe6VAOMXcw8ZgLX0n?si=GxR8Y7GiTmakJr-Xa4DJLQ&utm_source=copy-link ),
so I thought id see if theres any other gold out there from lesser known artists?

Edit: I've got enough recs now, so please do not comment anymore, thank you.
Idk why but so many melodic death albums' songs either have very short melody moments that are only repeated once, or the melody is very hard to hear between the vocals and drums
Also I'm going through a phase of mental illness so I need something that's catchy to keep my head light.
I want something like having harsh vocals but combined with catchy guitar riffs and heavy drumming
Also I already got Kalmah, the Unguided, dark trabquillity, halo effect, black dahlia, majesties, crimson shadows and soilwork so don't recommend me that, thank you (I don't like at the gates of scar symmetry)
Stuff like this:
The jester race (title track) by in flames
Desolation and Dismay by Nightrage
Only for the weak by in flames
Swim by in flames
Towards the twilight (title track) by Night in Gales
At the grave of giants by Ablaze my Sorrow

Gyroscope by In Flames
Pinball map by In Flames
Jotun by In Flames
Artifacts of the black rain by In Flames
December flower by In flames
Not my funeral by children of Bodom
Follow the reaper by children of Bodom
Hate me by children of Bodom
Needled 24/7 by children of Bodom
Silent night, Bodom night by Children of Bodom
Taste of my scythe by Children of Bodom
Touch like angel of death by Children of Bodom

This is going to be a very odd ask, but im seeking recommendations (if they exist) for death metal that's kind to toddler ears. For example, magic spider by nekrogoblikon. Anything you would think wouldn't be too harsh but still be death metal?

Hello, excuse me, could you recommend any bands, whether melodic death metal, melodic metalcore, or Bolt Thrower-inspired death metal, with a strong ANTI-FASCIST lyrical content?
I love Heaven Shall Burn and would like more bands with this lyrical content. I know Napalm Death, Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Kreator, Nuxlear Assault, and Tankard are anti-fascist, but I'd like something more melodic like HSB, Bolt Thrower, and Kreator (formerly Coma of Souls).
And if you're so kind, besides mentioning a band, could you recommend the album you think is the best in your discography?

Hello everyone!
Would like to ask a recommendations of specific sound bands that I am hopefully missing.
Looking for bands that sound like:
Insomnium - Above The Weeping World
Insomnium - Across The Dark
Insomnium - One For Sorrow
Insomnium - Shadows of the Dying Sun
Insomnium - Winter's Gate
Insomnium - Ephemeral EP
Insomnium - Argent Moon EP
Insomnium - Songs of the Dusk EP
Wolfheart - Winterborn
Wolfheart - Shadow World
Wolfheart - Tyhjyys
Before The Dawn - Rise of the Phoenix
Black Sun Aeon - Routa
Black Sun Aeon - Blacklight Deliverence
Black Sun Aeon - Darkness Walks Beside Me
That melancholic / wintery sound. I'm clearly an Insomnium/Tuomas Saukkonen fan.
What I already tried and it does not sound like what I'm looking for:
- Omnium Gatherum
- Belakor
- Swallow the Sun
- Amorphis
- In Mourning
Anything I'm missing?
