Control Center I created a page in control center to use as an “audio launcher” and it has made listening to content on my phone even better than ever

I use my phone daily to listen to music and podcasts so I decided to dedicate one of the pages in my control center to the things I listen to every day to make it easier to access and do what I normally do.

Top part is just the standard now playing media control

Next line are 2 playlists set to shuffle them when pressed, I make a new one every season of what I’m in to at the moment, the second one I rotate between a bunch of “vibes” playlists I’ve made over the years depending on how I’ve been feeling.

The 3 artists controls (phish, goose, Pearl Jam) are my 3 favorite live bands, I’ve got hundreds of each of their live shows in my iTunes library that I’ve picked up over the years. I usually put one or two on during the work day to listen while I work. I used to just open music and pick a show at random every day, but here I made shortcuts to do it for me. So when I tap one of them it will pick a random show by the artist and play it start to finish in order.

LivePhish and nugs are live music streaming apps, these are just shortcuts to the apps, they don’t allow for further integration that I could figure out at least.

The spectrum and lithium are shortcuts to stations on SiriusXM radio (app for commercial free subscription satellite radio in the us and Canada), tapping either of them will start playing the station directly from the button. It still launches the app, but the usual behavior on launch is not to play anything and then you have to find the channel you want and hit play. These just start playing immediately on tap and are my go to stations so they’re a perfect starting point for me.

The last 3 are shortcuts in Downcast (podcast player) Continue pod will continue playing the last podcast I was listening to from where I left off

I listen to two podcasts regularly a daily pod for my favorite football team and a weekly pod for the lonely island and Seth Myers podcast. Tapping those buttons plays the oldest episode in their respective queues.

The second image is my main control center screen, this is still audio focused with the now playing control in the middle for easy access while listening and Shazam for music ID and a larger Bluetooth control for more info on what I’m connected to and access to switching.

My other big use for my phone is pictures and video, so I have two prominent controls for the stock camera as well as Adobe’s Project Indigo.

For years I’d been treating control center as an afterthought and basically just an extension of settings to access airplane mode faster, but now it is a part of my daily routine and I’m launching a large part of what I do on my phone from it.

Not wildly different from the default, but wireless controls are all one press or hold, instead of two. AirDrop even got space at the bottom. I’ve kept it all to one page, so I can simply swipe up from anywhere to close CC.

Come on, Apple!

Which programmer thought that giving the icons of the control center a life of their own would be a good idea?

Control Center Former Android User’s Control Center Setup

I put the controls I use the most on the right since I’m right-handed, which makes everything easier to reach. Coming from Android, one thing I really missed was being able to access settings directly from the Control Center. This setup works much better for me.
