Crime We broke the news about Adam Radogna on Oct 22nd and got a lot of pushback, but here we are, vindicated.

We broke this story on Oct. 22 and got plenty of pushback. Yet here we are!

The morning he was booked, we posted his docket showing 9 child exploitation counts plus possessing criminal tools. Later that day, those 9 items disappeared from the docket, and people started questioning whether there was anything to it. Now there's no question.

Today a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Adam Radogna, 37, owner of Adamo's Italian Restaurant in Brook Park, on those same 10 counts: 9 tied to child sexual abuse material, plus possessing criminal tools. According to the Prosecutor's Office, a joint federal and state investigation into a file-sharing network led the Ohio ICAC Task Force to his home on Oct. 22, where they found multiple files on his devices. The investigation is ongoing.

Radogna isn't some random guy in a photo line. The AP profiled him last month hosting the Parma Republicans' election watch party at his restaurant, where he said he's been to more than 80 Trump rallies. He's shown in the pic with MAGA Congressman Max Miller in front of a candidate Vivek Ramaswamy sign.

He’s also a Front Row Joe and Jan 6er.

He's presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. But this isn't a rumor anymore. It's a grand jury indictment.

Thank you to the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office for doing the work.

Politics Supreme Court Candidates Ranked "Not Recommended" by Cleveland-area Legal Associations. Woof.

I found this website (Judge4Yourself.com) as I was doing some research yesterday about the Ohio Supreme Court candidates. I had no idea this existed and I LOVEEE it.

The ratings process:

This Judicial Candidates Rating Coalition (a group of Cleveland-area bar and legal associations) provides ratings of judicial candiates. Lawyers and others from these organizations volunteer to formulate the ratings. Candidates complete questionnaires and interview with volunteers.

From the site's About Us page: "Some Coalition participants are self-employed or work in small firms. Others work for large firms, local companies or government. Our community representatives have worked with people or businesses that are affected by court decisions." Their criteria: integrity, temperament & demeanor, diligence, and professional competence for the position sought. Each candidate is rated on each of these four criteria separately by each org based on questionnaire and interview answers.

Read more about their independent rating process and criteria here. Everything seems above-board and about as close to nonpartisan as you can get.

The Ratings (tea):

  • Daniel Hawkins and Colleen O'Donnell both scored TERRIBLY. Each was rated "not recommended" by one of the three participating organizations, the lowest possible rating.
  • Hawkins wasn't rated higher than "satisfactory" (the second-lowest possible rating) by any organization.
  • O'Connell was rated "good" by one org. However, I also learned today that she was found to have violated judicial ethics rules in connection with her campaign by sharing an endorsement on her Facebook page that implied she was a sitting judge at the time of the endorsement. In reality, she left the bench in 2023 and returned to private practice. She did not receive punishment for the violation despite this finding.
  • Marilyn Zayas is rated "excellent" (the highest possible rating) by two of three orgs and "good" by the third.
  • Jennifer Brunner, the incumbent for her seat, received "excellent" ratings from all three rating organizations.
  • You can view ratings for candidates in other Cleveland-area judicial races here.

TLDR:

I am actually shocked by this disparity. It's worth mentioning that O'Donnell and Hawkins are currently on a bus tour campaigning with Vivek Ramaswamy. Insert joke about "bad judgment."

Ohio deserves better than "not recommended." State judges and justices are far more influential than many people know, particularly at the Supreme Court level. They are the final authority on Ohio law. We deserve professionals like Brunner and Zayas who come with high recommendation from the legal community.

Congratulations: you're informed! Now that you've done your homework, you can exercise your right to vote for Ohio's next Supreme Court justices. We deserve EXCELLENT.

Events Come vote! Right now, 8:15 on Wednesday morning, the line is not very long!

Every vote counts, especially this year. Please come out!

I just got here and the parking lot was full enough to make me anxious, but the line inside isn't bad.

Edit to add: the lovely BOE employee who checked my ID said that it seems like they're having record turnout this year, even more than in presidential elections. So, 🤞🤞 that this time next week, the Goblin King is effectively a lame duck for the rest of his term. And that Dems, for once, have the courage of their convictions.

What a well oiled machine! Got there at 715 this morning and there was already a decent line of people waiting inside. As we waited a steady stream of people kept coming in. Once the doors opened at 730 it was smooth sailing. I was voted and back to my car by 750.

Plenty of free parking. People waiting were relaxed and happy. Workers were hustling but very pleasant. Just an all around great experience.

Discussion the gunshots are ridiculous

yeah i know, Cleveland is full of them, i grew up here and im used to it. i live near the Cleveland metropark zoo and on Saturday gunshots were heard from somewhere near the area, my step dad was outside and thankfully he wasnt hurt, but a bullet ended up going through our outside roof (its where our cars are underneath) and it hit his car. he has to get it repaired now and i know it wont be cheap. i know im basically shouting into the void with this but people who randomly shoot guns in the air at night are stupid, because someone is gonna get hurt! my step dad almost got hurt but thank goodness he didn't but its still so scary how the bullet was so close.

I requested an appointment with maxillofacial surgeon because I have a case of sleep apnea where a surgery might help and they won't even see me without an appointment with financial counselor first? Is it a new norm at CC or just this specific speciality?

Discussion Thank you, Cleveland. I will always thank this city.

I'm just proud to be here. I had never felt what it was like to have pride in where I live until I moved here. People still tell me I'm crazy all the time when they ask me what brought me here & my response is that I just like it. I just like Cleveland.

And being here has changed me in the ways I'd hoped it would. I think I'm starting to understand the grit of the city. There were times I was so lonely and scared. Being a stranger has been nice because it allowed me to rewrite my own narrative. People only know me for what I share with them, not my past. But for a solid year or so, I felt SO ALONE. 7 hours away from anyone who could help me if I end up stranded or just in a scary situation. I even admitted myself to the psych ward last year when I reached a breaking point. I actually posted here asking for direction during that time. People were kind and helpful, such has been my experience with most things in Cleveland. Kind and helpful Clevelanders, who have overcome their own shit just like I was able to eventually. This city is full of people who shine through the adversity they've overcome. It's inspiring

I had never experienced a real winter, either. Not until I moved up here. I tell myself that the winters are the price I pay for living in a cool place. But dude when I was without a car my first winter here, oooo. I learned real quick how to bundle up. And when I did get transportation back, I learned real quick how to drive in the snow. Lol. You all were also helpful with my winter questions when I posted them a year or two ago as well.

Anyways, I overcame a lot since I moved here simply because I love Cleveland and refuse to leave. It'd have been so easy to pack it up & go back to what I knew. But I wanted to stay in a place that keeps pushing me to grow. A place where I've slowly transitioned from a stranger to a neighbor, a friend, a familiar face, a part of this community.

Coming from a dark red area to a blue city has also been really cool. I can always count on Cleveland to stand up for what's right. I thought it was really neat that Cle showed out for Obama. I also really like how people will post up with signs over the freeway bridges in any weather to make a statement. People in this city will protest. It's nice not being an outlier with my beliefs. I just feel more aligned in a place like this. So yea, I wanted to shout into the void to thank this city for the way it has changed me and my life. And thanks to everyone on this sub that's ever been friendly or helpful. It really meant a lot as I really needed that when I received it.

I hope one day I can contribute to this place the way it has contributed to my personal growth.

Help a Tourist First Day Hike Recommendations?

Our family tradition is to go to a different First Day Hike (an organized Jan 1st hike hosted by state parks throughout the country). We will be finding ourselves in Cleveland over the Christmas/New Year’s vacation this year and want to continue our tradition. Any recommendations for First Day Hikes in the area? We already plan on doing some exploring of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We’re nature people and we’re pretty comfortable with cold and lake effect snow.

Throwback Cleveland’s Gambling Wars: Angelo Lonardo and the Mayfield Road Mob (Part One)

NEW SERIES:

CLEVELAND'S GAMBLING WARS: Angelo Lonardo and the Mayfield Road Mob

In 1927, Cleveland's first Mafia boss, “Big Joe” Lonardo, was murdered during the city's bloody Prohibition wars. Two years later, his teenage son Angelo sought revenge, killing the man believed responsible. Convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison alongside his cousin, Angelo eventually walked free after a second trial.

But his criminal career was just beginning.

As Prohibition came to an end, Angelo “Big Ange” Lonardo joined forces with the Mayfield Road Mob, turning his attention to Cleveland's lucrative numbers racket, a multimillion-dollar gambling enterprise built largely by black entrepreneurs.

What followed was a struggle for control involving extortion, intimidation, and deadly violence.

In Part One of my new standalone series, Cleveland's Gambling Wars: Angelo Lonardo and the Mayfield Road Mob, I explore the Lonardo family’s bloody history, the Mafia’s entry into Cleveland's gambling business, and a violent conflict that would claim innocent lives.

Individuals mentioned in this article include Angelo "Big Ange" Lonardo, Joseph “Big Joe” Lonardo, Salvatore “Black Sam” Todaro, Dominic Sospirato, Angelo “Little Ange” Sciria, Frank Milano, Al Polizzi, the Angersola brothers, John DeMarco, Dominic DeMarco, Victor Mannino, Milton Rockman, Rufus “The Emperor” Jones, John “Hot Stuff” Johnson, Willie Richardson, Benny Mason, Frank Hoge, Willie Hoge, Detective Sergeant Audley Bramer, Paul Goins, Prudence Thompson, Cleveland Press reporter Clayton Fritchey, and historian Frank Kuznik.

Lost/Found Please help! My dog has been lost in Shaker for 4 days!

Brock (aka Broccoli) is a 10 year old, appx 10 lb. male Chihuahua mix. Mostly black, grey muzzle and tan and white chest and belly. He's super skittish and will run if you try to approach him. Missing in the Chagrin Blvd area, the area heading toward the Van Aken district.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EdUX5Jzxf/

https://pet911.org/shaker-heights/lost/dog/usl552911

On Friday 10/23, my husband and I moved from VA to our dream home in Shaker. That evening, one of my beloved pups escaped through a gap we missed in the fence. He's a rescue that we've had for years and he's still super skittish in new situations. He bolted when he got loose, then some well-meaning good Samaritans tried to help grab him, but that just made him run faster and further.

I'm at my wits end. We've walked the area for hours each day, signs are up (and about to run another batch out) and all local police, shelters and animal control have been notified. He's on local Facebook groups and Next Door.

The last time we saw him, he'd crossed Chagrin at Lynnfield. Saturday morning, walking around, several people spotted him around Lomond. No one has spotted him since. We did get a call this morning from someone who thought they saw him on Lomond headed toward Lee, but walking around for several hours and no one confirmed seeing him. The guy did say he thought it was a cat at first, so may not have been him.

I have no idea how far he's gone now and the longer this goes on, the more I'm struggling to remain hopeful. Aside from the hope this morning, no one has seen him since Saturday morning.

If any of you are near Shaker/Warrensville, please be on the lookout! My cintact infirmation is in the postings and I will drop everything to head out immediately for any sightings. Thank you!!
