Kampot Is Kampot safe for a solo east asian traveller in 2026?

I'm planning a 5-day solo trip to Kampot later this year, mainly to rent a scooter and explore the countryside.

I've travelled solo multiple times before, so I'm comfortable navigating unfamiliar places. My only real concern is the kidnapping and human-trafficking situation in Cambodia, particularly around Kampot Province and Bokor Mountain.

As an East Asian traveller, how realistic is the kidnapping risk for ordinary tourists? Has anyone visited recently and can share their experience?

Thanks!

Kampot Motorcycle Ride from Phnom Penh to Kampot

Hello! I’m looking for something to do in Water Festival. I’m thinking of renting a motorcycle from PP then drive it to Kampot.

I’m also from SE asia, i drive both motorcycle and car back home so I think im pretty much confident.

Do you think this is a bad idea? Has anyone tried doing it before? If anyone is with a group and is planning to do a group drive, interested to join as well.

Kampot Just discovered this incredible hidden gem temple in Kampot province - 84,000 Buddha statues and we were literally the only tourists there

Hey Everyone! On our most recent trip to Cambodia, we did a mind-blowing day trip to a temple called Buddha Kiri (locals also call it the Pagoda of 84,000 Buddhas). I’m still processing how a place this stunning has zero tourists. Here’s the scoop:

  • 84,000 handcrafted Buddha statues embedded into a mountainside, each representing a different teaching. Construction started in 2017 by monks. The statues represent the 84k teachings of Buddha.
  • 199-step climb with insane views of cashew farms and the Cardamom Mountains.
  • A 20-year-old monk gave us a personal blessing and admitted they’re struggling to get visitors.

The craziest part? We were the only people there. The monk kept saying, “Please tell others about us,” which hit hard. I’ve never seen a temple so serene yet so... overlooked.

Question for you all: Has anyone else been here? Am I missing something? It’s 95km from PP, roads are smooth, and the monks are SO welcoming. Why isn’t this on the radar?

I documented the whole thing because the vibe was unreal – the fish pond, the flower offerings, even the shoeless climb. There’s a moment where we talk to the monk about being so young and "handsome” that I’ll never forget. If anyone wants to see more, just ask!

Seriously though – how are places like this still hidden?

This young monk was offering morning prayers for donations so we asked him for one. He was nice enough to take a photo and let us video the prayer.

Kampot What's Bokor Citys status today?

I visited Bokor Mountain in 2022 and saw they were building houses up there. Since I love the climate on the mountain I researched it and it's the Sokimex group building a big city on Bokor.

I was wondering how things went since I was there. And what do you think of the development by Sokimex? Maybe we can get some recent fotos of the Bokor city. 🤩

Some stills from the production of KHMER OCEAN GUARDIANS, a documentary we're making along Cambodia's coast with Khmer Ocean Life and Human of This Planet.

In the villages along Cambodia’s coast, the sea’s oldest witnesses are becoming its newest protectors. Following Khmer Ocean Life’s community-grounded work along Cambodia’s coast, the film follows a fisherman who can no longer fish, a mother who learned to read in the past few years, and the network they belong to who are teaching what community-led conservation looks like in practice.

Produced by Cheryl Ng, Khmer Ocean Life

Co-directed by Cheryl Ng, Sidney Ken

Camera: Sony FX6 & Sony A7iv

Lenses: Tokina Trio, Olympus Zuiko 50mm 1.4, TTartisans 75mm 1.5

Still very much in the middle of post-production, but wanted to share a few frames from the journey!

Kampot Kampot visit - recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I’m going to Kampot in September for 5 nights and I’m looking to get some recommendations. I’ve heard it’s a fairly chill, laidback town - are there any things in particular to see or do? Also any recommendations for nice bars, restaurants, cafes etc. would be welcome too. Thanks!

Kampot Kempot and surroundings 3/4 days by motorbike first days of June

Hello,

I would like to explore Kempot and surroundings by motorbike, first days of June.

I have never been to Cambodia before. I live in Bangkok. I think flying to PP and bus to Kampot is my option, right?

I understand that it could rain daily but as far as I researched, rains lasts 30 minutes or so.

Can you please share beautiful places and routes to enjoy with the motorbike? I want to ride no more than 60/80 km daily.

Thank you 👍🏻

Kampot General Questions!

Hello!!!

Me and the Hubbs just moved here in july and we can honestly say we love it here!!! From the culture down to the tokay barking lizards!!!

I am still getting some footing here in Kampot and have 3 general questions that would be loads appericated if answered!!!

  1. Where to get dog food? We've been using the Lucky's Express brand but my dog doesn't seem to like it and sometimes chooses to not eat it, plus it's not always there in store when we need it!

  2. I joined some job boards on Facebook and alot seem to just be the title, very short description, and a whatsapp or telegram number. Is this way it's done here? I just want to make sure I'm doing job hunting the right way here!

  3. How does general mailing work? Before I moved I used to be part of groups that did ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) think of it like pokemon cards but its art from all over the world. However the ATC world moves by mailing them, is that even really a possibility here? I keep seeing $15-$20 for envelope mail.

Thanks in advance!! I'm sure i'll have more questions as i keep going!!!

Kampot What happened to kampot

I used to live in kampot 2016-2018 and iv visited many times (that town traps you)

My point is the last few years i got chance to get down here. Its so different. The occupations were burnout hippie stoners ,especially up the river. Now its all old white and feels like spain, even got the girly bars now

Is the hippie congintant still present or are all those hang out spots gone now?

Kampot House/apartment rental in Kampot

Hello. Has anybody recently rented a place in Kampot? I am looking for a place, be it house or apartment, for a month or two. In Siem Reap and Phnom Penh I could easily find housing without deposit, contract and all that on fb marketplace or just scouting around districts. In Kampot, however, I am struggling to find enough options, they are mostly far from the center, require contracts etc. I just dont understand, is Kampot so popular among foreigners that they are willing to go with contracts and pay deposits? And if anybody can suggest some rental unit without such conditions, I will be grateful. Thanks!

Kampot What's the wildest thing you've seen while driving in Cambodia?

Today I saw an austringer carrying what appeared to be a hawk in Kampot. Just driving down the road with it on his glove, NBD. We had a short chat on the side of the road. Absolutely beautiful bird, apparently sourced from (though not necessarily native to) Vietnam. This is now first on my shortlist for wildest things I've seen on the road in the Kingdom of Wonder.

What to do when an ATM gives you a torn(from the middle, both sides) 100-dollar bill? No shop/restaurant accepting it, and the money exchange is offering 95X.

Kampot View on the Land selling in Cambodia

After reading some posting here, I have found that the negative view on land selling in Cambodia was very huge. I just looking for customer who need the land in Kampot province with 15 Hact, but after founding the view on land selling in Cambodia, I think it worst.

In my perspective, I think that before you want to buy a land in Cambodia, if you are worried about the future issue, you must looking for agent that know the land title and make sure you have a lawyer to handle your buying process. Scam were happen in every country, to preventing from any lost, we shall protected by looking for the way that can be safe.
