Police have shot and killed a woman during an incident at Firle in Adelaide's eastern suburbs.

The incident happened about 2am this morning when police were called to Gwynne Street.

Police said they were responding to reports "that a woman was armed with an axe" and that when they arrived they were confronted by the woman, who allegedly threatened them.

Police said a taser was used but it was ineffective, and that they then "discharged a firearm, striking the woman".

Officers attempted first aid before ambulance paramedics arrived, police said, but the woman died at the scene.

"Major Crime Investigation Branch detectives, Forensic Response Section officers and investigators from Internal Investigation Section are at the scene and will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident," police said.

Gwynne Street is closed and police said further information would be provided later this morning.

Question First time on a bus with this configuration, is it super rare?

Seems standard configuration until the back with the wheel arch seeming much higher but this also could be due the steps starting where the 3rd shows steps. Instead of a full length back seat, it is only half with this black box that goes floor to ceiling. The black box sounds like the engine or a big generator and the metal on the hatches attached to it are hot to the touch. The two rows prior to the rear face in on themselves.

The bus is number 1801.

News Bluey held at knifepoint among images in One Nation colouring book given away at show

In short:

A One Nation colouring book handed out to children at the Mount Gambier show appears to depict characters being robbed and unflattering caricatures of various politicians.

The party has defended the colouring book, based on the Please Explain web series, as political satire.

What's next?

A local mother whose children were handed the books says the item should not be marketed to children

One nation is really playing the indoctrinating the youth card, which they complain everyone else does. I'm surprised this isn't illegal, as there should be laws preventing children from being exposed to this hateful garbage.

In short:

The construction of a new hospital, originally budgeted at $3.2 billion, is facing predictions of a cost blowout.

SA government ministers say the budget allocated to the project is under pressure.

What's next?

Lendlease is expected to provide a final price by the end of the year.

So what's the likelihood another South Australian hospital will be featured on the list of the most expensive buildings ever built?

Question Potential casual/contract work

Hi locals, I live in Sydney and operate a scientific consulting business. This could be a long shot but let’s see.
Is there anyone in here that lives in or close to Mount gambier and has experience or has an interest in water quality sampling work ?

I am looking for someone local to the area to potentially be part of an upcoming project which would involve 1-2 days work per month collecting water samplers and water quality data. The project would be ongoing for 3 years.
Happy to chat in a lot more detail to anyone remotely interested.

Cheers!

Assistance Orthopaedic surgeon or hip preservation specialists?

I've just had news yesterday I have an anterior labral tear in my hip and need arthroscopic surgery. I saw an Orthopaedic specialist at Stepney who I'm not certain about.

I need recommendations as I don't want to risk this surgery going wrong I'm only in my early 30s and already dealing with multiple complex mental and physical conditions. Really struggling with coming to terms as I did not expect this.

Unfortunately don't have hospital cover on DSP it's difficult to afford it but might have to bite the bullet - I don't think I can risk waiting over 3 years on the public waitlist, since this is a procedure that has higher success rate the less damage there is. I am really open to suggestions here and any red flags..

News Lawyer suggests 'excessive self-defence' in fatal stabbing

Thumbnail

In short:

The lawyer for a teenager accused of murdering her father has told a court his client's victim had told her to stab him on multiple occasions before the fatal stabbing.

The now-19-year-old stood trial this month after pleading not guilty to the stabbing murder of her father on Boxing Day four years ago.

What's next?

A verdict will be handed down at a later date.

Full article as it's short: A teenager has admitted to killing her father on Boxing Day four years ago but has denied it was an act of murder.

The now-19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, today pleaded not guilty to murder in South Australia's Supreme Court, but guilty to manslaughter over the December 26, 2022, incident.

Prosecutor Karen Ingleton said the plea to the lesser charge was not accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In a summary to the court, Ms Ingleton said it would be alleged at trial later this week that the teenage girl had been drinking in the hours before the stabbing at a gathering and was "significantly intoxicated".

She said it will be alleged that the girl's father carried her out of the event and took her home, along with "a witness" where she slept "for a period of time".

"When she woke, the youth was angry and swearing. The source of her anger, or the reason for her anger, was not entirely clear," Ms Ingleton said.

She said that the girl then allegedly "launched at her father across the lounge room" with a knife from the kitchen.

Ms Ingleton said it would be alleged the knife was taken off the teenager, and triple-0 was called, but that she sourced another knife from the sink.

"[The witness] observed the youth to pick up a knife from the sink and plunge it straight into [her father's] chest," she said.

The court heard police arrived a short time later and the 16-year-old was arrested.

The trial, by judge alone, is expected to start later this week.

Question I noticed parkland trees now have slogans painted on them and signs nailed in. The ribbons were a sensible idea but have just been left there and are looking now like rubbish. Surely this is taking the piss?

Question Is it legal to operate a dessert business out of a house?

Creperie and co prospect burnt down several years ago in 2022, but there is a private house operating as them on Uber.

It's difficult to tell if it's the actual business, with food certs for that address, or an impersonator.

Adelaidians, do we care if someone has all the required certs for their food carts if it's operated out of a suburb other then where it's advertised to be, and sold out of a house?

Or is complaining/worrying about this getting on your high horse, and hitting someone while they are down and trying to make a living?

Discussion Introducing V1 of Adelaide SK8, A Skate 3 PC Browser/Phone project with Rundle Mall and Adelaide Airport as maps

Thumbnail

Hey folks of r/Adelaide! I’ve been inspired lately by seeing different map projects for the recent decomp of Skate 3 as well as ports of the game mechanics to other engines such as Rust 2. So! I decided to start work on a new project, using the Rust 2 Skate 3 port, which will be playable independently on your PC, through your browser, or on your iOS/Android device. So I wanted to try and recreate both Rundle Mall and the Adelaide Airport as the project’s initial two maps. Both maps have two modes so far, the closer to life version of each, and then the optimised skate park versions, which add rails and ramps across the map for you to play with.

This is just a WIP atm, and I stress that it’s still a V1 at this stage in terms of full accuracy to both of the locations and their distinct landmarks, as well as the different brand parodies. ATM the landmarks are placed mostly in the right place and are looking pretty decent, APART from the pig on the bin I know he’s missing but trust he will be included upon release. Same goes for the brands and their locations atm. I have most of the brands and logos but currently not ALL of the shopfronts are all placed in the right locations. What I will say, is it’s currently fully playable across the diff platforms and it’s running pretty darn smoothly. It has all of Skate 3’s features including scoring, waypoint setting and spawning, and a map of teleport options, including spawns on roofs and high up locations for some fun. I plan to build on the accuracy of the shops and the design of both Rundle and the Airport, my end goal is to have the arcades fully included and like the Myer Center and other interiors throughout to make it a bit more varied.

Please let me know what you think! And if you’d be interested in a potential release! If people are keen, I’ll be looking into launching these maps and the system on GitHub in the coming weeks! Plz keep in mind that like some of the initial setup will involve some mod fandangling, in terms of like you’ll need to provide your own Skate 3 ISO that has been procured legitimately, and once that setup is done you’ll be able to play normally/without a setup process each launch. Please tell me if you have any ideas of what to add, or if you have any resources that would be of help for this project ie like up-to-date 3D maps n stuff like that. I do have an additional map that I’m still working on, which is a full recreation both outside and in of Z Ward/Glenside/The Adelaide Lunatic Asylum!

If you want to see the project in action, check out the V1 gameplay trailer here! It shows off both maps, the skating mechanics, tricks and some fun currently in build 1!

News First Australian charged under deepfake pornography laws avoids jail

In short:

The first Australian charged under federal laws designed to combat deepfake pornography has been sentenced.

A judge said William Yeates created non-consensual AI-generated sexual material of a teenage girl and shared it online "to humiliate, degrade and harass the victim".

What's next?

He was sentenced to two years and three months behind bars, but has been released on a recognisance release order with the condition he be of good behaviour.

Honestly he should be serving his time in prison to set a precedent that would deter this disgusting behaviour.

News Fines of up to $120k for dumping pet fish in Adelaide river

Thumbnail
abc.net.au
105 Upvotes

Adelaide residents are being urged not to release noxious koi carp or their unwanted goldfish into the River Torrens, following sightings of more than a dozen suspected koi at Hackney, and a smaller number upstream at Dernancourt.

The group of bright orange, black and muti-coloured fish at Hackney appeared last week between the St Peters Weir and Hackney Bridge.

It's illegal to keep koi in South Australia, and those dumping them — or even their pet goldfish — in rivers could be fined up to $120,000.

Nets are being used to try to catch the brightly coloured koi.
