Possibly Popular Many republicans don’t actually believe anything; they just hate democrats

27.1k Upvotes

I am a conservative in almost every way, but whatever has become of the Republican Party is, by no means, conservative. Rather than believe in or be for anything, in almost all of my experiences with Republicans, many have no foundation for their beliefs, no solutions for problems, and their defining political stance is being against the Democrats. I am sure that the Democratic Party is very similar, but I have much more experience with Republicans. They are very happy being “against the Democrats” rather than “being for” literally anything. It is exhausting.

Might not be unpopular universally, but it certainly is where I live.

Edit 20 hours later after work: y’all are wild 😂.

Possibly Popular No, You Can't Be Fat and Healthy. Ever

15.2k Upvotes

The title says it all. There is no such thing as fat and healthy. Can you be chubby and healthy? Sure, but you can't be obese or morbidly obese and healthy. Also, yes, Lizzo is morbidly obese, and Lizzo is not healthy. Exercise isn't a sign of health. Your physical appearance and internal functions are what determines your health. If you are obese, you aren't healthy. Stop telling people it is healthy. I am sick and tired of reading bullshit articles about how being fat is healthy. You can be fat, go ahead. It doesn't bother me, and I won't treat you any differently than a skinny person. But don't pretend being fat is healthy and don't act like you should be accommodated for it. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Edit: I do NOT mean attractiveness when I say physical appearance. I mean how obese or fat you look can give an educated indication of overall health.

Edit: Consider any use of fat in this post with ‘Obese’

Edit: Sick of seeing the sumo wrestler example when Sumo wrestlers lose on average 1/3 of their life expectancy compared to an average healthy Japanese person. Please do research before making a comment.

FINAL EDIT: Hey, guys, I’m getting a lot of notifications and a lot of it is hate messages, so I’m going to stop responding to comments now, but since some people aren’t able to use critical reading skills, I need to specify this: I do not hate fat people and this post isn’t even about fat people. It’s about people promoting unhealthy weight, diet, and sedentary lifestyle as healthy and safe and saying there is nothing wrong with it. You can be fat and you will still be treated fairly by me, but when you spread misinformation about unhealthy weight, that’s when you’ll be called out. Thank you, everybody! Please keep discussions civil.

Possibly Popular Most men do not associate with women they don't find attractive.

7.7k Upvotes

This perspective is coming from someone who has grown up a fat girl all her life. I was emotionally neglected my teen years and went to food for comfort when I had no one stable in my home life. I gained weight and was between 180-200lbs for all of middle and high school. I was chunky and extremely insecure, but I still did my best to make people laugh and was always kind. I had lots of friends, but my best friend was a petite girl and we were together at all times.

I started to notice -especially in high school- that she was treated way better than I was by everyone, but especially men. If we met someone at an event, I was always kind and involved in the conversation, but their bodies were always faced towards my friend and not me, If we got someone's contacts, she was always contacted but I rarely was. She was also a lot of people's crushes, etc. No one was particularly mean to me, but I was ignored a lot and was generally treated poor by men. Senior year I got a job and gained a lot of weight. Suddenly things went from just less attention to being completely ignored. People talking to me just to talk to me diminished and making friends got 10x harder.

Anyway, I just noticed that mostly men tend to ignore women they don't find fuck-able and it's really weird. Girls do it too but they.re not completely blind to their surroundings and tend to generally be nice.

Possibly Popular Legalizing 500k illegal migrants is a perfect way to entice millions more to cross the border and worsen the crisis.

4.1k Upvotes

Kamala Harris has said “do not come”, but the Biden administration just single handedly and unilaterally granted working rights to 500k illegal migrants. The border crisis will explode ten fold after this news, along with the stories of free housing and food for those who enter the country illegally.

This will increase homlesness on our streets and further contribute to the housing crisis- all negatively impacting those who are in the country legally.

Possibly Popular Being childfree is an un-scalable luxury choice that relies on extracting societal value without paying it forward.

The popular narrative frames the decision to not have children as a harmless personal preference or an act of financial responsibility.

While individual economic hurdles like interest rates and housing costs are completely valid on a personal level, this worldview falls apart under macro-level scrutiny.

A major reason people fail to see this is that our education systems do not teach basic societal continuity in a logical, simple way. Most of us go through life taking our modern infrastructure completely for granted. We open the tap, buy groceries, and walk into heated buildings without ever stopping to realize that someone's parents had to take on the grueling, multi-decade sacrifice of raising the young child who grew into the adult ensuring we have clean water to drink, food to eat, and shelter constructed.

When we look at a functioning society, we are not looking at an automated machine. We are looking at the compounding, invisible labor of millions of families.

Furthermore, pointing to the total global population to argue that the world is overpopulated completely misses the mathematical crisis of localized demographic collapse. We do not live under a borderless, one-world government. The current global population growth is heavily concentrated in specific developing regions, while the developed world is facing an unprecedented birth rate crash.

You cannot import an entire society from across the planet overnight to fix a domestic infrastructure failure without triggering total anarchy. If a nation stops producing children, it does not magically get more resources. It gets an inverted demographic pyramid where a massive, elderly, dependent population completely crushes a tiny, shrinking workforce.

Every person alive today is the beneficiary of a massive historical trust fund built by thousands of generations who survived plagues, famines, and world wars. They did not wait for perfect conditions to pass down the baton of life. Enjoying the security, technology, and comforts of modern society while intentionally choosing to let the lineage end means extracting all the value from the generational contract while refusing to sign the next check.

Civilization requires a constant pipeline of new human labor to function. When an individual chooses a childfree life, they are still fully planning to utilize the infrastructure, medical innovations, energy grids, and food supply chains that require a young workforce. They are effectively gambling that other families will bear the intense financial and emotional costs of raising the next generation of workers to take care of them when they grow old.

It is a perfectly valid personal choice if someone lacks the capacity for parenthood. However, a lifestyle that results in total societal collapse the moment everyone adopts it is not an enlightened truth. It is a luxury choice funded entirely by the sacrifices of the people who actually choose to build the future.

Possibly Popular I don't care that Jason Arday killed himself, and the press had a duty to report his lies

For those that don't know, Jason Arday was a Cambridge professor who lied about basically every achievement in his life.

He claimed to be non-verbal until the age of 11, and illiterate until 18. He claimed to run 600 miles in 6 days. He claimed to have provided water to many foreign countries through charity work. He claimed to have completed his PhD with only one hours of supervison, and then had a stroke immediately after so he doesn't remember doing it. Needless to say none of this was true.

What was true is that he was Cambridge's youngest ever black professor. Which would be an incredible achievement if he hadn't lied through his teeth to get it.

It came to light recently that none of his "achievements" were real. Many in the British press wrote articles to investigate and refute these claims. Jason Arday likely killed himself last week after claiming the attention had taken him to his "breaking point".

Many are saying this is a tragedy, but I honestly don't care that hes gone. People like him are manipulative and pray on the goodwill and faifh in humanity of normal to take advantage of them, in this case to the tune of potentially millions of pounds and incredibly important positions of influence.

Jason was a man who got caught trying to hurt people and took the easy way out, like all liars are he was a coward and the world should not mourn him.

Possibly Popular Smoking weed is incredible unattractive

2.0k Upvotes

As a straight man I can still say it goes for both genders. It's similar to an alcoholic. The need to escape reality and chemically change your brain to enjoy things makes you just not desirable as a potential partner.

I don't care about you normal use but it's a red flag for a relationship or a casual entanglement.

Edit: maybe it's time to clarify some things.

  1. If you feel like smoking weed helps you with your disease or illness. Good for you I wish you nothing but the best

  2. I had very bad experiences with roomates who smoked too much and saw how it destroyed their life so I definitely have my biases.

  3. I prefer to have sex with a sober person. Especially when I am not taking anything. It just doesn't feel right to me.

  4. I realized that those girls I dated who smoked weed really put priority into smoking and smoking culture and it always ended badly because I felt trapped with a partner who prioritized smoking weed over activities.it stuck with me.

  5. Professionally I see alot of people in their late twenties to early thirties who develop generalized anxiety disorders and alot of them where heavy users of the devils lettuce.

  6. I'm not American. English is the third language I learned. Also we don't describe benzos nearly as freely and often as American doctors. Also there in my opinion the withdrawal from benzos is just the worst

  7. Rip my inbox. You guys are nasty

Possibly Popular Women really need to shoot their shot with men they're interested in more often

2.5k Upvotes

There are multiple reasons for this. The biggest is probably that women as a whole often complain about general kindness and politeness being mistaken for flirting, and that's because many women rely on "signs" and "hints" to show interest in men.

If women were willing to be direct about their interest in a man, we wouldn't mistake kindness for flirting, because we would know that if they were interested, they'd just talk to us, offer their number, etc.

The second is that men want to feel good too. Being interested in someone and talking to them means you find them attractive, and it's very flattering. Yes, women owe nothing to men, including this ego boost, but it would do wonders for the self-esteem of lots of men if this was less one-sided.

And yes, I know that there are women who do this, before a bunch of people hop in the comments saying "I made the first move on my husband" or "My girlfriend was the one to shoot her shot with me," but let's not kid ourselves and pretend these situations are anything but an extreme outlier.

Possibly Popular In the Red VS Blue button dilemma, red is obviously the right choice.

So there's this new "trolley problem" doing the rounds.

You have 2 buttons.

Press BLUE - if more people press this over the RED, no one dies.

Press RED - if more people press this than BLUE, everyone who pressed blue dies.

If everyone pressed the red button, nothing bad would happen to anyone. The only reason to press blue is to save the other dumbasses that also pressed blue. Pressing blue is completely voluntary, so they put themselves in that situation themselves. Therefor, if you press blue, you are either suicidal, stupid or want to risk your own life to save a bunch of suicidal or stupid people.

This just turns the blue button into an optional group suicide button for those who like to "live dangerously.

Possibly Popular I've Seen More Racism To White People Than Any Other Race

The amount of Racism I've seen directed towards white people is crazy. I've mainly seen it on the Internet but when time when I was in NYC a black lady told her son in front of me and used me as an example as a privileged white person, and that those are the people who don't deserve respect. I insulted the woman and she scoffed, but this seems to be becoming a trend, for example, if you say a racist stereotype about black people like all they eat is fried chicken then you will have people being outraged (as long as you're not clearly joking) but if you say white people don't season their food, then it's fine. I honestly don't care and find the racist jokes funny, but it's just unfair. One of my friends is consistently called a cracker by random black kids at school, and I know if my friend was calling these random black kids the n word it'd be a very different story. For the argument that white people did so much colonization and horrendousness in the past, please shut up, literally every race has done that, just because white people were the best at it, doesn't mean Ganghis Kong doesn't exist.

Edit: I misspelled Genghis Khan, I saw an angry guy in the comments point it out lol.

Possibly Popular Most democrats are ok if not supportive of the 2nd Amendment.

1.6k Upvotes

They just care more about the “well regulated” component than most republicans. I know lots of democrats that own handguns, rifles, and shotguns. I myself am a democrat but I am also an avid clay shooter and purchased my wife a handgun for self defense as she works late nights at a institution that may be targeted for east drug access. I also occasionally hunt for work outings and have encouraged lots of liberal friends to own guns for self defense.

The big issue I believe is that most democrats (myself included) feel like no one is actually trying to solve the problems with hun violence. School shootings are obviously the biggest and most politicized of all of these and so when no republican politicians is willing to offer productive solutions it feels like increasing hun control is our only way to TRY to solve the problem.

I think for one we should be criminally punishing parents of school shooters for allowing a mentally deranged child access to fire arms. They are their responsibility (both the kid and the gun) and their negligence resulted in deaths. I guess I’d compare it to handing your 16y/o kid a bottle of Jack Daniels and the keys to your car and saying have fun, I trust you. If they chose to drink and drive and crash through a group of kindergartners that’s partially on you for not keeping your kid in line.

Possibly Popular Lindsay Clancy is clearly lying about her psychosis

Obviously someone who kills their children is mentally ill but i just cant get over how nobody is talking about her description of psychosis which makes absolutely no sense.

People on psychosis dont just "hear a voice" that tells them to do bad. The psychosis doesn't start and ends with the crime and people on psychosis definitely dont ask for a lawyer when they realize their suicide attempt went wrong. They are in a completely different world, one of delusion, grandiosity and paranoia, all edged with hallucinations and extremely disorganized thinking.

It is the same old story as school shooters, murderers and other retards trying for the insanity plea have said: a voice told them to do bad. (Sometimes the devil or some demon, love that little detail the voice gotta be the bad one after all).

Anyway i dont care about the politics of her trial just the fact that she is lying about her state of mind during the murders and nobody seems to call her out on her blatant bullshit story.

I don’t fucking care about her mental illness or psychosis. Throw her in prison for life. There’s no excuse for murder. It’s ridiculous that this even has to be debated. Even in a psychosis, you’re still responsible for your actions. She’s a psychopathic bitch who deserves no empathy. RIP to her children and if you defend her you need help.

Possibly Popular The left has been disproportionately more violent than the right lately

Let’s see, let’s see.

In the last five years the left has been the clear driver of political violence in America. Organized networks on the “progressive” side turned street protests into sustained campaigns of arson, assault, and intimidation that outright dwarfs anything coming from the right. Who burns down cities, streets, who assaults and loot stores in the name of peaceful protesting? The answer has already been said. The left seems to be the product of terror lately.

Over George Floyd (they only terrorized cities over him because a white man presumably killed him, which fits their anti-white stance. They coincidentally ignore black on black murders and black abortion, both statistically higher in fatalities than “police brutality”.)

Now over Palestine. A country in which would go against everything the left politically stands for. Yet their current freedoms allow them to criticize and protest our current government. Conservatives are the left’s only villain solely because we live with each other. They are beyond obvious.

An Islamic state wouldn’t allow your protesting, they wouldn’t allow your feminist or human right ideals, yet these people happily hold up their flags. Go tell Hamas to stop deliberately stationing their military operations in the middle of populated civilian cities before you side with them.

Hamas has you fooled, by doing this, they’ve effectively gave Israel a bad global image.

But I don’t want to go off track. The left has been violent recently, not just in America, but also in France.

It seems Antifa (“anti fascist”), which by the way, would be completely annihilated under any actual fascist government, seems to be more of a international terror group than anything else.

Of course, the far left will not acknowledge this, they will try to attack the right instead.

Possibly Popular If Superman was a real person, Reddit would absolutely cancel his ass

If Superman actually existed and logged onto this godforsaken app, many redditors would permaban him in five minutes flat.

Think about it. The guy literally stands for "truth, justice, and the American way." He actually respects the law and doesn't want to burn down the entire system. To the terminally online basement dwellers here, that makes him a "bootlicker" and a "fascist." He isn't trying to seize the means of production, he just wants to stop bad guys and save people. But because he isn't a radical marxist, Reddit would call him a privileged white guy and tell him to touch grass.

And honestly, the absolute brain-rot on this site is unmatched. My favorite example is watching the ultra-progressive, pro-Palestine crowd on here lose their minds. You guys love to cosplay as socialists and scream about human rights, while literally cheering for groups that would throw you off a roof for your social views. It’s hilarious. You’re on your $1200 iPhone stanning for a regime where women have zero rights, but sure, you’re the peak of modern progressivism.

The hypocrisy is physically painful. If a literal superhero isn't "progressive" enough because he doesn't support your specific flavor of internet communism, your entire worldview is broken.

Log off, go outside, and maybe read a book that wasn't a Twitter thread.

Possibly Popular Praising a woman for an abortion because she did ‘what’s best for herself’ is like praising a dad for leaving his kids because he did ‘what’s best for himself’.

Society celebrates women committing abortion but has demonised men leaving as ‘men are evil’ or deadbeats.

To put it into layman’s terms:

It would be like praising a father for murdering his child because he “did what was best for himself".

Because that's what women committing abortion are doing.

Possibly Popular Pit Bulls should be banned, period.

I love dogs. I myself own a Beagle and two mixed-breed dogs.

According to statistics from DogsBite.org, from 2005 to 2019, there were a total of 521 fatal dog attacks in the United States. Among these, 346 incidents were caused by Pit Bulls, accounting for 66.4% of total fatal cases.

Pit Bulls make up only about 6% to 6.5% of the total dog population in the U.S.

Ranking second is the Rottweiler, which was responsible for approximately 9% of the fatal attacks.

There are other posts on Reddit about banning Pit Bulls. But the comments under those posts are almost always the same: "It’s the owner's fault," "Owners need to take responsibility," or "The owner just didn't know how to raise the dog."

What I’m trying to say is that every single dog breed has owners who know what they're doing and owners who don't. If it were truly just about the owners, the attack rates should logically be pretty much the same across all breeds. But the fact is, the number of Pit Bull attacks is disproportionately high. This has gone way past the point where people can just use 'bad ownership' as an excuse to brush it under the rug.

Chihuahuas are also highly aggressive, but you can’t even compare the severity of their bites to Pit Bulls. If you observe how dogs behave, most of them will snap and immediately release.

But Pit Bulls? Once they bite, they do not let go. This 'bite-and-hold' mechanism is a biological behavior literally hardwired into their genes.

Many Pit Bull owners will say, "No way, my Pit Bull is so sweet and gentle." But let me tell you this: there are countless cases where owners said the exact same thing. Their dogs had been perfectly well-behaved for five, eight, or even ten years. But then, out of nowhere, that one tragic day comes when the dog snaps and mauls a baby, a child, or a family member to death.

My main point here is simply to warn Pit Bull owners: if you have children in your home, you need to be extremely careful. I really hope anyone reading this post will pass this warning along to your friends or family members who own a Pit Bull. Please, just tell them to keep a very close eye on them.

Communism led to the deaths of over 100m people in the 20th century but these knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers will say that being poor in America in 2023 is somehow worse than the Holodomor.

Possibly Popular Body cams have backfired for the “ACAB” crowd

1.1k Upvotes

Now are some cops bad? Absolutely.

However, I’ve noticed ever since the ACAB crowd demanded body cam footage for every cop it’s lowkey backfired a little bit.

I’ve seen a couple incidents where the cop is in the wrong, but Jesus Christ, most of the time these people act like completely fucking idiots or assault cops or don’t obey simple orders.

The shit they deal with is insane. These people act like children. 95% of the time the use of “excessive force” is necessary.

People assaulting the cops, etc.

Just my honest thoughts from seeing these body cam videos.

Possibly Popular Rape is an awful, horrendous crime but it's not as bad as murder and as a survivor I am tired of the internet pretending otherwise.

It's a very popular sentiment online that rape is the worst thing you can do to someone. But as a survivor of sexual assault that I was hospitalized over I just can not be lead to believe what happened to me is worse than being killed. This attitude and belief trivializes the LIVES of victims. If I had been killed instead then I wouldn't be here to write this post.

People online will argue that rape is categorically worse because there's never a justification for doing it. Whereas, there are cases where killing someone else is reasonable or at least comprehensible. However, the vast majority of killings are a total loss of someone's personhood. A cessation of existence. The total collapse of someone's internal world, autonomy, or chance to experience anything else in life.

Its been ten years since what happened to me. I was traumatized for a while but at least life has gone on for me. At this point I'm pretty well past what happened. My life wasn't totally ruined. Ive done great things in the last decade. I got a research paper published. Ive traveled internationally. Ive gotten three degrees. I've made new social connections. I am a part of a community. I volunteer. I've sold my artwork. Who knows what is going to come my way next!

Rape is a heinous crime, I'm not diminishing the significance of it. But at least I survived and thrived past it. I'm not going to allow something bad happening to me ten years ago to define my entire future. But if I had been murdered, my whole story would have been written for me by someone else.

Possibly Popular I find the Cornell 7 story to be quite unbelievable, there I said it

I know this is quite a shocking thing to say nowadays, and the zeitgeist is to scrutinize and assign blame to wealthy or privileged people. They call it punching up... but come on!

I have grown up around some real sketch balls. Growing up in the hood, you will see all sorts of shit. Trust me, the misogyny you hear about on reddit is nothing like how maladjusted dudes treat women. Even then, the woman is 99.99% of the time consenting to it due to the nature of how hood dudes behave.

The type of people I have seen get in trouble for rape and sexual misconduct are largely either:

  • mentally disabled (literally having an IQ of 50-70)
  • have some sort of deviant behaviors that are super obvious way before they get charged for this
  • literal children
  • abuse victims (these are the people that hide it the best and appear normal)

Even the sleaziest of people would draw the line at rape, much less raping a girl with 6 of their homies (seriously ?!)

You mean to tell me these well adjusted, privileged students who had the discipline to study and get into Cornell, likely had both parents, and no criminal history have suddenly developed an appetite for gang rape?

Like nobody out of 7 dudes said "I feel uncomfortable"? This just seems off, like it's way too depraved to even include 2 people you trust in this sort of extreme criminal activity, much less 6.

The other alternative is simply that she consented. Shocking I know

Edit: yeah as more screenshots come out definitely not rape
Edit2: Now that the evidence has surfaced, do you all think the death threats were justified 😭

Possibly Popular False accusations are not that rare, and the low conviction rate is not due to the legal system condoning rape and ignoring the victim.

Maybe 20% are legitimate. The other 80% fall into these categories:

I broke up with my boyfriend/fiance/husband yesterday. He did something a year ago I didn't like. I want him arrested today. I also need this report ASAP because my child support hearing is coming up.

Someone touched me 10 years ago. I have no idea where they are now or what to do about it. My therapist told me I should tell the police.

I met a guy on Tinder last week. We went to dinner and I got really drunk. We had sex. My boyfriend said I was raped. Please help me because I really love my boyfriend. I also think I might be pregnant.

I'm being stalked by a girl I I used to work with. She's sending me inappropriate text messages for the past 6 months. I've been sending dick pics back to her because i felt bad. My wife found them and this is harassment.

My cousin who is a LEO says "when I get a good, legitimate case, I take it to the house and go all the way. Last one I had just got sentenced to 83 years in prison. It was a lot of work but absolutely worth it. However, these cases are very rare."

By the way, this is what a LEO has told me from his first hand account. Most of it is just nonsense and people making really poor life decisions and then expecting us to pick up all the pieces for them.

I remember reading this comment on reddit a while back:

I took a law class on specifically this subject... Well sex related issues, but this was obviously one of them.

The issue is simple: it's a game of he-said-she-said. It's a momentously difficult thing to prove... So you have that. But on the flip side, tons and tons of cases are quietly dropped. Not just because they lack sufficient evidence to convince a jury, but the story starts going sideways.

After quite a few high profile huge fuckups of "not believing the victim", it's generally no longer acceptable to accuse a woman of lying. So once the story starts falling apart and becomes clear it's not real, the justice system will simple let the case slip away. They don't file it under "False rape accusation", but it just becomes another "failed to bring to trial" statistic.

Then we have the social claims of rape that never make it to court. This is where the bulk of them exist. Most never leave social circles... When a chick gets drunk and hooks up with that hot guy at a party, and everyone knows, so she preemptively quietly claims rape because she knows her BF will find out -- well those go unreported too.

Honestly I don't know even a general "real figure". It's just too messy to know

EDIT: Check this article out as well: https://archive.li/Ns35n

Possibly Popular Americans are significantly more tolerant to foreigners/immigrants than any other country’s populous.

1.8k Upvotes

I’ve been to a bunch of countries and went to the less touristy areas of those countries and I was clearly not from there and everyone would look at me like I was a clown and clearly talk about me, and I’ve even had people literally take a video of me (I’m white and was in a non-white country).

In the US, if a foreigner were to go to the suburbs or less touristy town or whatever, they would never be harassed, looked at weird, or outcasted. In fact, no one would even look twice at them. The demographics of the US are so diverse that it’s honestly impossible to tell who’s a citizen and who’s not.
