News in question: https://www.theborneopost.com/2026/05/20/sarawak-to-set-up-space-agency-targets-first-nanosatellite-launch-by-2030/
As you might have read this past day, the Premier has announced the establishment of Sarawak Space Agency (SSA) in the near future.
I speak as a genuine nerd when it comes to the history of aerospace development when I say this should not be the prerogative of the Sarawak State Government.
On principle: If we truly believe in the federal model of Malaysia, the activity of aerospace development and space exploration must be done at the national/federal level. Space exploration must be a national, combined, shared collaboration where all 13 states should come together to contribute brains and material as a joint venture that benefits all Malaysians.
On risk management: The risk of failure is concentrated within Sarawak. Remember in 2009 when Malaysia sent RazakSat to space, costed RM150 million, and the satellite failed within a year with thousands of satellite photos deemed unusable? Imagine if a similar incident happens under SSA? The perceived responsibility for failure will fall solely onto SSA and the Sarawak Government. Another is the risk of doing international deals on our own as the Norway Missile deal and Tesla cancelling expansion in Malaysia has showed. If the Sarawak Government entered a deal with a private company to provide materials with millions on the line and the deal falls through, Sarawakians will feel the financial loss a lot closer to their hearts. A failed rocket launch would be a Sarawakian failure, subject to Peninsular ridicule. But a successful rocket launch would be a Sarawakian success, and
Peninsulars will question Sarawak's role in the federation.
Again, I LOVE SPACE AND ROCKETS. But there are other ways for Sarawak to lead in regional aerospace development without the massive risk management.
I cannot see why the government can't just create a programme for top Sarawakian graduates in engineering and aerospace send them to Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) sebab it already exists! Or even help set up MYSA branch in Sarawak and launch pad and staff it with qualified Sarawakians? Itu yang paling basic.
Please share your thoughts!
I believe none of these hard questions are being asked because few care enough to think of it. The Sarawak Gov has more money than they know what to do with it.

[Build Advice] RTX 5060 Ti 16GB vs 5070 12GB for FYP (Video AI Training) & Creative Work?
Hi everyone,
I'm a university student planning a new PC build primarily for my Final Year Project (FYP).
My Workload:
FYP Primary: Local AI/ML training on video datasets (extracting frames, preprocessing, and training sequence/temporal models frame-by-frame in PyTorch/CUDA).
Secondary / Creative: 3D Blender modeling/rendering, Premiere/DaVinci 4K editing, Photoshop, music production (DAWs + VST plugins).
Leisure: 1440p gaming.
Budget & Setup:
Budget: RM 5,000 – RM 7,500 (Flexible if there's a strong reason)
Tower only (already have a 1440p monitor, keyboard, mouse, and audio interface).
Sourcing: Will buy locally
Questions I Need Help With:
Because this is for an academic FYP with deadlines, avoiding Out-Of-Memory (OOM) crashes on video batch sizes is critical.
Is the extra 4GB VRAM (16GB total) on the 5060 Ti the clear practical winner, or is the raw compute speed of the 5070 worth having only 12GB?
Video DataLoader pipelines unpack huge uncompressed frame batches into system RAM before pushing to GPU, plus DAW virtual instrument libraries eat memory. Should I start straight with 64GB (2x32GB)?
Between dual-booting Linux/Windows, raw dataset archives, unpacked frame directories, checkpoints, and a few games, is 2TB practically a minimum?
Looking for a sweet-spot CPU (Ryzen vs Intel) with strong single-core speed (for gaming/DAW latency) and enough multi-threading for video exports and batch preprocessing, paired with a reliable Gold-rated PSU.
Would love to hear from anyone running ML locally or local PC builders.

Edit: I don't mind buying a used pc, so if you're planning to get rid of your old one please feel free to pitch in your price and the specs as well
Hello, I have no knowledge of building a pc, and have always been using gaming laptops. Recently my laptop broke and instead of getting a new laptop I was recommended to build my own pc. I was wondering where I could start, I'm currently residing in Kuching, my budget for a pc alone is probably around 3k to 3.5k can anyone help me out?
I'd like to note, the main thing I'll be using the pc for is to play fps games, thank you!

Hello fellow Sarawakians!
I’ve started a "Living Thread" over at r/BorneoTech to track the state of business and technology across the region. Since Sarawak is currently leading in energy infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives Borneo, I want to make sure our local perspective is well-represented.
I’d love to hear from those of you on the ground in Kuching, Miri, Sibu or Bintulu:
Check out the current snapshot here and add your thoughts: State of Tech & Business in Borneo

Hi, I'm posting this for sharing for those are curious seeing some towers that are empty or like everywhere all around the Pan-Borneo highway.
Those towers are belonged to our state owned GLC, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation. and served 2 purpose, Serving MySRBN which is SDEC's home grown FWA (fixed wireless access) for rural areas and serving other telcos on a single tower aka MOCN (Multi-operator core network) there will be 4 telcos riding it which is CelcomDigi, Maxis, Umobile, YTL. (still WIP, but Umobile will become the first servicing for these towers, however take it with a grain of salt)
The equipment for these sites are all Huawei, from their cabinet, baseband units, radios and antenna, microwave, routers and even CCTV, don't wanna taking y'all time me explaining very technical types of sites but I can share some what are they using.
For backhaul, SDEC is using TM as their fiber provider, but sometimes will use Sacofa, as for sites with no LOS (line of sight) for microwave backhaul, or no nearest fiber, they will use Reach 10 as their VSAT provider.
Most sites using grid power, and some sites using solar and genset. and all of their sites have 24hr CCTV with facial detection. and all of it being monitored at CENTEXS Center at Santubong.
If any questions bout this post, feel free to comment, Sankyu

The mobile network situation in Sarawak is a joke, and I’m honestly at my wit’s end with it. We’re stuck with barely functional 4G coverage, and let’s be honest here it’s not even real 4G most of the time. You pay for mobile data, but good luck getting anything done with speeds so slow, it feels like we’re stuck in the 90s. Downloading a file or streaming a video? Forget about it. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve sat there, staring at a buffering wheel, waiting for a video to load or a page to refresh. And don’t even get me started on hotspots. Trying to use your phone as a hotspot? That’s like playing Russian roulette with your productivity. One minute, everything’s fine, and the next, your internet vanishes into thin air.
The irony is that these telcos Celcom, Digi, Maxis are all pushing to upgrade to 5G, but have you seen the state of their 4G? They can’t even maintain decent 4G coverage across Sarawak, and yet they want to rush into 5G. How does that even make sense? I can’t even get a consistent signal in most parts of the state, and yet they’re talking about 5G like it’s some magical solution. The fact that they’re already looking ahead to 5G while 4G barely functions is just laughable. Fix what we’ve got first before trying to sell us another dream.
Heavy rain or bad weather? That’s the ultimate test to see how fragile these networks really are. The moment the sky darkens, it’s game over. No calls go through, no data loads, and forget about even using your mobile hotspot. It’s clear these networks are not prepared for anything that isn’t perfect weather. All we’re left with is unreliable service that barely functions on a good day, and then they want to throw 5G into the mix? It’s a slap in the face.
At this point, it’s hard to understand why we’re still paying for this crap. If we’re being honest, these telcos are failing us, and instead of focusing on giving us the service we pay for, they’re more concerned with upgrading to 5G that most of us won’t even be able to use properly. Get your act together first. Fix the basics then we’ll talk about 5G.

I was driving in KL and I found it a hassle tapping TnG card to enter and exit the malls' parking.
So I'm just writing this to thank the team who developed the car plate OCR technology that Kuching malls are using for their parking entry and exit system. I find this system superior than the parking system in KL. I think Sarawak can potentially make more money by selling this car plate OCR technology there.
Edit: OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It's the technology that scans your car plate number.

Hi, I'm F,
will be graduating by the year 2026, degree in Software Engineering. The job market for fresh graduates software engineer in sarawak, is like unsettling, non-existent.
During my study, i got Biasiswa Pinjaman Kerajaan Negeri Sarawak, and it got bond which state: AFTER GRADUATING I MUST WORK IN SARAWAK FOR ATLEAST 5 YEARS. I searched LinkedIn, Jobstreet, myfuturejob and etc, every week, every month, every year ever since i got that scholarship/loan. No signs of it.
In semenanjung got so many opportunities with mnc that offer rm3500-rm4000 for fresh grad software engineer and i heard degree fresh grad in sarawak got paid only rm2300-rm2500. I feel lost whenever i think about the bond.
What should i do? Should i just break the bond and pay rm30400 back? Or should i not break the bond so that I'll just pay rm7600?

I made a sizeable part of Sarawak available offline in ATAK (Android Tactical Assault Kit) without satellite imagery (to save space). I'm panning to make a 5km - 10m map of the same area next or 8km because 1km is too close. Suggestions and questions welcome.

AI governance is a system of rules, policies, and practices that ensures the development and use of artificial intelligence is responsible, ethical, and safe. For Sarawak, a diverse and rapidly developing state in Malaysia, AI governance must balance economic growth with local cultural values and traditions.
So, Does Sarawak have AI Governance?

Currently i use Maxis Home Wife 138 on paper it say unlimited but everytime after heavy game update the internet connect is every slow until it noted as "no internet access".
Is there any other home wife plan suitble for me? Can recommend?

Anyone can help me find out where to dispose bloated power bank in Kuching? Since it’s quite dangerous to just throw it in the rubbish bin so I wanted to find a proper place to throw it but I am not sure where it will be accepted.
