Serious Answers Only Clean inside an oil radiator

Thumbnail

My landlord gave me this plug in radiator to keep warm, but there is an unpleasant, sweet smell that comes from it when switched on.

I have wiped the outside with anti bacterial liquid, but I can't clean inside. I have wiped inside the top vents, which hasn't made any difference.

LL says the smell is dust and will "burn off" with use. Is this correct?

The smell is permeating my home and I want to be warm.

DIY Stain Removal

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi guys I am panicking big time lol.

How do I get this stain out of this fabric? I think the fabric is suede? I made the unfortunate mistake of trying to use water and an Astonish Stain Bar which only worsened the pre-existing stain into what you see here.
This armchair does not belong to me so I am in a bit of an unfortunate situation. I am really hoping there is some sort of solution to this.
Anything would be helpful!!! Thank you😭

[Solved] Space heater/fake fireplace

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello folks. Hoping to get some identification and assistance with this dumb space heater

A little bit ago the switch stopped clicking. It feels like whatever lever the outer switch moves broke or bent. Leaving me unable to turn it on. I opened it up hoping to put in a fix but am left unable to remove the switch casing

So I'm hoping someone in here is familiar with them and can either tell me how to get it off or tell me what it's called so I can look it up

Serious Answers Only Friend drove through a “dusty” area of the highway, construction was going on. I’m assuming they were cutting the road or pouring concrete because she’s got this material on parts of the car. A car wash got a lot off but how to get rid of the rest?

As the title says, she was driving down the highway and there was construction going on. The air was dusty and when she got home she saw all of this material under the car. Nothing on the absolute bottom it’s mainly on the edges of the body and tires. She went through a car wash once and it got a good chunk of it out but there’s some remaining. She wants to hit it with a hose but I’m wondering what the best way to clean the remainder is. I’m assuming it’s like concrete dust or something in the air.

How to get my websites in front of the people they can help?

I’ve built a few websites that I hope will help people make better financial decisions when buying or owning a home.

They’re mostly informational tools and calculators that help people run the numbers and figure things out for themselves.

I made privacy a big priority. There’s no accounts, no lead generation, and the calculators don’t save any of the information people enter.

I didn’t build these sites to make money. I just wanted to make some useful tools that people could use without having to give up their contact information or end up getting calls from salespeople.

If they eventually get enough traffic, I may run a few ads just to help cover the costs of keeping everything running and free to use.

The problem I’m running into is actually getting the websites in front of the people who might find them helpful.

I’ve tried mentioning them on Reddit when I see people asking questions that my calculators could help answer. But almost every time my comments or posts get removed, and I’ve even been banned from a couple communities for self promotion.

I get why those rules exist. I’m sure moderators deal with a ton of spam and people just trying to sell something. It’s just frustrating when you’re genuinely trying to share something that might help someone.
I’ve already set up Google Search Console and I’m working on getting the sites found through Google, but I know that takes time.

I really don’t want to spend money advertising them either, since I’m not trying to make money off of them.

Has anyone else built free websites, calculators, or other resources and had any luck getting people to actually find and use them?
Are there any good places to share things like this where it would be welcomed instead of considered self promotion?

I’m not trying to spam my links everywhere. I just want to figure out how to get these tools to the people who could actually use them.
I’d appreciate any advice or ideas.

Light fittings - can anyone help please?!

Thumbnail

Hello - I hope this post is acceptable here/this is the right place for it.

Bought a house a few years ago, the light fittings in our bathroom have gone one by one, with me being lazy and waiting till the last one went before looking to see what sort of bulb I needed to buy... and ... well, I'm stumped. The transparent glass thing in one picture screws out, leaving nothing that looks at all like a bulb or a light of any kind. Has anyone seen this before? Where do I start trying to replace or fix?

EDIT - thanks to the first three people who replied. Solved!

So this is a bolt for the skid plate under the Honda civic. Looks like the bolt is through the metal piece that was originally attached to the metal skid plate. I tried vice grip and turning but no success. Is the best option to break it? If so how?

Serious Answers Only How to change the lightbulb in this light fixture?

Thumbnail

We bought this house 3 years ago and this light was burnt out when we moved in, maybe once a year I try to see if I can get into this light fixture to change the bulb. I have not yet been successful…

The home was built in 1973 and I believe this fixture is original to the home.

I have tried unscrewing it - doesn’t seem like it has any kind of threads on the bottom part of the glass though. It just spins and spins.

I’ve also tried sliding it as far as I can in every direction to see if there’s more give one way to where it will pop out. It’s sitting loosely in the base, so there’s some give to slide it - maybe 1cm total from side to side.

I’m not sure if it was intended to be accessible from the “base” part somehow. It was painted over when we bought the house.

Please let me know if you have any ideas!

Thank you!

Radiator help - noise and heat

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’m unable to post a video here for some reason, but my radiator is making a ridiculous amount of noise. The steam coming out is causing it. I have my radiator knob turned fully off because otherwise it’s about 95°. However, it’s still about 80° in here. My question is, is there anything I can do to make it less hot and also why is there’s so much steam coming out and it’s so noisy? It wasn’t like this in previous years and I’ve lived here for a while.

[Solved] Can I safely cut this RGB strip?

Thumbnail

We're currently assembling this, and we've noticed that the LED light strip is significantly longer than what's shown in the instructions. However, the instructions don't mention trimming it and there are no marked cutting points on the strip to indicate where it would be safe to cut. Is it safe to assume we can trim it to the appropriate length, or would doing so potentially damage the strip?

How to cut up my dads train set cleanly?

Post image
687 Upvotes

When my dad was dying we decided to do one last project together. So we built a small train set. He designed each part of it with a grandkid of his in mind. One loves horses so he put in mini horses. One loved westerns so he put in a little gun battle. We spent months on it. We loved doing model building together. Rc planes, trains, model planes etc etc. now that he’s dead I want to share it with my siblings and their kids. No one is interested in keeping it intact. I want to cut it into pieces and make a diorama of different sections and give it to the sections that are about each grandkid to them in a nice wood box they can see any time they want. Any suggestions on how to cut it cleanly without distorting it? Think 8x12 sections.

How to remove this picture from the glass

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I have looked at previous posts similar to this and the consensus seemed to be to go to photoshop requests, but I wanted to ask anyway just in case.

This is a high-res digital painting done by somebody on photo paper but whoever put it in the frame used double-sided tape on the back, and there is something sticky on the front that has already caused a small rip.

Is there any Safeway to remove this from the glass? My thought was to submerge in room temperature water for a bit and try to slowly separate. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows who this artist is, that would be cool.

Serious Answers Only How to clean out grime from the inside of shoes

Throwaway because Im too embarrassed to have this on main.

I have a pair of platform mary janes that I wear to work. I wore just the shoes without any kind of socks or hosery for like, a year, and my shoes smell BAD. I recently found stockings that work like socks, but everytime I take my shoes off they still stink and there is a layer of grime adhered to the bottom of my socks on the heal and ball of my foot.

Does anyone have any advice to clean these? I cant pull the sole of the shoe out.

How can I fix this discolored patch on my jacket?

Thumbnail

Hi guys,

I recently bought this jacket from Stradivarius. It has a waxed effect finish with dark green and olive tones that change depending on the lighting.

After washing it, I noticed that one are became noticeably lighter, as if I had lost some of its color or finish. The care instructions say it’s machine washable at 30 degrees, which I had did.

I wanted to restore it, but I’m not sure how to do it without damaging the fabric further.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Is there any way to restore the original color or waxed effect?

Thanks in advance!!
